This is difficult for me to say as a Scot but Sam Underhill has a perfect tackle technique. Low, hard, in with the shoulder, wraps the arms and drives the legs. Not something you see that often anymore but still is and will always be the most effective defensive tackle

@@coolstorybro2703 Kieran Read is an awesome player but he has hardly associated with physical dominance when you think of number 8s. My comment is not intended as a disrespect to Read is perhaps the most athletic and skillful of bunch. But when I think of physical brutality you think Billy Vunipola and Duane Vermeulen. My comment still stands as you know standing and catching a high ball is one of the most vulnerable situation you can put yourself on a rugby field. Don’t think you can equate it on par with the running collisions of a tackle situation.
@jeankoster7620

Vermeulen ... he is such a beast. Probably one of the nicest guys in Rugby but put a ball in his hands and give him just a bit of space to gain momentum, nothing will put that machine straight down or move him backwards. Such a tremendous force, loved him in the World Cup - watch the Vermeulen highlights world cup final, the English just had no answer. I think they paid someone to injure his foot before the BIL tour ...

I read in an article once that they don't allow Etzebeth to do too much strength training, because then he becomes too heavy with muscle according to his fitness coaches. Meaning, then he has too much bulk to be mobile enough for their particular strategies in rugby matches. Which means, the guy can probably be a whole lot stronger and destructive than he already is. As a 19 year old, they already had to design special dumbells for him in the gym, as the dumbells were too small and light for him. So I am wondering how big and strong of a monster he could have been, if he was allowed to push his strength training to his full potential.
@oldoddjobs
@oldoddjobs 2 жыл бұрын
All rugby players could be much stronger if they didn't have to run for 80 minutes. Would any of them come close to Olympic lifters or pro strongman competitors? Probably not

@facepalm486 actually I have. But thanks for your cognitively deficient statement. I have seen many people in my country lift the heaviest dumbells in the gym. Most of the gyms here have dumbells around a max of 120 pounds. Which is not that heavy. The more strongman orientated gyms have 140 pound dumbells, but then also have adjustable ones that exceed that.

Easy to say but hard to do in the heat of battle. If you want to go for a big hit and put a marker down the only way you're going to do hit is hitting at chest/stomach height - I think that's what most of them were trying to do here. Sure they could chop them at the ankles but they'd lose a few meters that way.
