Thanks to Mark I have learned it’s ok to rep forgiving clubs and …. chippers. Recently moved on from some older Pings to the Stealth HD irons and matching HD driver, fairway and hybrid. Also the hybrid and fairway are almost the same lofts as I learned here has helped as using them for different situations/same yardage. With teen twins and a 5 year old it’s hard to get out and play let alone practice but when I do I like the help. Also those Cleveland smart soles come in handy. Thanks for keeping it real, Mark.

That's so good to hear! this game is more than hard enough, we don't need to make it any harder by losing forgiveness

Ive heard the wedge groove story a lot. If i play twice a week, I might hit perhaps 40 wedge shots, some full, but mostly touch shots. Should I play 40 weeks then that's around 1600 shots, but only say 200 that might affect the grooves. At that rate I'd be looking at perhaps 8 years before the grooves would be a reason to change and that's only if 1 in 8 of my wedge shots are hit hard. I've had my current 54/14 wedge for three years and a fortnight ago a fitter took a look at it and said the wedge grooves were just fine.

Id love to change my whole bag though would rather go new. My current setup, unfitted, Cleveland Ti460 driver, Cleveland Hi-bore fairway, Cleveland CG Tour 3i-PW irons, 56/60 CG10 wedges. Is fitted/gapping beneficial for parttime golfer?

I’m no pro or fitter, but I’ve played golf for 20 years (I’m 49), now off a 6HC, been as low as 2. I would 100% suggest you go for a fitting, gapping, grip session. Find the right shaft, clubs, lie angle and grip size that suits you can save you a lot of shots, not to mention grief and misery on the course! I recently replaced every single club in my bag (not all at once 💸) and I could not be happier! (Happiness and confidence is hard to measure, but certanly affects your game)

If you want to get the most out of your game, and budget allows, then fittings and gappings will always help. However, I know this can be expensive, so if you're a part-time golfer looking to go out there and have some fun without spending the earth, I wouldn't say it's a necessity, I'd be more thinking about sense checking the clubs I do carry and whether there are any glaring gaps in my distances or any clubs that crossover and could potentially be replaced by something more useful.

Is putter really just about shape only? I’ve read a bunch of stuff on face balance vs toe hang, stroke path arc vs straight,… I just moved from toe hang to face balanced because of every aspect except shape. I just want the stupid ball to drop in the freaking hole!!!
@GolfShopOnline

Don't we all 😂 You can dive into this, there are features such as toe hang and neck design that fit different stroke types that are definitely worth a look at if you're unsure or want the best of the best. However, the tendencies that these encourage can also be overwritten by the stroke/technique that we deliver in our putts. Although certain head shapes suit different strokes etc, you can generally get most head shapes tailored to a particular stroke type/face balance, which is why sometimes if you've lost confidence or fancy a change in putter, a change in look and head shape is definitely something to consider

Can you not get the grooves on wedges “resharpened”? Might be cheaper than new clubs.
@GolfShopOnline
@GolfShopOnline 3 ай бұрын
You can resharpen grooves and this could help. If you're playing competitively just be careful with this as there are regulations on grooves so sharpening can make them non-conforming

True but really at a club level no one stands on first tee and checks the grooves on each individual players clubs.

…let’s be honest: people change their Golf equipment to have the latest and greatest! They enjoy to spend their money on nice things! …and it is okay that way - everybody can decide that for himself! …the good news is „there are some tools out there which can help you to enjoy the game more!“ …can be the latest and greatest but it might not!

Generally i thinkbyou should buy new clubs when you can afford it and you want to. There's not much more to it usually, it's nice to have new things so treat yourself if you want to. But don't expect any changes in your golf.

Absolutely, sometimes a change is as good as anything and everyone loves new shiny clubs

I've gone back 30 years. I dug out my old blades and took them to the range. Each club is 30gm heavier. I swing better and the ball goes as far but a lot straighter. Modern light cavity backs cause looseness in the swing and the light head can be deflected off line easier. The world has been drowned in BS and uber hype about modern clubs.
