Profoundly Pointless

Жыл бұрын

Deep Sea Explorer Dr. Alan Jamieson has been on nearly 70 expeditions to the deepest parts of the ocean. He explains what happens when something goes wrong inside a deep sea submarine like the OceanGate Titan submersible that went missing near the wreck of the Titanic. What happens when you can't use your eyes to see what's wrong? What's it like descending in silence for four hours?
#profoundlypointless #exploresomethingnew
Profoundly Pointless is a podcast created by Nick VinZant. Each episode explores something new with a unique guest from a different side of life. @@profoundlypointless Idk if it was on THIS video, but it was stated the deepest part of Marianas Trench is a mile lower than Mt Everest is tall. It dwarfs the grand canyon. Anyone who doesn't grasps the concept of just how deep it is, hasn't been to anywhere significant that shows just how small we are. My flight from US to Scotland was about 36k feet. The approximate depth of the Marianas trench. Deeper than the normal commercial plane is high.

No. The technology behind these vessels is insanely safe. So much so that there has not been one accident in more than 60 years of submersible exploration. At least, _"had not"_ until someone by the name of Stockton Rush rolled on to the scene to arrogantly and foolishly claim to customers that, for an astronomical fee, they could place their trust in his little tested and dubious technological experiment (the Titan) to "safely" take them to the bottom of the ocean and gawp at a shipwreck that was the consequence of another arrogant and foolish claim: the "unsinkable" Titanic.

Any submersible he's talking about is likely actually rated and tested for the job it's doing. He very well could be talking about a trip on the DSV Limiting Factor, whose hull is actually rated and has been tested to go any depth on earth. It's dangerous but not what I would call insane personally speaking. I like to ride motorcycles though so there's that lol.

@-kattya- Hello! Oddly, I had never been a true crime fan until American politics became absurd and Covid arrived. Then, for some reason, I found the tragedies fascinating and oddly comforting. I quickly found favorite creators and seems they are almost all Brit, Scotch, or Irish. Let’s see: That Chapter, Dark Curiosities, Little Shop of Crime, Coffeehouse Crime, Brief Case, Crime Reel, Irish Coffee Crime-and I’m certain I’ve forgotten some. The accents, yes (or do I have an accent cause American English is not as old?) but the crafting of story, respect for the victims, inserting appropriate and needed dark humor PLUS the brogue or lilt. I found myself: “oh, nice! I can curl up and relax on a Friday night as Mike from That Chapter regales me with the tale of a family annihilator outside Ottawa, Canada! Perfect!” Anyway, sorry to ramble, but nice to connect. Where in the world are you? 🙏🏽✌🏽❤️ from Minnesota

My question is this, what the sam hell was Oceangate doing operating an un-certified submersible as a tourist attraction in the first place, that's just pure insanity, it just beggars belief, I mean, he had no public safety implemented, no public liability, etc, he left himself wide-open to being sued , the waivers he got the tourists to sign legally meant nothing and he was still liable for being sued anyway.

But if you are "100%" sure of your equipment YOU AREN'T open to the possibility of failure! Be real - Have high confidence IF YOU actually know your equipment (i.e. aren't relying other other people knowledge - because then you are trusting people - NOT equipment design). But NEVER say you have 100% confidence because then people KNOW you are either lying OR that you don't know what you are talking about.
