“We just did all of that for a quarter” 😂 so accurate. *when you pour from a closed can, you can make it stick to your palm if you keep the air out of the concave bottom, creating a suction. You can slowly open the can, while holding it with suction alone. I don’t know anything about the actual physics though. It’s a hard trick One of the easiest bar trick is pouring multiple drinks at once, from a chain of boston shakers. You can line up 7 shots (in the rare instances you have 7 different drinks for one party *but you shouldn’t disrupt the flow of making ~other people’s drinks for party tricks), then pour the 7 drinks at once. Flipping bottles has always been tricky. Bottles are all different sizes and shapes, also the amount of fluid in those bottles affects how it flies in the air- even IF you can get comfortable flipping a standard 750 ml bottle (ie. Titos bottles are super standard shaped, but there is a lot of bottle diversity in standard shaped bottles too: Greygoose has a standard shape, but is very different in shape),, regardless, the amount of fluid inside the bottle will affect how it flies tremendously. Fluid inside the bottle ~should follow the Law of Conservation of Momentum,, meaning flipping it shouldn’t cause so much spilling… and yet, spilling is almost a guarantee. An easier trick is catching the bottle by the neck, without flipping it. You can catch it by tossing it between both hands, dropping it between both hands, tossing it into the same hand - alternating the orientation of your hand (which is a cool trick AND very useful for efficiency). Having a comfortable pour position is nice, and tossing the bottle helps achieve that in a flashy/ quick way. Spinning bitters bottles in mid-air sometimes unscrews the top while you toss it, allowing you to unscrew it quicker and make it flashy. Usually it doesn’t unscrew for me, but I do it to keep myself entertained while making drinks. Crafting cocktails is often repetitive and boring. Flashy and safe tricks keep things fun and engaging, and save time. Free pouring (if you have your count down, *I try to check my count at least once a shift), ditto. Even though it gets repetitive and boring, that doesn’t mean I don’t want the most complicated cocktails… It’s not entertaining to do Bloody Mary’s, at all- they look cool, but taste ~fine, and suck to make. Espresso martinis, lemondrops, cosmos,, they’re fun cocktails usually, and I don’t mind making them (until you’ve made 20 in one shift, then it’s TOO repetitive). And that’s the main idea: bartending isn’t “boring” because it lacks complexity, but boring, usually out of over-repetition. Example: you want a whiskey sour!? That would seem cool and challenging,, if I hadn’t made a few hundred already, and don’t really find them challenging to execute // for the amount of pride I take into that cocktail (if it was a cocktail I wanted more experience making, then I’d be a little more excited too).
