Oh, the number of temporarily placed telephone drop wires hastily laid and running through the woods to bypass a wet buried cable splice and get a customer back in service there are out in my area, my manager assures me that we will be back to rehab that bad splice just as soon as the trouble load clears up a little... Yeah, that was four bosses ago.

That rapid plunge cut reminded me of a funny story. A pal of mine who's a welder always seemed to enjoy the company of a different beautiful woman every weekend, and he was really no looker. I asked him his secret. He said, "It's all in the technique, my man: you push it in fast and pull it out slow. That's all there is to it. Women LOVE that." I could not wait to try it. The following weekend I was with my usual gal and we were gettin' busy. I pushed it in fast and pulled it out slow. In fast, out slow. While we were enjoying a Winston afterwards, I asked if she noticed anything different. She shrugged, and replied, "you fuck like a welder."

The Orange Vises have an allen key adjustment point to keep play down in double vise configuration, it sounds like yours is too tight and causing it to bind up. I didn't like the ones I had to use as the only thing keeping the solid jaw accurately trammed was 2 dowels that were quite a loose fit. Heavy roughing would throw it off up to .0015" from one side to the other. If I had to do finishing work, I would simply clamp the part, then indicate the machine to the part. A ratchet with a deep socket worked worlds better for opening and closing them too.

Haas Setting Number 103 is a really nice feature for proofing programs. Instead of hovering over the red Feed Hold button it makes the green Cycle Start button on the controller act as a “dead man’s switch” stopping the cycle on release, which would be a faster reaction (and effect) than pressing a button.

17:53 I'd like to place my non-substantial wager on those seedlings being some variety of Plantain. They are maybe not worth much for saving, but your chickens will happily eat them in all stages of growth, as will rabbits. It can also perform several herbalist remedies. From the three goals of serious herbalism, it performs one which is as a laxative. The other two, thankfully not; making it a pretty good plant to cultivate under trees, where its broad leaves can catch the sun and shade out competitive weeds, while attracting birds with its seeds, which can then eat the bugs that it pulls away from your garden. Hostas are probably a more conventional choice for that application though, and plenty edible to humans and all wildlife. Deer get territorial over a secluded hosta patch (they are naturally a woodland plant), and I got a good-sized White Tail that took a nap in my yard so as to grab another few bites of hosta at dawn before slipping back into the woods. He didn't make it back to the woods, and now I plant lots'a hostas (and sunchokes... Does love sunchokes... and mulberry leaves, but mulberries in the beaks of birds gets your car an unwanted paint job). :)

Maybe someday I too will be a certifiable Haas operator :) I actually have access to a Hass at work. One of the reasons I bought the 3018. I feel a lot more confident after watching this video :)

at my shop we made some vise grippers for grabbing stuff extra good. we make stuff out of carbon fiber typically but occasionally we need to make a tool to work some kinda problem out. its a 5 axis vf3ss barely a year old and uses pneumatic vises that work along with a robotic machine tender to keep the machine running lights out for production work. we did the knurling by using the last two axis to hold the stock at an angle and came in with a end mill to cut the knurls. we couldnt find anyone that sold a gripper bar like the one we made. quite simple compared to what we make production but now we can grab a massive block of stock and it will not go anywhere under a knurled grip of 75 psi.

Nice gimmick for the knurl. I wonder how I'd spec that on a drawing. I'll have to confer with the shop on that one to agree on a secret code word for it. For hobby purposes, it's fun to put the cosmetic fillets on everything, but I spent a lot of effort trying to get the younger engineers to stop wasting shop time on them. It's so easy to put them in the design, but here we see how much time it takes on the machine. The customer didn't pay for the cosmetic fillets upgrade!

They wanted $370 each to replace them and 3 out of 4 were broken. Cost less in a trip to mcmaster get a piece of steel, an angle cutter, program and run the damn things myself than the cost of a singular piece. This was 20 years ago, when $370 was the equivalent of $85,204 when adjusted for inflation.

When you are giving the piece in the jaws some ultra-fine adjustment, you set the level down on the piece harder than the 'ol tappy-tap-tap that preceded it. Using a level, rather than the approved field mouse, bubble gum, eyeball it from 1 medium sized step away. You're a daring fella, AvE. I may or may not have puckered a bit when that turbo-plunge occurred. You'll never know, unless you look at my chair, which may or may not have a butt bite taken out of it.
