The South Korean team was determined to give it their all on the pitch. For every opponent South Korea was a team to be afraid of. I love watching Italy and Spain lose but South Korea had no business making it that far in this tournament. Definitely a lot of shady business going on and that one ref had such a punchable face .

Yes, this is completely true but what happened is that in the next World Cups, Italy won in 2006 Spain won in 2010 Germany won in 2014 However, South Korea never won the World Cup nor is it close to ever winning again.

@@Daniel-tg6oi South Korea gets eliminated in the group stages and rarely goes pass Round of 16. South Korea was humiliated by Brazil 4-1. Yes, Italy has a high chance of going into the World Cup because the next world cup will be bigger with 48 teams. Let's wait and see.

Yes, true I hope Philippines will also consider football not only basketball. Since Philippines didn’t participate/is not participating in this FIFA World Cup, am cheering, supporting for the countries that represent Asia like Korea Republic, Japan including Australia and of course Netherlands where I’m residing now for many years … Korea Republic and Japan really did their best and really played very well until in the round-16. Great! 👍

The only game I will agree is the Spain game: South Korea was thoroughly outplayed that game and if football were fair, Korea should have been ousted there. Italy though is BS. They screwed up their own chances and missed some sitters where they have no one to blame but themselves. Also they never really dominated Korea in the run of play. I would honestly say Portugal has a bigger case for complaint than the ridiculous Italians.

2002 and 2022 were the dirtiest world cups in memory. South Korea(2002) and Argentina ( 2022) got carried by referees but at least 2002 not many people died building the stadiums and no foul play either when awarding. Qatar 2022 should of had never happened, guess the same will happen in 2034 ( Saudi Arabia humans rights is like Qatar, don’t exist) Fifa loves dirty money

Fun fact: before the italy match, the korean manager Gus Hiddink called the Korean fanclub organizer and told him to get the crowd crazy whenever the ref whistled in favor of italy. He wanted them to scare the ref, because he really wanted to make use of their homefield advantage. And their crowd WAS legendary crazy. Pretty sad that so many Mediterranean countries feel robbed by the ref, completely ignoring their faults and the overall atmosphere. Homefield advantage is real, even without paying off refs.

The fuck????? Did u watch those games? USA???? Are you fucking kidding me???? Korea dominated that match and the US were lucky even to get a single point. Even the US press at the time were saying it was the Koreans that would rue the tie result. Portugal red cards are absolutely deserved: they did it to themselves getting down to 9 men with their vicious backtackles and touching up the ref. As for Italy, Ive said enough of those crybabies in which for vast portions of that match, they were the ones getting outplayed and getting pushed back. As for Spain.....I will happily concede to the Spainiards: they deserved to move on and Korea got homecooking there.

В игре Кореи и Испании,испанцам два чистых гола не засчитали.Турция могла обыграть Корейцев с крупным счётом ,поведя в счёте с разницей в два мяча расслабились и позволили настырным корейцам сократить счёт. По игре было видно, что Турция значительно превосходит Корею в классе.

Here's my personal take on the alleged referee bribing. Portugal even lost to the US, meaning that the Portugese squad's defeat wasn't surprising. Furthermore, Beto and Pinto's send-off were justifiable. I mean, how can backtackling followed by ankle twisting and hitting referee not be a serious foul play? As for Italy, it was really hard-fought match, as both charged one another very aggressively. Just as many Italians suffered, Korean players had to endure several serious assaults, including Kim Tar-Young's broken nose. Totti's simulation is certainly controversial. But a slow-motion video does indicate that Totti was indeed falling even before actually contacting Song Jong-guk, who touched the ball before the alleged contact btw. As for whether it was a yellow-card material, I do actually think that it was bit harsh. But given that the world cup was held right after FIFA's emphasis on deterring players from diving, I would say Totti was really unlucky. As a fan of Totti, it is a shame his world cup in 2002 had ended in that way. At least, he grabbed 6 assists in the next world cup and won the tournament, so hopefully he's pretty chill about the past one. As for Spain, yup. You guys should've won 2:0 and advanced to the semi. I don't know what happened back then.

한국인으로서 Totti 가 퇴장을 받는거는 정당하다고 생각해 왜냐하면 이탈리아의 팔꿈치 반칙으로 이미 한명의 코뼈가 부러졌고 후반전에도 반칙은 이어졌어. 그러다가 Totti가 선을 한번 넘은거라고 생각해. 그리고 스페인과의 4강전 솔직히 주심은 문제 없다고 생각하고 부심에 살짝 문제가 있다고 생각은 해 그래도 한국이 잘 버텨서 승부차기까지 갔고 거기서 승리했어. 한국이 뇌물을 줬다는 얘기는 아마 거짓일거야. 한국은 97년에 역사적인 경제 위기를 겪었어 그때 생긴 빚으로 자살한 사람도 상당히 많아. 결과적으로 복구 했지만 뇌물을 줄정도는 아니였어.

@@Lomaz300 Italy being robbed is absolutely ridiculous and they didnt even dominate Korea in the run of play....in fact for vast portions of the match, it was the italians that were on their backheels not to mention missing some absolute sitters like the 1 v 1 with Lee Woon Jae that Vieri had. Italy is just being a little bitch. Spain I will happily concede and say they were better and deserved to go through as Spain dominated 95% of that match and at no point did I think Korea was better than Spain or on even terms with them: hell we played Spain better in 1994 than in 2002 and 2002 was a much better squad.

Yeah they wrote history of being the most unfair team that ever played a World Cup. Corrupted referees helped them get through in the K.O. stages until the semifinal. They would have already been out against Italy if it wasn't for that blind referee not giving them a penalty and allowing a wrong disallowed goal.

Even tho the World Cup 21 years ago was rigged for South Korea, I'm surprised they did not downplay Germany unlike they did to Spain, Portugal and Italy and let Germany wins the match. Some of the disallowed goals are actually counted but the referee declares it offside and some fouls are too light to be considered as red card. The Americans were lucky that 1) the refs weren’t too hard on us the way they were Italy and Spain. But also, the triumph of South Korea was also americas. If not for that win against Portugal we don’t get to the round of 8 against Germany, nor do we get the “dos a cero” game against Mexico! It’s unfortunate for American soccer fans this World Cup was in Asia, because we didn’t really get to watch any of these games !

@@totorachmadi0 There were no problems with the match against Portugal. See highlights. And the reason for Italy's defeat was that they missed a lot of chances. Even Nesta commented in 2006 that the defeat was blamed on Italy, but that the referee's problems were highlighted and they escaped criticism. Spain is the only team that should feel unfair.

I dare to say Korea did not birbe the refs. Back in 2002, Korea's economy successfully recovered from financial crisis but was still just in the process of growing, and I just don't think Korea had enough spare money to go around bribing refs just for few soccer games. Also, as a person who watched the full games, Portugal's red cards were legit. Backtackling and running into a player without a ball were definitely red card fouls. With only 9 players on the field, Portugal just lost to South Korea. As for Italy, if you have watched the full game, you will know this game was a very agressive game. Just as Italian players suffered, it went the same with Korean players. The game was more like UFC fight than soccer game, elbowing each other, killer tackles, pushing and grabbing uniforms... Lee Chun Soo taekwondo kicked back of Maldini's head, and Vieri elbowed and broke Kim Tae Young's nose. More red cards should have been given to a lot of players, so I wouldn't say it was biased to one side. I know that it is unfortunate for Italians to see their amazing squad with great players losing to Asian country, but Italy just missed too many good opportunites to complain.
