Dil Se music is by far the all time best of Rahman. As revealed by Mani Ratnam, the secret of Rahman's magic lies in his inclination towards Sufism. At the same time, Rahman's understanding of science and technology of music is fantastic. The unification of Sufism modern technology works wonders.A great revelation. Thanks for this lovely episode.

1999, the year AR won the best music Filmfare award for Dil Se, the other nominees in the same category were Bade miyaan chhote miyaan, soldier and kuch kuch hota hai.,.. Look at the sound and texture of Dil se and you'll know this man is a different breed... Hindi filmdom had no idea what they had been hit by...

Dil se music.... O my god. It was totally undiscribable to illustrate about its quality. I was a big fan of him after listening Roja film. His tune is totally unique comparing than any other composer. That is the real music to be identifyed clearly due to unoqueness and quality as well.

I was in 5th Class at that time typ[ical delhi ki middle lower middle class family. And I used to give my pocket money (1 rupees) to my friend because he could sing "malyali part of jia jale" and I was crazy about that sound... And for Dil se re that is also my caller tune for decade I used to create that atmospheric pad soundscape from my voice like.. humming by standing behind "Air cooler" that time it sounds superb with cooler motor fan voice and voice echo... Ideally Dil se is the TimeLess and Pure for me .

Understand very well that this whole series is to highlight the genius of ARR but I think most would welcome if O2 decides to spin off another series where we just let Maniratnam talk about anything and people would listen. There is a good reason why he is deemed one of the best storytellers

Dil Se aka Uyire is one of the very few albums which sound beautiful in both Hindi and Tamil. The music tingles a roller coaster of emotions in your brain, leaves your hair standing and heart wanting for more - Dil Se.

Dil se sound mix sufism vestern beat but every listener listen realise sound very different.. Because many qawwali release many movies.. But dil se tune outstanding.. Gulzar lyrics. His word imagination is another planet.. Rahman composing and gulzar word mix create another milestone..

I was disappointed with this video, whatever Mani said about ARR could be applied for any movie, you brought the name Dil se and never went into the details of how each song was composed, what can we know extra as listeners from your video? Nothing from this. But you have got Mani with you. Please give some content which we don't have access yet. I was so looking forward to the stories behind each song

Seems like you have missed the album Iruvar by Ar Rahman and Mani ratnam. Although it was not remade/dubbed in Hindi, the telugu version has great songs and BGM

Although this was primarily a Hindi movie, the dubbed version in Tamil and original songs created a fanbase for shahrukh khan down south.

Reading comments about how the covers are not as good as the originals… I mean yea that is true I guess, but I believe that’s beside the point. Of course these kids aren’t going to reproduce Rahman’s genius and Sridhar’s sound. But isn’t it remarkable how he has inspired entire generations of musicians? I mean if that isn’t a true testament to his legacy then I don’t know what is. And surely no one here has heard every cover version before, it is a great way to introduce new talent. Pretty sure Rahman wouldn’t have a problem with this approach to showcasing his work. As mani ratnam says, let us be fans of the man as much as his music, and appreciate how far reaching his music has been. 30 years and two whole generations!

Commendable effort by the makers to cover his career up to date. Just one request, please maintain the essence of his compositions by playing the original tracks rather than these covers. Its like sacrilege! No offence to the hardwork of the people making the covers, but when they are trying to cover Rahman they could stick to the originals.

Disappointed with this episode. I wished to hear more about how each songs were born. My fav album, containing my fav song.. i believe it’s the same for many others. This could have had more specific questions.
