Probably about responsibility. If it was a typo then it isn't the announcer's fault, and therefore says "china" to be safe. If they say "japan" and gets it wrong it's going to be their fault.

Little Rookie it’s actually the name of the character in my profile “Kujo Jotaro”. It’s actually Japanese. Japanese has 3 different scripts: Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. Hiragana is the most common and you can write any Japanese word with it. Katakana is read exactly the same as Hiragana but it’s for loan words and Kanji is the complex script adopted from China, it’s used for nouns, last names, place names and even a lot of verbs. In Japan people use these three systems together to create diversity in the text and make it easier to read I guess, even though it’s actually possible to just write everything in Hiragana which is the basic alphabet(somewhat like Korea does with its own). My profile name is written entirely in Kanji so it’s a fair assessment from your part to assume it’s Chinese because technically it is. Kanji are the thousands of characters borrowed from China and you will see it used for the purposes that I stated above, usually more so in Formal speech.
