I told someone once that I was an introvert... she told me not to say such things about myself, and to not limit myself. She took it as if the word introvert was an insult! I went home and have been pondering this for the last two years. Edit: Now that I've read more comments I realize this is way more common than I thought. Yikes!

I can totally relate to this conversation. And we introverts are not lonely. We just value our peace and quiet more.

It's kinda tiring socializing with extroverts actually, i'm the only introvert in my family and they always thought i'm some kind of depressed or lonely cause i often say "i need some time alone" when i actually just love being only with myself. Or if i don't tell EVERY SINGLE THING that happens in my life like my sister always did to them, they'd say "why did you "never" share ur story with us? You don't trust us enough?" It always leads to misunderstanding.. Maybe Its because they all act the same so it's like i'm the weird one yk, but when they asked me why am i always acting like that, and i said it's because i'm an introvert, they be like "NO we're all extroverts iT's OkAy" like bru- i don't find anything wrong with being an introvert.

It bothers me that some people think that being an introvert is not normal or even a disease. There are even people who compare introversion to social anxiety. However, just because you like being alone it doesn't mean you're afraid of people!

I love it when people assume introverts are lonely and shy. We have no problems being alone. In fact we quite enjoy it. I can relate to the introvert so much.

Introvert means they just enjoy having alone time but they have friends, being an introvert doesn’t make u any less normal or any less human

Oh I felt this. My mom often asks me to mingle and socialize more with our fellow church members my age and I kept telling her that I'm an introvert and I prefer being alone and stay at home than to go socialize and join their group just to force myself to say something in order to not make them feel that I'm left out. Spending most of my time alone does not mean I'm lonely, it's just that I'm more comfortable and relax this way but my mom won't listen and told me that I was just being delusional about myself. Sometimes she also compares me to some other teens from our church telling me how I act differently from them cuz I was always at the corner or immediately go straight home while they spend talking to each other everytime the service ends so I just answered "...mmyeah" and walk out, she won't understand anyways. (Sorry english is not my first language)

My aunt said "you have to fix that introvert thing" WHY? Parties sound like torture. Why would I want to spend time with people I don't know or have any common interests with? I spent thousands of dollars to cater my house to my very specific, niche hobbies. It has everything I like in it. Why would I want to have terrible drinks made by people who don't know what they're doing, have boring and pointless conversations with people I don't care about?

I have to go to small children birthday parties bcuz the neighbours requested my small brother to come but he does not so my parents send me and I am literally not intersted at all . As an introvert that used to have depression I can confirm this is true we are not really shy much we simply dont prefer to socialize as it is very draining and we prefer to be alone

I can talk to people and got no problems about expressing my toughts but i don't like socialising, crowded places etc. it's better to have 2 or 3 close friends that i can be myself when i'm with them

I hate it when people treat introversion like it's a mental disorder or something that should be changed, that extroversion being recognized as the normal portion is a good thing or that introverts are narcissists full of themselves who are "just too good to talk to us". That's just wrong and really judgmental. It's no disorder, it's no illness, it's just a regular trait. It's a completely normal thing. And if you think introverts should talk more just because, then we think you should learn to respect others' appreciation for silence and/or loneliness. Introverts aren't being silent because they hate you or think they're superior, and even then by that logic then you would be the one thinking *you're* superior because people "have to talk to you". It doesn't have anything to do with respect, because when we're not talking to you we don't say inside our minds "lmaooo what a loser i shouldnt talk to him". We just don't want to talk, for various reasons. People may not understand and appreciate social norms, or just be uncomfortable talking to others. It's not hard to accept people who are slightly different than you, so please do it.

I hope everyone can understand that being an introvert isn’t something have to be cured...

What the HELL is wrong with you?!"

When I tell someone I'm an introvert, they say no you're not you just need to be more outgoing and have confidence.
