I'm finally addressing the most asked question I get on all social media "WHERE ARE YOU ACTUALLY FROM, YASMIN?" Spoiler alert: it's complicated! XD
It takes too much effort to explain the full story to everyone, but with this video I want to unveil the mystery that a lot of people can't get their head around when they see my videos, see all my different family and hear me speak different languages. So here you have it, my explanation of which countries my family comes from, as well as some unexpected DNA test results! I used AncestryDNA because it was a gift from my siblings, but I looked up 23andme as well and looks like they might be able to give a more detailed account. Any genetics experts here please feel free to correct my explanation at the end!

I'm a mixed background travel lover who makes videos for fun and puts them on KZfaq. I was born in Spain and grew up in Spain and Sweden. Currently I'm living in England doing a PhD in climate science. Whenever I travel somewhere I like to do vlogging, filming, photography and editing as a hobby to share my travels with you! My native languages are Spanish and Swedish, but I make videos in English so more people can understand.

You were one of the first KZfaqrs to vlog about Pakistan. These days Pakistan has finally taken off as a destination and lots of big named vloggers are headed there. You as a pioneer and as someone with Pakistani heritage should come back again and do a full travel series. Youre the OG Pakistani KZfaqr! Your Sri Lanka series was great too, you have to go back there too!

That is awesome that you remember that! Yes haha there definitely wasn't much on youtube when I started, I definitely plan on going back and doing more proper travel videos where I have more time to travel and put more effort into the filming, rather than just vlogs. Thanks for the nice compliment!

Same here, I'm slavic and she has brighter skin than me, lol. Pigmentation of skin doesn't really explains ethnicity.

I got 49% South Asian, 35% Central Asian and 16% British. I am also a pure Punjabi. Very unexpected results. Maybe the Aryan theory is true.

@@SuviTuuliAllan It's a theory that states that people from Europe and Central Asia (Aryan Race/Indo-Aryans) inhabit the North of the subcontinent and all the native speakers of Dravidian languages that once inhabited the North as well, were driven to the South.

You are currently paler than me and I got 100 percent British and Irish on my DNA test. I am Scottish, I have tan skin (because I have lived in Australia since I was a child), Black hair (my hair is much darker than yours when you were a kid) and Hazel eyes.

I'm a lot like you! My dad is also half European and Half Indian, and my mom is also white. The funny thing is I'm darker than you are but I only show up as 23% South Asian on ancestry lol. Much love from America! 🇺🇸

I live in Germany and i am of German/Romanian ancestry. My results of dna were: 61,2 % Balkan 🇦🇱🇧🇬🇷🇴🇷🇸 23,3 % Greek 🇬🇷 11,9 % Scandinavian 🇳🇴🇸🇪 2 % Ashkenazi Jewish 1,6 % Central Asian 🇰🇿🇺🇿

Your Balkan and Greek is for sure from your romanian Part. It seems similar to the results of the Albanians that I have seen here. No wonder, since we were always nighbours and more than that.

You do know there are blond and blue eyed Pakistanis and red heads as well. I am pure Pakistani and so is my husband, we are light brown but our daughter is whiter then you. Does not mean white is superior but Pakistanis are a variety as we have variety of climates from snowy peaks, to desert, the palm tree beaches to beautiful green countryside to green lush mountains. So naturally our skin is going to be a variety. We have high green eyed people too because I think when light and brown eyed people mix over generations it turns green, our country had Aryans from Russian pontic steppes and the indus valley indigenious population which was a one of the oldest civilisation of world mixing. You should be proud of it as is a nation of Emperors, rulers and warriors, even the British struggled to oppress them and subdue them as they a strong people. They gave them allot of headache lets say, they are brave people. Not to offend your finnish and swedish side, who are beautiful people with Blond hair and blue eyes but really in history they have no great mark or story or Empires. Like they are known for cheese I think...but at least they have natural landscapes and beautiful people.

Do you have ever visited India or planning to visit?Some of the nice places are- Shimla,Goa,Kerala,Taj mahal and much more...India is like a continent, from rain forest to deserts,snow mountains to backwaters,lakes to nice beaches,elephants to snakes and there are plenty to watch on wild.Foods, there are tons of varieties from places to places.

You have a Pakistani grandfather, wow! Me too, except it was my maternal grandfather! According to my knowledge (what my family have told me, obviously, and also what I've witnessed), my maternal grandfather is fully Pakistani from a place called Kashmir, my maternal grandmother was mostly Dutch and European alongside with some other mixed stuff, my paternal grandfather was Turkish/Middle Eastern, and my maternal grandmother was Spanish/Portoguese. Quite of a mix, haha! I just ordered a DNA kit, and I'm mostly excited to see what have I inherited from all that and whether what I thought my ancestors are from was accurate or not. I tan so easily and I'm also the darkest among my siblings, my skin tone is about pale olive and when I spend some time in the sun it becomes dark olive. Though my older sibling has a almost snow-white skin tone, but he still tans but not as much as me. I'm expecting to be about 53% Asian (Pakistani, Arab, and Turkish), and 47% European (Dutch, , Spanish, and Portoguese), but who knows what might have I inherited.

I know a girl who's Kashmiri with red hair and freckles, it was really surprising to me when they understood what my parents were saying in their language. There's some people like that in Gilgit as well, visited there 5 yrs ago

In fact Indians are the most successful immigrants in US and they are the richest and most educated groups in US and even more than british americans or Israeli americans. Decades back bill gates commented to warren buffet that he like to recruit talented students from IIT,India for jobs in Microsoft.Indian TATA owned iconic UK brands like land rover and jaguar.The coming decade will be the wishes and domination of US,Chinese and Indians.

Very cool video! I'm so glad you mentioned being pale since it is March. I have the same issue, by the end of winter I am MUCH lighter due to lack of sun! So much so that I've been asked if I use make-up or skin lightener!

She is 35% South Asian, of which 2% is from lower caste background, shes indian not spanish, only a little of South & Central Indian genetics need to be held to be considered fully South Asian.

@@cowboys360 when this test tells you that you are 35% South Asian what it tells you is that comparing your DNA with their database from different ethnic groups, their guess is that around 35% of your ancestors alive around 500/600 years ago lived in that region. It doesn't get further back in time.

Hi Yaiyasmin I know how you feel, I am just as surprised as you lol 😄 I did my Ancestry Report too and even though me, my parents, my grandparents and my great grandparents where all born in Colombia, South America on my Ancestry DNA test I got 27% Native American, 21% Spain, 19% France, 10% Portugal, 7% Cameroon, 5% Native American Andean, 3% Italy, 2% Mali, 1% Basque, 1% Senegal etc. so honestly since I got so much Western European genes and I look very Latino and dark skinned in appearance , so I don’t know if those test are really that correct and accurate lol 😄 but honestly it doesn’t really matter cause in your case you came out so gorgeous, wow!! 👍😍 You are one of the most beautiful girls I have seen in my life and I love all your travel videos, I’ve been following you for a couple of years now, so keep up the great work and take good care of yourself!! 💐🤗

I think your most genetic ancestor origin lyes in Gujarat and western India and can be considered as Indian.

umm I could be wrong but could one of your other three grandparents from your europe side be south asian mixed? the extra 10% is a significant bit tbh to be some extra asian from your paternal grandparent only. Does one of your european family members have some gypsy or south asian ancestry? your dad's mom is from spain so it could be a possibility that she's part gypsy?

Hey! It could be a possibility but my Spanish grandmother also took a test and didn't come out with any south Asian heritage at all so I think most likely it's all from my granddad.

You don’t need to purchase a dna test from a second company. You should be able to download the raw data from AncestryDNA and submit it to gedmatch.com (a free service run by geneticists that provides the most granular and up-to-date results.) But you don’t need to do that either, because you knew your ancestry well enough going in and the results were pretty much much what you’d expect. (No wildcards, but some of the percentages seem off.)

Lol I'm American and we were totally surprised also by my results.. but I do have really dark features and even like an olive skin tone my mom was adopted in 1969.. but I looked everything up and I'm guessing her people would have been from southern spain.. also I'm 3 percent british and 1.1 percent Irish.. but now since I found out I'm almost all Spanish lol I wanna go to spain lol we are Latin right?

You seem to have gotten more asian DNA than your siblings. They look nordic with blond hair and even the facial structure. It's so odd that DNA doesn't get split down in the middle, it's actually a random selection. Would love to see your siblings test results.

there has been a lot of migratory people in history via trade and wars the last 1000yrs. plenty of reasons to move to a new land in last 400yrs. also people have got different results from ancestry test vs 23me. traits wise I share eye color with my bro but more features shared with one sister over another who shares more features with my brother. both parents shorter and tan better then siblings,. some things skip generations , and so larger families see more variations appear.

I wonder where I’m from, born in Hong Kong, grandfather’s mother was Chinese and father migrated from Iran or Afghan (not sure) to India, then they moved to hongkong.
