I'm a Pens fan, so this pains me to say it. Ovechkin is the greatest goal scorer in NHL history, having said that calling the left circle "Ovi's office" perpetuates the narrative of him being a one-trick pony. He is a dynamic goal scorer, and has many highlight reel goals, and if no one is going to take away that option for Ovechkin, why not exploit it, as annoying as it can be when it happens on the power play.

Anyone who thinks Ovie is a one trick pony probably only started watching him recently. All they have to do is go back and watch some old clips and see just what an all around force he was. In every regard, not just goal scoring.

Everyone judges Ovi by his big one timer but he’s so much more talented than that. Just look at his highlight reels. Geez he’s got an 88 mph wrist shot! He’s placing that shot with that kind of speed anywhere he wants. Goalies always looked confused after he scores on them. I used to be a huge Ovi hater until I started studying him. My criticism still is that he shuts down and disengages, stands around flat footed. Probably due to age and hidden injuries. He’s still the greatest modern day goal scorer.

NHL Superstars consistently have a 2/3 - 1/3 Assist to Goal ratio. Ovechkin does not; In fact, it's not even close. He is a great goal scorer, but he is not a Superstar.

No offensive to Ovi but the best goalscorer of all time is Pavel Datsyuk. Numbers point of view, he still is not. Gretz is the best. Not until he breaks the record can you say it.
