I speak Cantonese and Mandarin just enough to save my skin during family gatherings, but I have friends and family who due to growing up overseas either speak either just one of them or none at all. It is hilarious when I curse at my cousins or buddies in a casual tone that they can't even understand the context of what I just said to them, their utter confusion on their faces can only be bought otherwise.

I totally relate to this, but with French and English; I'm british and I speak fluent french but somehow when I hear actual french people talk french my brain goes empty. Then when they change to english the accent makes it even harder to understand than when they were speaking in french 😢 (I know french people who speak english with a really good accent, this is just the situation I encounter when they don't speak english very well)
