I was lucky enough to play a concert with James Morrison. Guy is an absolute beast. After the rehearsal he left his trumpet hanging on the mic stand & with zero warm up, he walked on stage, picked up his trumpet and absolutely killed it from the first note!

James says he doesn't warm up because he plays multiple instruments in a gig (brass and reeds), swapping between them freely, so has to be able to play cold.

I’ve been to several of his gigs. He’ll play like this for an hour, have a 10 min break and you think “we’ll he’ll take it a bit easier in the 2nd set”….NO, he comes out and just keeps nailing it to the ceiling. Then jumps to trombone and does it on that. He’s way beyond awesome and a genuinely decent guy.

@@fortress1133 I was a sax player for years. I was the same way, playing for years, but it seems like the older I got, I ended up turning to just playing guitar and stopping the sax. I had played in a rock band, mostly saxes, but a little guitar. I actually never played guitar, until playing with the band, then after watching the guitar players backwards to follow the chords, I was able to sort of pick it up. I learned a lot of sax on my own, after high school band. I am too old now, but I still love to listen to the greats, of both the past and present.

@CoolSteve08
@CoolSteve08 Жыл бұрын
As a former trumpeter, when you go that high you do not hit them absolutely perfectly. It takes a lot of skill & practice & effort to get those very high notes to begin with, even more skill to be absolutely perfectly on pitch, and frankly not many people playing those really high notes will care that much about being absolutely perfect (like within 1Hz) and they're happy to be in the moment and get as close as they can.
