@origindirewolf While that is true, it doesn't mean that people with less talent can't be musicians imho. A lot of popular music, especially in the west, is really quite simple and doesn't require all that much skill to beginn with. In a way it's an art in itself, to be an extremely skilled musician but still create music that people at large enjoy. For an example look at modern Jazz, virtuose metal players, etc.

Looks like an Ibanez Artcore. I got one of the first and it's a long scale, I believe the current ones are all medium scale but I might be wrong. If it is an Artcore, the fretboard isn't quite as wide as the Precision one, so that could help your son.

@@joycastle. Agreed, I think it's an Ibanez AGB200 Semi-hollow in Natural. I was super exited when I saw the thumbnail, thought it was an old Les Paul bass at first glance.

@@the_virtual_sandwich Yeah, I think the Artcore are only guitars, at least now - pretty sure that when I bought my semi bass it was still called Artcore, but they probably changed the name to AGB when they went from long scale to medium scale. Or my memory betrays me which definitely is a possibility. Anyway, Ibanez. Semiacoustic. That should get you there 😁

The reason most bassists prefer to keep a finger on one of the pickups is so they can do what’s called a rest stroke on the string. Adam Neely has a video discussing the shift in mindset a guitarist should have when switching to bass and he covers this. It’s a small detail and neither style is wrong but it’s more common for the often less melodic style of bass playing.

There is nothing wrong, it depends on what kind of sound you want to produce. That position (those who told u do it wrong) is an easier position for most people to focus on one string and mute the other strings.

Yes it kind of does but the Ibanez has an arched top and this bass appears to have a completely flat top, which is exactly what I like about it :-)
