A short reminder on when to use 4wd now that the winter is here. Are you driving in 4wd on tarmac?

I went on a 4x4 1 day course last week and instructor gave exactly the same advice. I had no idea about transmission wind-up etc. Excellent that you've put together the video as I'm sure many other new Jimny owners mays not be aware..

I bought a 2017 jimny silly salesman told me to put it in 4x4 dry road, went round roundabout and it came to a halt it wound up .

I just want to start by saying great video and you put out some quality content. Due to yourself and a couple other content creators, I’ve recently decided to give this automotive content creation a go - with my old blue JB43 taking centre stage. Its difficult to advise. Make content that you think people will search for, whenever you think "how to I do that..." then thats a subject to create

Nice, I bought the two switches in the hope the wiring was present and I could have added my own heat pads but was thwarted by lack of plugs. also, I don't have the luxury of a Car version anywhere near me so I cant even look to see what I need to make@@bigjimny

It is a 4wd.. a centre diff means you have an all wheel drive car. 4wd is for off road.. take that landrover to a proper off road and say goodbye to all that plastic under neath

The wheels on a car rotate at different speeds as it goes around corners. The differentials on the axles allow this under normal conditions. In a Jimny that is in 4wd the axles are connected together front and back but there is no differential in the middle. This means that when the front and rear axles want to rotate at different speeds as you go around a corner, they cannot. There is play in the system due to bearing backlash etc and this absorbs a small amount of this difference until it becomes too much (ie. winds up) at which point the tension has to be release either by a wheel slipping or by something breaking.
