How I remember the feelings of those days of cheer and joy. In my 76th year with a terminal illness I can not feel any sadness leaving the world as it stands now. The secular world is sterile and be-fretted with an unfeeling wrath at anything holy and beautiful. I look forward to soon be with my Father and my Brother and Savior Jesus. I think those who read comments of this vid may appreciate this: When I was growing up, on Christmas Eve, right after dinner, my father would set up the tree, my brothers would untangle the lights and my mother would hand out the ornaments top me and my sister. My father would then put (what seemed like) A quarter-inch thick record on the hi-fi. The Randolph Family Singers Christmas album, starting with "We wish you a Merry Christmas". When that song came on, that was the start of Christmas for me.

My mother put the tree up a week before Christmas. She took it down the day after Christmas. One year my brother used his paper route money to buy her a record she liked and heard on the radio. She loved it! Christmas Eve was fun, since all 3 of us older kids slept in the same bedroom. We would stay awake till late and play games until Mama and Daddy forced us to control our excitement and go to bed! Then we got up early! Early!! The baby slept peacefully in his bed. Or as Mother said, thank goodness! I never felt that way. I loved my children’s excitement and enjoyed Christmas along with them. Children are so special

@@MaryRosebudwe as kids got our Christmas tree from a pine plantation,me and my dad went in and illegally cut down these fir trees,it was always cold and deep snow,ok the deep snow was maybe exaggerated but we trudged home and decorated the tree,for some reason we never had lights ,we had baubles and I used to buy chocolate Santa's etc ,but the best thing ever we eventually bought Christmas tree lights ,and that made my Christmas.

I totally agree with all those who have already shared their thoughts and feelings about this beautiful program. Obviously, I don't know any of the contributors, but I'm an 89-year-old man who very well remembers the 'days of old' when these Christmas carols were sung by families sitting in front of a fire in the fireplace. We young boys and girls in our one-room country schoolhouse in rural Vermont also sang these very same carols every year. Therefore, I wish those o f you who read comments such as these a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I first learned ALL these Christmas Carols of old from the Orphanage where I grew up that have us all aHymn book with all the famous old ones and learned them on the clarinet as a Freshman in High school! Here in Australia it is the middle of summer at Christmas time so I am looking out on a beautiful sunny day. However we also grew up with these wonderful carols they are truly universal. Beautiful singing without superfluous vocal gymnastics.

Everything the other folks said yes thank you for letting us block out the outside world for almost 2 hours that in mind we could play with our friends our children we can sit down at a table and talk we could walk 2 miles to church in the snow play Christmas Eve service times and family spent time with family not machines this country with always freedoms and people taking advantage of them instead of cherishing them yes thank you for this beautiful thing that you put out there for us to listen to a blessed Christmas to you

It is a noisy, fearful world from back then indeed. Can’t even ride a bike on the road for fear someone will be playing with their phone, ect. and sadly that is just a tiny part of the problems. Like a post I made it would be interesting to discuss the differences of back then to now. It’s not the same at all.

Octogenarian here. The Lyn Murray Singers bring back memories of rural life at Christmas in the 1950s, when the celebration of Jesus's birth came first and Santa Claus was an amusing second in a poem meant for children. Choral singing was meant to express the spirit in the carols, not an exhibition of the talent of one individual singer. That's what I like about this presentation.

Man sets up religions........you cannot look to man to find God.......we fix our gaze and put our trust in Christ for our eternal salvation. "For God so loved the world (you ) that he gave (he made the way for you) his only begotten son that whosoever (you I pray) believes in him SHALL NOT PERISH but have ETERNAL LIFE"!! These are the Christmas carols I remember growing up. They take me back to the wonderful Christmas's when my parents were here. Daddy passed on Dec 30 a few years ago and Mama's been gone 2 years now. I miss them with every breath.

I miss Christmas like this he used to be better. Everything was beautiful. The snow is everywhere and everyone was so nicer but now in this world, some people just I just not right just don’t care. How people don’t really care about Christmas not a very nice world I miss the old world we’re everyone so happy together the carols when people come up to their door and sing Carols❤

I miss the simpler Christmases of decades past. We were more ignorant in many ways back then, but many things were better back in the 70s to 80s. The nice thing about Christmas carols is that they sound so traditional and not simply festive but reverent.

Remembrance of times when there didn’t seem to be so much greed. We didn’t get stuff all year long and then expect a truck load of gifts under the tree for Christmas. People, don’t appreciate what they have anymore, including being Blessed to have a family that loves them. Oh! Well , Lord bring back the family that puts You first ! The King James Version of the bible is from 1611 in England. Some of these songs are nearly 400 years old. Life was much harder in those days, tidings of comfort and joy was much harder to come by. No running water, fireplace or coal heat, few clothes, few shoes, horses, wagons carts, peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold peas porridge in the pot 9 days old. All they had at times was peas, or whatever they could grow, so Christmas and Christmas carols was a comfort to them. World War one was terrible, world War two was bad really bad too. Life has been difficult for thousands of years, cold, snow, no medicine, no electricity, candle light or kerosene lamps and heaters. So, I would think many of these carols are from England after the king James bible was more widely available, the bible was not really widely known, the printing press was not invented until 1550 or so in Germany. There were churches or priest who would read from hand written books but most people had very little. So, Life has improved for many but people must still work very hard to pay for it. In much of the world it is still like 1880 unless they have a car or live in a more modern city. Over half the world still lives with nothing, over 3 billion people live in shacks with very little. All of these songs are in fact going to come true and Life will improve in the world for all mankind. You have to believe that something in all of this is in fact true. My grandfather was in the first World War and you are correct it was a very hard time to be alive back then. He was an immigrant from Italy and came here for a better life for him and his family. I remember growing up the stories he would tell me about those days, today we live in such a different world. We all have hardships but we should be grateful for the blessings around us. It would be interesting to have a discussion of comparisons of then and now. I can see A Lot of contributing factors to today’s problems. My GMA who lived with us after gpa passed was from 1898, FIL from 1923 and it seems there are major differences. They did not fear being in public nor sending their kids to school. There were morals and ethics. Kids today are subject to too much and too much free time. They are growing up in a two income household, the schools are running them ragged with sports and arts classes and they are not home having a rest at the supper table together and if they do it’s not until just before bedtime. I know, I worked in a library. Then there is the ENDLESS murder movies and series along with video games that babysit them that shows the very visual killing and stealing at the push of a button with NO Remorse. AND this habit of gaming becomes a sickness for some who are still “gaming” well into their 30s and beyond. I knew of such a person and it destroys them. They don’t sleep and they aren’t present for anything else-not a functioning part of society. And that’s just a start to the difference between then and now. Back then I know if you had a farm you helped and bartered. You minded rules and were too tired to create havoc nor could they ever dream of things so hideous as what happens today because they were not subjected to the previously mentioned. Oh yes, times were hard back then, but they didn’t have fear like they do today at their doorstep.

I actually had a Christmas similar to this one that is seen here in this winter scene lights on outside and lights on inside with Carols and hymns playing on a big radio. And the wonder of the night before Christmas Day found great excitement on Christmas morning eating a hot breakfast and later opening gifts with family. We listened to the Christmas Carol by Dickens and the Night Visitor make a happy occasion to remember.

When I was a kid, Christmas arrived on Christmas Eve with the tree going up in the living room. All the family would gather and exchange gifts before we all left to go to Midnight Mass in a great freezing barn of a church. We celebrated Christmas until 12th Night when the tree was piled on a huge community bonfire and burnt. It is interesting to note that I do not clearly remember the gifts that I received. What I do remember is the laughter and smiling faces of my family.

Really hoping it snows this winter because I just love the snow. It reminds me when I was a little girl. That Christmas turkey all of dinner presents under the tree when you wake up it’s just the favorite thing about Christmas… but my most favorite thing is spending time with my family.❤💕🌨️

I miss these kind of Christmases. Everyone was so happy. Every care of people will come up to your door amd sing like bring us some piggy pudding reminding me when I was a child so lovely is Christmas is my favorite time of year I would put it up nice little Christmas town on my shelves. It was so lovely. My husband kept making me put it down. I kept saying never as I love Christmas. It was my favorite time of year. I almost keep it for like the next month and it never would go down. I just love my decorations reminds me so much of Christmas my favorite time when I was a little child I still love it ❤❤💕🌨️

I love this beautiful music when people cherished beautiful lyrics that were godly and good.
