History at The OK Corral

History at The OK Corral

Күн бұрын

On the bleeding edge of the Kansas frontier, beginning in the year 1871, locals have been going missing. Person after person has inexplicably disappeared while traveling the dangerous territory between towns. Many blame the disappearances on the local Osage tribe, while many other blame the local bandits who terrorize the area.
But when Colonel Alexander York goes looking for his missing brother in the spring of 1873, he will stumble upon the real reason that so many locals have gone missing, or turned up dead. When he first meets the eccentric Bender family, who own and operate a small general store and hotel known as “The Wayside Inn” just outside of Osage Township, Kansas, he finds them to be quite an odd lot.
But, soon, the real truth of the horrible crimes that this family has committed will come to light…and the West will never be the same again.

My favorite teacher, Mr Venon Listor, taught Texas history. He taught all the chapters in our text book orally and in the first person, "Back in 1843, Austin and I was riding along the Brazos..." No kid ever failed Mr. Listor's class. I learned to love history from him. I also love this channel!

One of my favorite middle school history teachers was Mr. Graves who claimed was descended from Big Mary Donner of the Donner Party and I always thought she musta eaten the most meat that winter. jejeje Funny thing was Mr. Grave was tall and heavy like a Neanderthal. Seriously.

There are similarities between this tale and that of the Fishers from Charleston SC. Ran an inn, used a charming lady to find out if they had valuables or if anyone would miss them, killed and robbed them. It wasn't unheard of that time.

I have a branch of my ancestors that we're there in Osage township, Labette county during the bender years. About all that has been orally handed down is that the men of this family participated in the posse that went looking for the benders after they fled. But I have been reading and watching online for many years and I must say that your treatment of this is among the very best I've seen. Minor details vary in the various accounts I've read but I have definitely learned new things in your video!

I have lived in Labette County Kansas my whole life. I'm now 62 My Dad told me the story of the Benders when I was a small child. His dad and his dad's brothers were on the planet at the time. He said it was a place you needed to stay clear of . So the locals new something was not wright with the Benders. But,where did they go?

A fictional TV show called "The Librarians" had an episode called the dark house. As it turned out the magical house was discovered by a family of psychopaths called the Bloody Benders who disappeared from Kansas in the 1800's. Who knew there was any truth to the Benders? Thanks for a good story!

The posse (or more likely a smaller group since the story never came out) must have tracked them and put them down. There’s no way a group that odd and famous go the rest of their lives without being caught or at least seen. My original thought had been “ must have been a truly slippery bunch to have all literally escaped capture let alone notice for the rest of their lives.” But then I realized there was much a simpler explanation (my first paragraph).

Been on their tale for a while. When they disappeared it is my conclusion they moved to Spainish southern California. A large number of Benders show up there in later years. Many became prominent. I have a friend who is a Bender. He is from San Diego. His family has many successful members.

There have been several TV episodes based on them as well as movies. The movie "BENDER" is not a very good movie though, as far as being factual. The Rob Zombie "House of a 100 Corpses" is loosely based on them
