I'm so honored to have been mentioned in the video!! Great work man, this was a fantastic watch. Loved the portion about community. I can only imagine how many friendships have been born from gaming, some of mine included. I've met a number of people in real life through gaming, I even dated one of them for a couple of years! It's crazy how much chance meeting like that can impact your entire life...

Honestly I have a bad problem with wanting to just play or read or watch everything that relates to something else and I end up stressing myself out over it. I got so tired of it and I ended up here and its refreshing to see a lot of people and there experience with entertainment. I’ve been playing since 1989 when I 3 years old. And the biggest advice I could share is: Avoid the addiction of online only games (games as a service). Wasted 19 years playing dota/dota2/HoN/ Hots. So many great games I had to catch on now… the only true upside was meeting a friend from another city, which now we meet at least once a year. Still, not worth the dedication of almost 2 decades to so few games.

I think they can still be fun in moderation, just as long as you do just that: moderate. MMOs are obviously designed to keep you playing, though some say FF14 is the exception. The developers WANT you to take breaks from it and come back, which is. Nice sentiment.

Depends on your definition of friends. How many of them would give you their sofa if you lost your home? How many would lend you a thousand quid to pay your rent? How many would help you in a fight? The answers to those questions could see your perceived number of friends drop significantly. Most people don't even have two or three real friends. People who play games online as their only connection, are not real friends. They are gaming associates.

@@Mal_Freeman0451 I totally agree with this take, however I noticed that for example americans tend to call a lot of people their friends, while for example in my country, we usually reserve it for truly close relationships with whom we'd whether the apocalypse. @@Mal_Freeman0451 never said my online friends were gaming friends! And yes we’ve visited each others houses, helped out when people needed it. We’re a community, and we’ve been through loss, plus celebrated the good things over the twenty years since I joined. I “talk” to them every day. While most of the internet is filled with things that incite to anger and negativity nowadays, I feel like there's a trend that started, and that this video follows - which is positivity and acceptance. Saying "it's ok" in situations in which you don't have any control is the correct and healthy thing to do. It was never as easy as it is today for people to connect, and closed doors somewhere can open different ones elsewhere. Great content, and very healthy thinking, dude! There's a Romanian saying "We have only one life and only one hole in our ass". It is a vulgar way of saying "enjoy the moment, you'll die anyway".

It's true when you grow up and you get a job, your time get's shorter, more responsibilities come, that may lead to you stop gaming at all. In my experience, and the thing I'm currently facing is that I want to play a lot of games, games that are very good, but the problem is - I don't have time - our even if have time, I just can't stay 5 hours playing a game. Mainly because the only time I have is in the end of the day, at night. The thing is, I'm tired of work and I can't stay until very late in the night, because I like to wake up very early to go to the gym, and then work. So, I'm now playing Skyrim for the first time ever, and it's been amazing, the game is indeed solid and until now, one of the best games I ever played. But, again I can't play it for long hours, so you can imagine how much time will take me, just to beat the game completely. Plus, I already have other games that I want to play, but I hate to play different games at the same time, so I have to wait and finish what I started. Also, I do not want to play games like "Elden Ring", because of the reason you said in the video, I just can't get frustrated after a day of work. It would make me feel more tired and probably angry for dying too many times. At the end of the day, time may be the issue of all things.

I just can't express how much I can relate to your comment. I totally got what you say and if I can share what works for me is .... just play without never letting you feel bad about it, because life changes and the big difference since I was a child is that back then I could play hours and get frustrated and challenged, but now days I just want to chill and enjoy some feeling of being powerful or any other good sensation while playing games. Anyways, keep playing games, but mostly just whenever you can.

The part about communities is beautiful. I'm so thankful that I had friends and a brother that shared gaming as a hobby growing up. To me, gaming has always been a social hobby. Even single player games count since I discuss them with friends, recommend them and so on. On the one hand I realize I am lucky. On the other, it also takes a bit of active initiative to look for like minded people. I was always among the most hardcore player among my friend groups and most of them took it more casually or simply outgrew the hobby over time. Still talk to them to this day because we find other commons grounds. However, I've also had friends completely ghost me after 2 something decades worth of friendship and I still didn't drop hobbies for the sake of meeting new people; instead I found new friends even if it was lonely at times. I like to think the "online friends don't count" thing is not literal but a call that you do need in person interactions and that you need a social circle irl as well. You can have meaningful online friendships (I mean, I've attended weddings of people I first met online) and that isn't mutually exclusive with socializing irl in the means you have available at least. Although if I had lived in a remote area I would probably be saying otherwise. I am projecting from my own life experiences after all. Great essay.

I’ve never met anyone who played, let alone even knew much about games like the trails series or rune factory but those are some of my favorites. Online communities are cool but there’s something about a face to face interaction. Also glad to see the clock again. We are close in age so seeing a rough timeline of how much life is left messed with me for a day lol.

I'm the kind of person that hates seeing unread emails for instance lol. Being a gamer is tough, especially since I’m already a dad. It’s very hard to play a game when you have a family with kids. I always find myself unable to finish a game, and there are times when I’ve just opened the computer, only to have my wife or kid need me to do something much more important. I get frustrated at times, but at the end of the day, it’s just a game. I always think that the only people who can really play most games and spend thousands of hours on them are those who play games for a living, like streamers or KZfaq content creators. Not everyone can become a KZfaqr or Twitch streamer. And when there is a chance to play a game I’ve been wanting to play, I sometimes realize that the game just isn’t for me. If the game is too time-consuming, I end up not playing it. There are also games that aren’t worth playing, and I’d rather watch gameplay from others on KZfaq. I’m not sad that I can’t play whenever I want to most of the time; I’ve just accepted that I cannot play everything.

I love this video because it resonates with a lot of what I've been contemplating lately. Very long story short, I used to play a lot of competitive multiplayer games in my 20s and was OBSESSED with getting the top rank and I was able to in the games I hyperfocused on. But now I'm in my thirties and just don't have as much patience to git gud at many games anymore. It really has become a question of whether it was worth the trouble anymore and for a lot of games it's like yeah...I'm glad it exists and people enjoy it, but I just can't sink the kind of time into them like I used to. And that I should only stick to games that don't have too much of a punishing learning curve and actually pique my interest more profoundly.

Don't Worry, people playing physical sports have that fear too. They have a fear if they stop playing basketball that their friends wont talk to them anymore. If you have this worry just knows its okay to lose a few gaming friends, if even one of them sticks by you then at the end of the day you made a real connection playing a game you both liked, and I think that's something to be treasured

I want to share my story with gaming. I was a gamer since a childhood. 90% of my gaming were either co-op or playing online competitive games. After that I've felt that there's a ton of awesome and deep games, and this playstyle leaves me focused only on several ones. I've decided to list and play all the games that intrigued me, the games that had a crittical acclaim. Mostly my focus switched to single player experience, because you can finish the games, or drop it without arguing with teammates. Now I have over 350 games finished and more than a thousand waiting for their time. I've made a table in notion, review and score games for myself. I've enjoyed this life style. At one hand it made me appreciate different genres, it gave me feel of Meta Progress - I'm not just playing around but collect and complete important games. On other hand it is kinda fake, and sometimes it takes silliness and fun from the process, sometimes gives me feeling of needing to complete the list. Sometimes I feel that the table of games is more fun for me than gaming itself. I'm trying to have balance here. From my experience it is better to drop games that doesn't awe you, that aren't impressive. It is far better to replay the games that feels right, than try to complete underwhelming ones. My reviews help me remember games I've played, so it was a positive experience. P.S. Guys you can write me and we can complete some games together! Europe\Asia is a preferred region.

I think trilogies is a fine place to stop for most games, or else I couldn’t do anything then play the same games over & over again. Cause I like to have the back story of past games in the series and with game development being longer and longer in some cases there is a lot of games to replay.

Ah, finally, the sequel, love me some video essays. Can relate to wanting to know all references when it comes to getting into new franchises, sometimes i look up chronological order of games and play them that way instead of playing in release order too(though that can bite in the backside with series like kiseki(trails) and the like). As for people caring about how much dps and healing people do in raids? Yes, it's very much around, it always will be as long as tryhards and people that care about metas are around, MMOS are just like that. 19:16 Eh, i see nothing wrong with playing online games mindlessly, unless it's competitive coop game, anyway, sometimes it's good to just let the brain relax and have dopamine flow.

I relate to that commitment thing really hard. Couple months ago I sat down to understand the entire final fantasy franchise and all the main and spin off games. I started from the very first game, it was PR version. Didn't use magic the entire game now I'm stuck in the last final boss, and have given up on the entire franchise, even though the later games which are 3d open worlds are something I dig a lot, I just want to understand every small references made in the those games lol

Im in high school now and i just realized i have more time now than i will have in the next 50 years so im trying to overcome my addiction to league of legends and trying to play other games as i did earlier, i stumbled upon 2000s games and i really liked the aesthetics of them im currently playing nfs most wanted 2005 and im loving it, the one problem i see is lack of games i can play with my friends that arent just set for grinding and spending long hours doing repetitive things i can see it clearly that now when i sit on discord with my friends we dont really have a plan on what to play so we all just sit together and play singleplayer games even if a game is released it quickly loses player base or gets sinked in micropayments and other curses of modern gaming, i just wish i could experience what was it like 10 years ago or so.

That's big of you for trying to overcome the multiplayer gaming addiction early in life, good job homie. I'm almost 22 and wrapping up a college degree, and ive wasted thousands of hours being unhappy on apex and fortnite. Try to find single player games that compliment your life. For example, i got heavily into bloodborne for awhile cuz the challenging combat forced me to strategize and actively improve rather than just mindlessly plugging hours into random open world fetch quests. As far as good games to play with ur friends, ive found PvE to be much healthier than PvP. Look for old cod games to go on sale and buy those together. Cod Ghosts recently went on sale for playstation w full dlc included, and it's got a great alien horde mode that's fun to strategize with friends on. Lego Fortnite is also a great free one to play with friends, they have a cool star wars event

@@jckfrost36 Thanks for your reply and i have to say that i was a Fortnite player too but happily back in the day when i was really enjoying it with my friends as we were 12-13 at the time when fortnite had something that it is lacking now i guess it lost its personality and tried to become something it was never meant to be. Apex took about 200hours of my life just trying to sweat and learn some stupid mechanics that would just frustrate me more. As of now im enjoying Assasin's Creed franchise because i never really played the older games of the series and its amazing. In my short experience of gaming i have played so many different games and some of them i completed multiple times like GTA 5, RDR2 or Uncharted. Some of the games built my personality and taught me a lot about life thats why i will continue to play as long as i can because in my opinion playing a game is a life changing experience that everyone creates by himself which makes it so special. But there was also a time that i would sink into Valorant or LoL and just waste my energy on these games mindlessly looking for entertainment in something that drains me. Only pvp game that i dont regret playing for a 1000hours as of now is Rust. It created some of my best memories with my friends despite of it being one of the hardest and ungrateful games out there I will try out the CoD Ghosts as you say i tried CoD games in the past i played the original modern warfare 1,2,3 which were amazing and i was planning on playing black ops games. I spent 20 minutes writing this comment and i am not a very good english language user so i am sorry for any mistakes.

I’ve met my current girlfriend through discord and we connected over pokemon games, and what I severely lacked in irl friends in my childhood, online friends made up for so I could keep going, so I wouldn’t drown in my own loneliness at some point. So yeah, online friends are definitely as valuable as the ‘real deal’. Wouldn’t be here without them.

Having my first serious girlfriend at the age of 32 I find myself at a weird crossroads. On the one hand I enjoyed 5-6 hour gaming sessions, getting lost in different worlds, being someone else, but it was only because my own life was admittedly mundane. Now I have someone to care about and do things with, yet I still yearn for those long play sessions. (she's not a gamer either, can't win 'em all)

Nowadays I buy games I want even though I know I haven't finished the ones I bought before. I buy them, set them aside, think about them but I always try to finish the game I began first because I know I will never play the games afterward. It's sometimes quite hard but I tend to avoid the hype train now and just say "oh this game WILL be interesting after I finish this one or at least try to".

My single greatest advice to enjoy video games is to not play online only games. Online only games have grown stale and after a while you’ll grow tired because you’ll just be stuck in the same loop over and over with no end. Single player games have a set end. Even if you 100% a game, there’s a clear cut end. You ride the high, you reach a conclusion, you can move onto something new that suits your style (or even something new). I play almost exclusively single player games and I’ve never gotten bored of gaming. It’s all about the kind of stuff you play.

My main 3 rules to maximize the amount of games I complete are: 1- Don't worry about trophies or achievements 2- Avoid playing online games or games as a service 3- Stop playing a game if I don't like it and move on These 3 rules have helped beat a *ton* of games, and since I have a Modded Switch and a PS5 with PS Plus Premium I can't afford to waste time

My problem with Yakuza is they’re just too damn long. Yakuza 0 was perfect because it was a prequel, was the best in the franchise and it just felt like this awesome crime syndicate soap opera - and it was incredible. I rushed through Kiwami 1 and 2, got burned out on LaD and didn’t play any more games because I was so overwhelmed by how many of them they were, and they were full fledged RPGs too. But Yakuza 0 - I could honestly go back and replay that due to how self contained it feels. SO good.

idk if anyone will ever see this but ive played fps/online games forever since i was a kid (cod, halo, r6) and ive dumped hours into them and while i actually did make money off the games from being a "semi-pro" it was really exhausting and wasnt very fun a lot of the time. as of now i barely play any online games if any and have switched to mainly story mode type games and have enjoyed most of what i played, ive recently found it hard to actually play the games i want to and even harder to follow through and complete them, recently ive started to "force" myself to play for 30+ minutes everyday to help myself, and i actually have stuck with it most days and while it doesnt sound good to "force" myself, 99% of the time i actually end up enjoying the time ive played and play for like 2 hours jus getting lost in the game and everything, while maybe i should take a break and come back when i want to, its hard for me bc gaming is my biggest hobby and i kinda jus wanna finish the few games i do have left and then take a break for awhile perhaps, i jus have a weird urge to beat the games in my library sm.

It was easy during childhood and teenagehood because I had no money and also a shitty PC. So I was already very limited. I had much fewer games, but that also meant I could take my sweet time with them. Now I have hundreds of them and I often don't know what I should pick. Should I play this game that's been sitting there unfinished or never touched, or should I yet again replay one of my 50 or so all time favorites?
