This one hit me because my Dad is similarly like this with me.. except reverse it and he’s mad because I stopped playing basketball to do what I wanted to do when I got to college and still to this day he’s mad at me when he’s the one who tried living his dreams through me. It still hurts me to this very day. He’s said to my face that he hates me and that he can’t stand me and doesn’t give me any credit for what I have accomplished within my life. I don’t want to speak on much else because I’ll get emotional, but Niles if you see this, just know that I alive your creativity and thank you for your videos. Most make me laugh and make me feel better. That’s why I started watching you because you’re relatable. Continue to put smiles on peoples faces and make people laugh. I know the feeling. My dad put me into all the sports. By the time i got out of highschool i had no idea what i actually wanted to do. Thought i wanted to be a professional athlete my whole life. Took awhile to figure out that wasnt really my dream it was his. Luckily my dad realized its my life and im living it how the fuck i want to live it. And he didnt trip about it. Im sorry your dad still stuck in the past to this day. Thats shitty bro. Try to make it water under the bridge. Lifes too short to dwell on what ifs.
@drjonesey5

Ya dad sounds like an a-hole, but there's always a chance you can turn that relationship around if you actually care to work on it. My father got kicked out when I was 14 because he was an abusive drug addict. I literally watched him attack my mom multiple times, arguments, fights etc. he was verbally abusive to me and my mother never let him do anything to me. For 18 years I didn't hear from him and then all of a sudden he pops up trying to get in contact with my sister who don't even remember him because she was 6 when he left. My mother never told him to stay away, he was always welcomed to come see us and I even found out later he was dating a woman who lived 5 blocks from our house at the time and he never came to see me or my sister but 1 time when I graduated Jr High. I got bullied because of him, everyone in the hood knew who he was, he was a coward that ran from fights and the neighborhood knew it. So I got in contact with him, my sister didn't answer him, we had a single talk on the phone for 2-3 mins, then we text a little, no hate involved, he said something dumb and I told him about himself and then he stopped texting/calling and it's been 7 years since then. He has 2 grandkids he's never seen and isn't trying to see. I went through 3 Graduations, my first child, a business hustle, multiple promotions and raises, my 18th Bday my 21st Bday, got engaged to my woman and soon to be married without him and yet, I don't hate this man, I have no ill will towards him and I still would like a relationship as father and son with him. I was hurt when younger, but I been forgave him for his ways. We all flawed, we all different, but if God can place it on my heart to forgive my dad, you can forgive yours even if he still acts like he does. I can't guarantee you he'll change, but take it from someone 30+, as the years go by, your biggest regrets will become the things you didn't do. Keep your head up.

Imagining it as real life...I actually felt the pain for the Son. In cases like this, Parents should NOT tell the truth.
@TeamRocketWes
@TeamRocketWes Жыл бұрын
Why not
@1noonoo
@1noonoo Жыл бұрын
@@TeamRocketWes Greetings. Good question. Let me add a bit of clarity to my statement.... Parents may be honest concerning timeline events and decisions made, which are part of the timeline. Often, children learn from experiences parents have shared. Children may decide to stay away from possibly unpleasant situations, indulge in certain experiences, or come up with something new, because of life stories shared by parents. It's fine to let your child know that a decision was made to let something important in your life go, because you wanted to or felt at the time that you needed to focus all or most of your energies on them. It cool to share with your children that you got caught up in your feelings at a time you weren't fully prepared to care for a child: Shared honestly, yet tactfully. Tactful honesty can be beneficial. However, expressing your heartfelt feelings that your child is an accident and mistake, because when you were younger you were in a seemingly uncontrollable mood and that your life was and is ruined because of them is not something to share with your child unless you want to harm them emotionally. You don't have to lie about your feelings, but you don't need to share all the details with them either. If asked directly, a parent can simply say it was a growth marker in their life timeline or something along those lines. Honest, not lying, but not laying out all of the truth/facts. The "Father" in the skit, and some parents in reality, may have negative feelings about their kids and life situations as though it's simply a fact/truth that there was no choice. The hard reality, which is not the easiest pill to swallow, is that in these type of life situations we actually do have a choice. We just may not be fully aware of it at the time or may have decided to ignore the thought of a choice and went with the flow, which is a passive choice. The "Father" could have chosen to find some way to continue his pro career. It may have meant sacrificing sleep to work extra, or pride and utilize public assistance until he started getting professional level checks, or asking family and/or friends for help, etc.. Instead, he chose to place blame on the child by deciding that his life was ruined, feel miserable and decide there was no way he could be a professional athlete and care for a child. It's all choices. It's hard to see it that way sometimes. It's hard even after you realize this about all or nearly all choices chosen in life. We are human and prone to err. But......Once a parent fully understands and accepts that life is mostly created through choices and not controlled by circumstances, they realize some decisions they thought they had to make were not based on actual reality, but just a perceived personal feeling of reality. Armed with this knowledge, parents then know they have or have had groundless feelings (that more than likely are there because they are unhappy with themselves and their choices) that don't need to be shared unless they want to mar the child. ✨
