It wasn't a failure to go online that doomed BB&B. They WERE a convenience store for name brand housewares where you'd pay a little extra to knock out half of your Christmas shopping list in one shot. No driving around to different stores, or waiting on a package to show up. Just done. That was their business model. Then their selection become incredibly sparse and got replaced by terrible store brand items. Nobody was going to pay extra for that... online or off.

A friend of mine's wife, also a friend, went to BB & B and the second she walked in the door the manager said I have something I've been saving for you and went into the storage area and brought out some kind of a pink bag that looks like it would hold a days supply for four kids at the beach. Imagine that you're so well known the manager saves something for you. L O L.

The clutter and claustrophobic feeling the towers of stuff caused me only increased with time and made shopping there increasingly unpleasant. And, once the major brands disappeared, they were doomed.

It boils down to three things: 1. Stock buybacks - billions of dollars blown on air, so to speak, which could have been extremely useful in recent years. 2. Failure to modernize, in general, and online in particular. Online presence was slow and clunky, and internal supply chain was antiquated as well. 3. Tritton's sudden and all encompassing shift to private label brands. He did great with that at Target, but the BB&B customer was a totally different animal. So, he essentially tried to turn BB&B into Target Lite, driving off the traditional BB&B customer, but not giving Target customers any reason to shop there. COVID has been mentioned, but all COVID did was warp up the trajectory BB&B was already on.

I’m glad that I got to have my wedding registry at BBB before they closed. Online shopping is nice and I still like to go into a physical store and see all of their products. I really hope that no more break in border stores close in the Internet does not take over our shopping experience.

I think their downfall is pretty simple- they offered nothing of substantial quality that I couldn't already get somewhere else for quite a bit less money. Stopping into the one near me maybe every few months or so over the past couple of years and things started to just get cheaper and cheaper in quality, but prices stayed the same or rose.

I got let go as a supervisor at my store in February but I’ve since found a great job making more money doing the same thing for Ulta Beauty and I wish the rest of my family at bed bath and beyond has the same luck I have. The people who worked so hard there day in and day out didn’t deserve this!

Today, I went to BB&B and found out that yesterday was the last day to take gift cards. I have $110 worth of gift cards. 😢😢😢😢😢 all that trip is nothing. Wasted my time and disappointed for not able to use my giftcards. 😢😢😢

I'd claim that this store was a favorite but i haven't set foot in Bed Bath & Beyond since May of 2015. I got my first three Cuisinart 12 cup coffee makers there beginning in late-'06. Top shelf (literally where they are kept) bath towels from this store are still in the linen closet out in the hall. I'm sorry to have been away for so long and i won't be participating in what's going on there now. Every time we went to the Bed Bath & Beyond in Newtown, PA, we'd go to Applebee's across the way for their Fiesta Lime Chicken.

The talk of option writers pocketing millions weekly is never brought up along side the fact that I bet you will NEVER let an unrealized gain go unsold like that again....right? Most expensive overpriced tuition you'll ever pay for...but tuition nonetheless.

I went once. It was disorganized and jam packed with merchandise to the point I felt a little claustrophobic. Never went back.

Bed Bath and Beyond killed themselves by keeping their stores closed way way way to long during the covid recovery. Everywhere else was opened and they kept their customers out so we forgot about them...Store's are open but you can't come in. Really really bad for a store were people primaryily impulse buy and they knew it.

They had too much debt. More debt than they could pay off by selling themselves off as shares. Vid doesnt explain why they had so much debt, which means the vid does not explain at all its own clickbait header. While BBB went into debt, Ikea quadrubled its sales in the last 2 decades. While Ikea even sells on amazon, the Ikea stores are so full all the time that it is no fun to go there, ever.

Sad to see BBB go, they were a great home goods store. Not totally shocked though, I would only go if I was redesigning a room. Not really a store I would go to with any regularity

The reality (and this is for any corporation moving forward) is that it wasn't appealing to young generations getting out on their own. BB&B didn't offer anything that we millennials and younger couldn't find for cheaper online, so of course we're not gonna shop at a place that doesn't fit out budget (which let me remind you is very low due to cost of living shooting through the roof where we have to spend most of our pay on rent and food). So yeah, any business on the verge of collapse needs to do a major overhaul to appeal to the young generations or die out like the rest, because the loyal customers are getting too old and dying out now a days to rely on them for anything.

In my opinion, they had way to much inventory! I don’t know if they had to pay for the inventory or had it “on consignment” but, they had tons and tons of inventory which I have never seen in any other store! Their “carrying costs” must have been astronomical! They waited too long to sell their products “on line”!
