I personally do not log a flight, the reason is, I am disabled and im not happy thay anyone who has the app knows I am flying £1000+ worth of equipment, if the information just went to the authorities I would have no problem giving that information. Remote ID is also a huge problem for me, again if it was just the authorities that got my flying info I wouldnt have a problem, but its not working that way, anyone can get that info if they wanted, I will be selling now up as my risk is too great now.

@Geeksvana Thanks for this video its has helped a lot, one thing if you have a spare minute is in the summer i took my drone on holiday to the new forest and read that you can't fly there as its crown land etc unless permission is granted but also read you have no chance of permission unless you work for a tv company! i did email and my request was declined so the drone stayed in it case and after watching this video i see there are yellow areas with sssi attached and yellow areas with ground hazards and wondered if you can fly in this area, it would be great to know as i would like to re visit there next year. Kind regards Wayne.

The way I understand it, if it specifically forbids a flight, such as in a FRZ or Airspace restriction, then you can’t fly without permission, all other places it’s up to you to judge on the day if the flight is safe. Just because the area is red, doesn’t mean flights are prohibited. For example of this, our clubs flying field is covered by a big red box, but this is a controlled airspace (CTR) from 2000 feet up and doesn’t require permissions to fly, unless you are planning on flying above the 2000 foot ceiling.

Hi, thanks for the information great channel, I'm new to the drone community and I'm somewhat bewildered by all of this. I recently purchased the Mavic 3 pro to do aerial photography primarily for the quality of the cameras, I've never flown a drone before and I'm beginning to think I made a mistake buying this drone because it's one of the heavier drones, it seem to be heavily restricted, am I wrong? What can I do to enjoy this drone in the UK.?

Thanks for the information. Good overview. However, as I get older I feel less and less able to go and fly my drone. To be honest it is fear. I used to fear losing the drone or crashing it but as the regulations and restrictions have come in, and look to be increasing in 2024, I feel that I have no confidence in being able to fly without violating some rule or law. I am a law abiding citizen in all things and I am mortified if I think for one moment that I may have violated the law. Despite excellent apps like Drone Assist, I feel it is still impossible to be 100% certain that you are not violating a law, either national or local bylaw, or running the risk of confrontation with members of the public or an official when flying in an area. I avoid all types of confrontation, I fear physical and verbal assault. Keeping to the Drone code is not difficult to be honest but as you say, that is not all you have to worry about. If I accidentally ended up in court being prosecuted for flying my drone then I would likely never leave the house again. A criminal record can destroy your life and prevent you from travelling overseas for example and therefore I have decided, reluctantly to sell my drones this month. The risk is too great to the extent that it obliterates any enjoyment. I will just stay on the ground with my main hobby of photography.

Appreciate the content on your channel! Thanks for sharing. It seems silly the app doesn't have ADSB integrated into it. Having the ability to trigger an alert when an aircraft equipped with it comes within a configurable range of your planned flight whilst it's active, would be invaluable. More for the slightly riskier areas where you could do with something like a heads up of impromptu helicopter traffic.

That’s stupid, all it’ll do is encourage people to fly regardless and then the airport has no idea how many people are flying wherever. Our local airfield has taken a similar stance, no permissions at all and blanket denial, yet, the big arse airport down the road, Gatwick, just need the location and a call when taking off and once completed. Funny that.

Hi Sean, I'm thinking of buying a DJI Avata 2 with all the kit, I've checked the CAA site on where you can and can't fly. I'm nearly a third of the way into a red zone " EGR 101" SE area. The pop up info says area for the helicopter pad at the AWE. I have behind my garden an allotment and small children's park. During the day no one is ever in the area. Because of the red zone would I be able to fly?? At the moment I have a beetle drone which I have flown in my back garden at just over 6". I intend to take the CAA test in the next few days and then order the DJI Avata 2.

I took a Sphere shot from 300 feet just outside Mosborough village. I do these all around Sheffield and get some great feedback from viewers on social media. On this occasion I received a complaint and a lady decided to demand I take it down as it was an invasion of privacy. On the Sphere there are no people visible and directly below the drone there is a field. You can see some houses in the distances but I feel at 300 plus feet I am not in a position to invade privacy and no one is or can be identified. This Lady decided to post me the CAA guide on invading peoples privacy and as a hobbyist I do not fly close to the ground and do catch urban sites to show the. Great design and the look of our estates. Five years flying and no complaints. The complaint was sent after she saw the picture and wasn’t aware of the flight at the time. I believe I’m ok flying a sub 250g drone and for this pic I was just outside the village and I have refused to remove photo to protect my legal stance for myself and other responsible drone pilots from losing the benefits of our hobby by arguing people who have nothing better to do than get there own way.

It sounds like you are doing everything you should be doing and keeping people's privacy in mind. Sadly, I get the occasional person insisting they have privacy over their entire house being shown or similar. Hopefully, as the years pass people will get used to what privacy really means in photography terms.

Where I work we have a slight leaking roof and had a company come in with a drone to check out the roof. Because we are in the Southampton airport FRZ his drone said he needed authorisation from the airport so the roofer had to get permission from ATC to fly 30ft (two storey building) but was refused so he couldn't check our roof
@Geeksvana
@Geeksvana Ай бұрын
Hey Mark! There is a standardised way to apply for permission with most airports, and Southampton is within that. Unfortunately it takes a set period of time, so it is possible the drone operator did not give themselves enough time. It is a common issue. Although it is just a small drone flying at 30ft, the airport has to go through the same process for every permission. It can be frustrating but checking airspace prior to flying will usually identify any permissions required beforehand.

There's no way, that owning a very capable Mini 3 Pro, that I would currently consider upgrading to a different drone, especially to a +250g drone,, when the UK CAA rules are being possibly much more restrictive with their new violation fines etc. It seems to me it's a CAA assault on camera drones because of security/privacy concerns; with no evidence to support their concerns.

THE 2023 NSA is actually in force now, it is worth reading up on it, especially section 7 regarding prohibited places and the wording used, it drops all the responsibility on the drone operator/photographer regarding taking pictures or flying in the area, be aware of bye laws too and just because it is yellow it does not mean you can fly, but common sense says you shouldn't really be flying near some of these places anyway.

@Geeksvana
@Geeksvana 22 күн бұрын
The drone rules are currently more simple and open than they have been for many years. You can fly a sub 250g drone in more places and closer to people in the UK than you ever could. We are sharing the airspace with lots of other users, many of which have people on board. So, there it is always going to feel like there is a lot of rules for a small drone. But you have to remember who the other users are and the safety benchmark becomes much higher. So, rather than 'freedom' disappearing, we have gained freedom through these newer rules. Sadly, the amount of idiots currently out flying drones however they see fit and getting caught doing stupid things is likely to end many of the current freedoms we enjoy with our drones at the moment.
