'When They See Us' Star Jharrel Jerome Fights Back Tears In Powerful Emmy Speech

4 жыл бұрынJharrel Jerome brought the house down with his acceptance speech at the 2019 Emmy Awards. The 21-year-old won Outstanding Lead Actor for a Limited Series for his powerful portrayal of Korey Wise in Ava DuVernay's "When They See Us." Amy Adams, Mahershala Ali and Sterling K. Brown were among the audience members who gave him an emotional standing ovation as he accepted the award. Onstage, Jharrel choked up while thanking his "beautiful mother," saying, "I couldn't do it without her."

Excellent Actor & Awesome Win!!! BTW... It's great they announced he's a graduate of LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts when he went up to accept his award, but he's also an Ivy League graduate from a prestigious university. Let's give this king all the accolades he has earned & deserves...!!! ... 👍 👏 💗

@ : I've always known blk are incarcerated for something they didn't do. It happens all of the time. He handled his portrayal of his trauma very well. It teaches perseverance, encouragement to all of innocent ppl.

I couldn't get the courage to see the movie because it would make me very sad but I was happy to see that Jharrel Jerome win Best Actor but NOT happy that it was When They See Us ONLY win. Ava should have gotten something

I'm so glad the exonerated five got a chance to go to the Emmys. I would have loved for them to have had a chance to go up on stage and receive a standing ovation for allowing their story to be told so well. We get it. You did not appreciate the content or the narrative. It doesn't change the facts that they were wrongly convicted and you are a bystander.

@@jneezypv They were NOT wrongly convicted--their sentences were merely "vacated"--which means they were entitled to a new trial. There is no question they were at the scene of the crime at some point and ADMITTED it. The lack of DNA only means they didn't leave ejaculate at the scene.
