I'm seeing a lot of comments about accidentally drawing the lineart on the sketch layer. I don't know if this will help anyone, but I draw in a completely different color on the sketch layer (red, purple, blue, etc. doesn't matter what color you use, just different from lineart) and lower the opacity of the layer. That's what helps me.

also I put the sketch layer at a lower opacity and on alpha lock so I immediately notice if I'm on the wrong layer!

I do that same but sometimes I switch to black before I switch the layer and then forget to change the layer

@@Chicenk because if you notice your lineart is at a low opacity when it's not supposed to, it means you are accidentally drawing on the sketch layer and should switch to your lineart layer

You can try to zoom in and out often to check that the details aren’t too small for the scale of the drawing. Or, some softwares like Procreate have the possibility to keep the whole drawing visible in another window while you’re zooming in

I DID THAT WITH A REALLY GOOD LINEART! It was drawn over a picture of a physical sketch so I couldn't easily remove the background with magic select because of thw paper texture 😭

Ah yes, one time my sister spent over an hour working on a pair of boots just to realize no one would be able to notice all the detail anyways. This is why I say (in most cases) never to zoom in super close on your art because you are not seeing it from a normal viewing perspective

That depends though... If you're making something for a big print, the details are pretty important, cause you "zoom" in a lot easier irl that on the computer.

This kind of shorts are really a motivations for beginners like me. As I continually question myself , when I spend hours on a little drawing. This tells me there is hope if I keep grinding. Thank you really needed to see this today

I’m so glad you found it motivating! There is definitely hope, I went from having little experience in drawing to having a job a 2D Artist in the span of a 5 years. And I was 23 when I started. Good luck with your creative journey!

They used to be scary to me as well, but it got easier after I started practicing on them more and when I found a style I liked. I went from never drawing backgrounds to working as a backgrounds artist in videogames lol

I always ended up liking the sketch more than the Line art and this was such a frustrating topic to me for so many years until I finally gave up and decided to just permanently used pins and ink so that way I can’t erase and it doesn’t frustrate me and it’s so much better for me me

One time i was drawin a thing for a school project (big mistake never do any form of art for school projects) and it was pretty good, i was proud of it. NEXT DAY THE APP DOES A STUPID AND SOMEHOW DELETES IT WITHOUT ACTUALLY DELETING IT. I DIDNT EVEN BACK IT UP OR SCEENSHOT IT BEFOREHAND CAUSE IT NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. IT TOOK A WEEK TO DRAW.

The reason i color block 90% of the bg(sometimes line peices that i wanna bring more focus too,kinda like whe. You can tell somethings gonna move in an animation)so much easier and the lined characters pop so much more

Your sketch already looks clean enough for line art. Just darken it back and color it and just clean it up as you go.

Here's a tactic I use digital version first I draw my sketch then i use a paint bucket. can I use specific colors for each spot mainly the lighter tone then I use the other shades of the color and then I color it and detail to it.
