"Someone who drowns in 7 feet of water is just as dead as someone who drowns in 20 feet of water. Stop comparing traumas, stop belittling yours or anyone else’s traumas just because it wasn’t 'as bad' as someone else’s. This isn’t a competition. We all deserve support & recovery." ~caseyyrose

absolutely respect the intention and the spirit of what is being said but, isn't it also true that assuming help does exist or.. help comes from the outside.. isn't it easier to save the person who is in 7 feet of water? Like, its just that the person who is in less deep in to water has a higher chance of recovery..

@@harsharoy8535 It is true that it is easier to save a 7ft person. But let me put it like this, Robin Williams was in no need for money, friends, talent, fame, family. You can say he was 7ft problem. But no one found him on time and he drowned. A lot of times 7ft problems will be disregarded for bigger problems or waved off because "it is not that bad".

I needed this today. I've been bottling up my grief...my dad died at the end of this month 8 years ago. Because it's that time of year it's been on my mind so much and I feel so down. Im desperate to tell my partner how I'm feeling but I just can't get the words out. I feel like he won't understand as he hasn't lost anyone that close to him. Ive been bottling it up so much that when I went to visit my mum today I burst out into tears. I don't understand how the words can be on the tip of my tongue but won't come out. I've tried dropping hints about why I feel sad but he's not picking up on them. Im pregnant and it's hurting me so much that my dad will never meet his grandson. Maximum suffering is always maximum to the person feeling it, and relative only to the persons own experiences. Breaking your favourite toy can bring your pain to the max as a child, a heart brake as a teenager, and the death of a family member as an adult. Pain is pain is pain, but it’s never really compareable with the pain of other people feel.

Sadness isn't a competition but also no one is obligated halt their own life to support you, no one should be your free therapist especially if they're not trained to be. I've had a friend unload negativity on me for a year, phone calls and whining almost every day and it started to affect me negatively but I felt guilty for not being "supportive", I finally just had to be honest with them and told them to get professional help. If you can't swim, don't be a lifeguard, no matter how many feet someone is drowning.

This reminds me of a verse from the Quran, ‘God does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. [2:286]’ (approximate English translation). Everyone has troubles- in our eyes somebody else’s troubles may be more or less than our own- but based on their capacity- they are struggling the same as we are. Not to say that undermines anyone’s struggling- but rather it makes you appreciate an individuals strength. Let’s do what we can to be understanding and tolerant of eachother.
