I followed indian cricket since long, I never seen a selfless batting like he did, he never was lusty for individual fifty or hundreds but his strike rates an his tactics.. plus bumrah also played selfless...he used to put pressure on batsmen an others were getting wicket.

Akash Chopra ji thank you for narrating the story as it happened. Few big lessons to the upcoming games for Team India, while playing matches against the heavyweight opponents - 1.) Always keep in mind that the pitch should be easy to bat and also aid fast bowling. Its a rule of thumb. Lets not try to make spinnfriendly pitches as it doesnt help while playing overseas by any means. Use the existing chennai and kolkata pitches for spin if needed and focus on playing on good batting friendly pitches of Wankhede and Bangalore 2.) Indian team needs taller players in excess of 5ft 9 inches who can bat and fast bowl - like Hardik Pandya for sure (hardik can pull the bouncers for 4 and take a wicket as well with the short ball because he is taller) 3.) We need to focus on fielding and better field placements that are targetting a specific opponent batsman based on their weakness. 4.) An attacking field with slips to save the odd boundaries and prevent bastmen from freeing their arms is needed. This also means we need players who are able and fit to run across larger boundaries and be willing to dive. So the outfields should be of good quality grass to support dives 5.) Please focus more on ODI and test matches rather than T20 / IPL. Better have ODI IPLs 6.) Fielding, catching, throwing at stumps, running between the wickets, building partnerships must be given preference over hitting just raw shots towards boundaries all the time. 7.) Prefer to play a day match instead of a day-night match. For heavens sake, playing under the lights is stressful. especially the dew factor, sleeplessness and tiresomeness, difficulty seeing the ball under the lights etc are all practical factors that we should avoid at all costs 8.) After all we invest on our precious players, so keeping them mentally and physically fit without injuries and diseases is also important.

Rohit's wicket was turning point. 1) If it was a flat 400 pitch, I would have understood he needed to keep going with his 200 SR, but for this pitch, it wasn't required. Gill was already out then why to throw one more wicket and hope someone from middle order will save us? First match against Australia was the example, there can be sudden wickets and pressure (not to lose wicket pressure + final pressure) will be on team. Then it becomes tough to score even single run, eventually that happened. Just run a ball after 10 overs would have been sufficient for next 30 overs, and very much possible if we had Rohit and Kohli's wickets in hand. Once they get under pressure I am sure Cummins or Starc would have given you enough short ball to hit pull shot. 2) He has already been through this kind of situation in 2015, 2017, 2019. You can't trust Iyer, Gill or new players or you don't know how they will react if we lose sudden 2-3 wickets. It should be on senior players to play responsible and ask juniors to ramp up the innings, so even if they lose wicket, senior will be there to handle the situation.

Players like SKY, Gill and Iyer should get more matches in pitches like Chennai and Lucknow. Real test and challenges are there. There is no point in only playing in wickets like Wankhede and Bengaluru conditions. They were not tested on such challenging situation.

I was broken down watching Rohit cry and immediately walk away to the dressing room. He was simply sensational the whole tournament with the bat and also with his captaincy. He is an exceptional leader. He had put in all the efforts to see his team get through to the finals and the team just remained defensive and fearful all throughout the game after Rohit and Shreyas got out, succumbed to the pressure and failed on the big day. This loss will hurt big time because we were dominant, threatening and on top of the game except the main occasion. We peaked in this tournament, so you can't expect more from the team even in the future WCs, after having such an incredible tournament and still ended up losing. So, if not now, everyone would wonder when will we again lift the trophy. But let's believe and back our team. My heart goes out to the team, especially Rohit. Stay strong team and come back harder. We fucked up big time. Can talk about pitch being a factor but most of our players choked under pressure. That was the difference. Heartbreaking.

We didn't make Australia change their plan and we kept playing defensive cricket, that was where we lost the match. Atleast one of KL and Virat should've started attacking their 5th bowler, which would've made Australia rethink and change their plans. We let them execute their plans easily. Their plan was simple, they knew our batters won't go hard in the 2nd powerplay, so they let their 5th bowler bowl their overs from one end and one of their strike bowlers bowled from the other end. No matter how tough the pitch was, we should've taken risks and hit boundaries at regular intervals. 4 boundaries in the last 40 overs was just defensive approach and is totally unacceptable man. Post our batting innings itself, I guess Rohit was not 100% confident and we were completely on the backfoot. Only thing he hoped was to exert pressure straight up. For that, we had to start our bowling with a bang. But Australia scored 15 runs in the first over, they made Rohit make a move to get Shami in the 2nd over which impacted Siraj's contribution. We were already playing with 5 bowlers and hampering Siraj's ability with the new ball was just a masterstroke yaar, it was just like we were playing with 4 proper bowlers and defending a low score. Shami didn't look the same with the new ball, he was conceding lots of extras and Marsh thrashed him. So, this move impacted not only Siraj, but also Shami's performance. Had our first over went for under 5 runs, we'd have sticked to our plans and it'd have been a great fight from both Siraj and Shami. It was sad to see Rohit clueless and the lacking fire on the field was quite evident from the body language of the players. Poor guy, what else could he have done. Overall, it was a very sad day man. I don't have any words and I am just sad. It is so painful, I am absolutely shattered. I hope we comeback harder and win another ICC event soon, till then this loss will hurt big time man.

But, I have an observation that I wanted you to talk about, India U-19 team (men's) have won 5 world cups against Australia who have won 3. In these, India have defeated Australia twice in the Finals and one was played on Australian soil as well. Do you think having too much hype and expectations (which we generally don't see for the U-19 team) creates an impact for Indian Team especially in the knockout stages? What do you think are the major differentiating factors in Australian mindset and ours when it comes to playing big games under high pressure? What Rohit and Dravid learned from wtc failure? The thing is that we have beaten teams on batting wickets too with exceptional bowling, so why favor bowling now? Had this world cup favored bowling then we might have gotten used to difficult pitches to justify such a call in the final (had we gotten this far in the first place). But to choose the pitch by comparing who has the better bowling unit was wrong, you should always choose to play to your strengths which is our batting and our stroke players (but is our weakness too given such a situation). If we had a batting pitch, we could have won this game no doubt. I don't know if the teams knew or didn't know that it was going to be much easier to bat on in the 2nd innings, because having a batting pitch would have given the same result regardless, only difference would be that we would scored in the 300s and not 240 which would have aided our bowlers.

They played exceptionally well throughout the tournament, and even after losing, we couldn't utter a single wrong word for them. This was the best team so far, stronger than the 2011 team. It felt really disappointing. There was a lack of aggression, though Jadeja got a warning from the umpire, the whole team stayed calm, except for Virat who was a bit aggressive. Before the match, they mentioned Australia's good record in knockout matches, creating unnecessary fear 😨 in subconscious mind. Pat said they would silence the crowd, and they did. If they had scored a few more runs, Shami, Bumrah, and Kuldeep could have finished the match in 30 overs. The fielding wasn't aggressive, and their plan to dip BREAD 🍞 in tea failed as they lost the cup 🍵. Despite not winning the World Cup, they were a world-champion team. It was really disheartening 😢 that they lost the final. The crowd should've directed their energy at the Aussie fielders instead of only mocking Pakistani players. They were little conscious after that but then they started dominating us with 4 and 6s which actually broke out confidence whereas after three wickets fell we played a totally defensive game that did not score any boundaries which made them dominated.

Aakash sir, I've 3 points in my mind which I think should be addressed or we can learn from this final defeat. 1. If we look back at the final winning team of 2007, 2011 or 2013, there were left hander batsmen. Obviously, we can say that instead of all right handers in this team, our team was doing great, which I agree, but when situation gets tight, it becomes very easy for the opponent to put pressure on our batters, no field movement, nothing to think much, similar kind of deliveries and momentum never shifts which makes the tight situation even tighter. 2. If we look at this Australian side, we can easily say that they prefer form and experience equally. There were a total of 7 players in the XI who were also part of the 2015 world cup squad. Again, do you think Dhawan and Bhuvaneswar Kumar should be preferred over Gill and Siraj? I can understand that the form in which Siraj was before world cup, it could be very hard to think of Bhuvi, but if the mindset of experience was there, then atleast a thought could have been given for Bhuvi, same goes with Dhawan vs Gill. 3. My 3rd point is about starting with Shami in the final. I remember IPL 2019, where MSD sticked with Shane Watson even after a poor run and in the final, Shane Watson paid the faith. Again, Siraj might not have picked 2 or 3 wickets in the PP, but bowling 3 odd overs in the PP, picking even 1 wicket and then Shami's spell ending around 14th or 15th over could have put Indian team in a better situation. When India started with Shami, first of all Siraj's confidence was totally shattered and when he was being introduced in the 17th over, it was like playing with only 4 bowlers. Secondly, if I were in Australian side, even after losing 4 wickets in the powerplay, I would know that we've played 10 overs of their best bowlers, so I would not panic. That trick of introducing Shami could have only worked if Bumrah and Shami managed to get 5 or 6 wickets in the powerplay itself, which was a very optimistic approach. Anyways, I'm not criticizing Indian team, I'm super proud of the way they played the whole tournament, but these are the things, Indian team should definitely think about going forward in my opinion, and please do let us know what you think of these points. We lost when rohit gave second over to shami and 17th over to siraj. The swing was same like sri lanka match. Siraj would have been very dangerous in powerplay against head and he was the only bowler who tried to bowl bouncers against head.

wc was in india, we defeated all teams in one sided match. our 8 players were in their supreme form whereas aus struggled against afg, aus struggled against sa in sf, they were defeated by ind in league match, their middle order was weak, their fast bowlers were not performing to their best, they were playing against a huge host nation, the crowd was against them. This was arguably the best team India ever, we were favourites, no one thought of losing, we were discussing about close win or one sided win. And all of a sudden aus handed over a dominating one sided defeat to us. Things to learn from this tournament: 1. Aus is tier 1 team, Eng, Nz, SA are tier 2 team, pak, afg are tier 3 team, rest all are tier 4 team. To win WC you have to overplay Aus, You have to prepare day and night to beat aus. Aus is and should be the template for us and we should do our best to lift our game. 2. no matter how you reached sf, the most important thing is to perform in knockouts. we should change and test our squads during league stages. playing same team makes opposition comfortable and we become predictable. we should develop 2-3 game changing bowlers and allrounders. changing team and testing all 15 players will give us our right playing 11 before sf. 3. Give chances to new players. this may be the last WC for rohit sharma, virat kohli. this is the time to make a young india like what we have done in 2007 t20 wc. a new young captain, new openers, new middle order, new set of bowlers, new allrounders, new spinners. yes we will perform badly initially but for long run t will benefit us. we are worshiping rohit virat hardik bumrah. this culture worshiping should stop.
