In Matthew 4, Satan comes to tempt Jesus. The tactics he uses exposes three common ways that Satan tries to tempt us as well: the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. Each time that Jesus was tempted, He responded with Scripture as his “weapon”. In today’s study, Pastor Gary explains who Satan is, what temptation is, and how we can withstand temptation. Since all of us experience various temptations, today’s study is an important reminder to strengthen us in our faith.

For most of my life up to a point, I always said “Oh, I could NEVER do that!” Guess what? I became a raging alcoholic for 10 years. I lost a lot but 5 years ago I gave it up overnight. God heard my cry and had miraculous mercy on me. Please don’t be prideful in your temptation.

The most powerful thing I read in this verse is how the devil offered to Jesus the kingdoms of the earth. The devil can’t give what he doesn’t have. So this means he has them. It is very meaningful and powerful picture of reality.
