No cellphones, just vibes. 2000 was a defining year for The Greatest Duo. Coming off an NCAA National Championship and looking to secure another, it was sophomore, Sue Bird’s, job to make sure incoming freshman, Diana Taurasi, “had a good time.”
You can be certain they had that and so much more. (The story of when Sue meet Dee for the first time is too funny 😂). Lucky for us all the chemistry was instant, and both hoopers were ready for the next step in their basketball careers: the WNBA.
In this 8-episode series presented by Nike and TOGETHXR, we highlight four pivotal years in the greatest duo’s journey: 1996, 2000, 2016 and 2020, through the lens of Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi.

Connecticut Girl here. I have followed Sue and Dee since their time at UConn. Amazing players and even more special is their beautiful friendship and love and respect they have for one another. Congrats Sue on your well deserved WNBA retirement. I am sure we all will be shedding tears when Dee announces it's her time to join you.

I Love thier friendship, and the great respect they have for each other as both basketball players and personal friends. Years ago, I met my best friend as she listened to the beach boys at a playground we hung around at, when we were teens, as I was belting out I love the dead by Alice Cooper. Total opposites, yet very much alike in many ways. It's now been almost 50 years since we became friends, and our love and respect for each other, and each others families, especially our respective children, has become a sisterhood. We are still on opposite ends of the court on many issues, but that's what makes our friendship so special. These two ladies remind me so much of the two of us. I am still the maniac, and my best friend is the level headed sensible one. But it works. All I can say is that it's been a pleasure watching these two amazing athletes over the years, and what has always stood out with them is the deep respect and continuous support, they have and will always have for each other both on and off the court. I wish Sue the best and thank her for the many years of a lot of blood sweat and tears, and for what they have BOTH done, and continue to do for today's women's basketball, which is now finally taken more seriously. In fact, it's hard to get seats these days for some games because a lot of games get sold out so fast. They are both such unique, talented, amazing athletes who have paved the way for today's young women in women's basketball. Thank God!!!! I Thank you both ladies!!!!❤ Two of the very best!!!!!

I just went to their last playoff game. That woman is 41 and straight taking players half her age to SCHOOL! The Storm game plan was to give her the ball every break. The Mystic's game plan was to double team her. And that didn't stop her from getting 10 assists, more like 20 because she was setting shit up all game, and nearly 20 points.

Sue and Dee have made their mark in NCAA and WNBA history. I won’t take that from them. But both players have lost my respect for handling the social issues around player pay and Caitlin Clark. I am moving on to more positive players. Sue Dee I love you guys but you got used by politics. Woke was trendy and a safe bet for a long time. But as ambassadors to the game you have to look to keeping everyone “in the game” not just the radical crowd.
