Little tip for brown sugar: take a small piece of bread and put it inside whatever container you are using. It keep the brown sugar from getting hard :)

I like to decant my beans and rice because otherwise it gets to be a mess with half bags stored everywhere. I started decanting my spices and got only halfway through it. I also like to decant pecans and almonds because they can get a plastic-y taste if left in the bag and stay fresh longer if I put them in nice glass jars. New sub here and I love your channel!

Definately agree with you about measuring the standard pack sizes to plan the right bins for decanting! I hate decanting and finding out the pack doesn't fit in the bin and I end up wasting more space essentially storing it twice in the bin and the leftovers still in the original pack

I've watched a bunch of decanting videos, specifically looking for answer to the question: what do you do if not all the product will fit in the bin? THANK YOU for addressing this point with your Backstock method, you were the first video I've found that fully addressed that point

I didn’t even think of decanting pasta!!! I’m always using half a box here, half a box there! Love this! I need to get some nicer containers for taller items! I use mason jars for my dry baking goods!

Wonderful tips on the process of preparing to buy containers. I don’t think I would have considered all the simple, yet very important things to do before I purchased the storage containers! Great idea to put the card holder pockets on for directions & expiration dates.

Your pantry is my pantry organization goals. Geez. We did much of this and are in the process of trying again. Maybe this time it will stay clean and fresh looking instead of like the front hall closet on a tv comedy that comes crashing around whoever opens the door hoping for a bag of crisps.thank you for the video this is great and super helpful.

I have decanted my pantry items years ago (mostly baking items and pasta) and I am looking to get rid of the old Tupperware stuff for more airtight see-through containers. I've been using masking tape for instructions or BB dates, but I never thought of using clear business card pockets! My pantry doesn't look as neat as yours, but it's a work-in-process. I use small canning jars (250ml) for my spices that I use often. It's nicer for me to get a measuring spoon in there. I haven't read very many good reviews on the OXO pop lids containers (mostly how the lid comes off while it's suctioned in place), but I am thinking of maybe clamp glass jars, Drylock Tritan, or Rubbermaid Brilliance. TY

I love this video!! I'm 55 years old and decided I was sick of kitchen clutter. I spent $500 in oxo and Rubbermaid brilliance containers. I never knew the word decanting until I saw it on this video 😃😃. Let me tell you I have done the freezer the pantry the refrigerator and even my baker's rack. If I had known how awesome it is doing this, especially living in a small 840 sqft condo, I would have invested in this years ago. Where did you get those labels.

Reasons I like decanting dry goods besides the aesthetic: . Keeps critters/pests out (it’s gross to talk about but living in an apartment even if you are a clean person - your neighbors might not be and old buildings are prone to these unwanted visitors . Great if you have ADHD and forget about things if you can’t actually see them . Makes it easier to know when to buy more of something (I often will have an empty box and be unaware until I go to grab for that item)

my personal preference, Decant items - all items which have to be used regularly and do not finish in a single use. Like for example, spices, cereal, rice, lentils, flour. Non decant items- 1)items which I already have in containers, and if I have an extra pack of that, I will wait for opening the packaging until the container one is over. Simply for the reason that, it's better off in a sealed packaging. 2)Small snack packets, which will be over whenever they are opened.

The pasta makes sense but I was like -- how do you know how much you use? I typically make a pound at a time so do you then have to weigh it to use it so you're using the right amount?

The containers are airtight, so that helps to keep it fresh!

Search amazon for a brown sugar bear. It’s made of clay. You soak it and put in the brown sugar container. I haven’t had any issues since I started using it.

OXO also has a terracotta disk that you soak and it attaches to the underside of the lids to keep it fresh too!

I do not see decanting spices as practical. I want to know the due date of a spice. I would never add new spice to old spice. I keep my extensive spice collection on spinning turntables in the cabinet next to my range/oven. Definitely not in the pantry. Spices need to be near the stove. Bins by category are most practical.
