When there’s nothing but static, replace the antenna cable on your Jeep TJ

Radio reception has gone from great to terrible, unless you hold the antenna cable inside the glove box “just right.” Time to replace that cable, which is a pretty simple and inexpensive thing to do. This video shows how to do it on my 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ.

Tools:
• Thin blade screwdriver
• Philips screwdriver
• 10mm wrench to remove antenna mast

I wonder how similar it is to a 2011 Wrangler. I'm having reception issues also. If I smack the dash, the reception will come back.

Pulling the glove box out of my 2011 JKU, at the very highest level it looks to be the same. But the antenna cable on the JK looks really buried and I think there’s a lot more disassembly to it than the simple TJ. Maybe try finding the cable behind the glove box and wiggling it around to see if it changes your reception before you jump to replacing it? Maybe clean the threads/mounting hole of the antenna?
