I can actually relate to this. I want to be a doctor or just in the field of medicine, like I really want to be a cardiologist. But my mother and family didn't want me to become one. Since it not just about the financial capability, but as much as possible they want me to graduate already and have a job. (Basic Filipino life where it's so family-oriented that you basically need to help your family to your utmost capability or somehow I can say maybe they treat you as a retirement plan). They also say it take too much time to study... they even suggested me to take a 2-year vocational course so I can get a job already. At the end, I didn't pursue Medicine as I didn't take the 2-year vocational course. But I'm studying Architecture now, because actually I don't know to myself as well lmao.

This is my mother's reaction when I want to become a doctor when I was applying for college. So apparently after years of telling me I should be a doctor, my mom now wants me to be a software developer. So yeah...

This was actually happened to me when I was deciding the major I would like to take. My parents argument was that I wasn't pursuing to become a doctor seriously. Unlike others, I was about to choose medical major because of "well why not?" in about 1 week while the others had already a mindset to become a doctor long time ago. So, it was assumed that I was not serious on that. Well, honestly I didn't have a preference on career at that time because I feel that I can perform in wide range of profession. So the medical major program was quickly striped out from the list, leaving computer science, architecture, and fiscal major. In the end, I took the fiscal major. I didn't have any prior knowledge on what that is about at that time. I am already graduated and become a tax consultant in 1st tier consulting firm. Now, I am currently pursuing higher education on law and accounting major, both at the same time while working.

This is actually hilarious because I'm Filipina and when I told my mom I wanted to be a nurse, she told me I should rethink my options, build up a portfolio and consider an art school (I was also passionate in drawing then). She's a nurse so she said she knows it isn't easy to be a nurse and wanted me to choose something I loved but I was adamant for the stability nursing would give me and my love of helping others. Fast forward and I ended up changing majors anyways 😂😂 Mom also told me I shouldn't ever study to be a doctor either cuz ill have "no life and be in school forever " too 😂😂😂
