In sociology, there is a term called Disneyfication. It's obviously refering to disney and the way it uses a certain formula in all of it's movies nowadays. Have you noticed that almost every kids movie nowadays follows the exact same script with only small changes? It pretty much goes like this: Main character (and his friend(s)) are living a normal life. Then, something (usually supernatural) happens and their lives change by a lot. They don't like that. They "fight" the villain (=do whatever they can to change what they don't like), who isnt even a real villain, they just happen that they are always misunderstood (when was the last truly evil villain again?). If they win, their lives go back to normal. If they lose, they understand that the villain isn't evil and they just continue their lives. If the main character, instead of a problem, has a goal, it goes like this: They struggle, and with the "power of teamwork" achieve their goal. Disneyfication refers to the way many companies, especially the big ones like Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, etc, use the same formula for everything because it sells. They dont care if their work gets praised, they just care about money. They know they are going to make money from it, so they continue. They could spent time and money on something good, which will make them even more money, but it would take too much time. This is why anime/manga has been rising on popularity, they give the viewer/reader a story thats more original, has more meanings, more emotion, etc. That's the reason western media fell off.
