Fun fact: The reason why so many stores offer great discounts with the rewards cards is because they then sell your information to third party companies for big $$. This is why they want you to sign up for the rewards card. While you get a great discount, you're also getting hundreds of spam emails, phone calls, texts, etc. I mean it can be a win win if you're using a stolen identity or a fake one, but to each their own.

Te shop manager threatened to do a backwards roll if he didn't conply, but the man grabbed a leek and waved it menacingly at the store manager, after which he ran away. This is exactly why I hate shopping at big name stores, because unless I have the card, it ends up getting super awkward after I say I don't have it and I don't want one. But there were a few times where I was basically forced into getting one. Ohhh btw there was one time, where I was almost forced into getting an ADDITIONAL rewards card because the first one had basically turned into a membership card. He asked for the rewards card and I was like here you go. And he was like no that's the membership card. We have another card separate from that now. I'm like wtfffff. And some other employee next to him was being an a-hole and literally said to me, "we're not giving you this unless you sign up." Thank God the first guy shooed him away and let me buy the product anyways because that was messed up big time.

At least some rewards programs are designed in such a way so that if you shop with them frequently enough, you might save money compared to doing the same amount of business with them without being part of such a program. However, if you don't shop with them often enough, then over time you might end up paying more in monthly subscription costs than the extra money you could have saved if you had signed up. Then there's the whole thing about tracking your data online and selling it to third parties that others here have already mentioned and described.
