If you are currently a home dj with asperations to play in public then label the ripped tunes in the comments column of dj software. That way later you'll know you need to get a quality copy if you intend to use it in a live set. Love the vid Phil. I got past 'security' of some record pools just by putting my personal twitter and KZfaq accounts and made up some gigs. They are obviously not checked. 😁😁

1. RIP the song from KZfaq. 2. Download the free version of FL studio 3. Export your downloaded song to FL Studio. 4. Adjust the frequency higher. 5. Save changes to an MP3 format/320mbps/32bit rate/ (do not save the project) just save the changes. 6. Enjoy your new club ready ripped track from KZfaq. (Wink) 7. Yes, it does improve the quality and you wont be able to tell the difference of that of a paid track.

I always suggest double or triple-checking your Shazams, because the app isn't always correct. I usually Shazam once and then immediately Shazam again -- if it registers the same song twice in a row, you're in the clear!

Man, my husband bought me a pioneer ddj 400 and obviously had no idea what else would be needed and honestly, I’m so discouraged by this process. I feel like the music I like is so obscure and all the tunes I dream of mixing is going to be so difficult to do 😖 I’ve dreamt of doing my own mixes for so long but damn, it’s definitely a skill set and you have to be hella committed! I have even more respect for djs now which is saying a lot. I’m not giving up tho!!!

I don't know if its different in the UK but in Beatport in UK you can't sort songs by key you can filter by key though clicking on key on a song list will do nothing you can only sort by title / label / genre and release date. Filter (only show specific results) Sort (show entire list but in order of selected parameter)

Hi Phil, I just viewed this video for the first time today. The question I have for you is: I want to get into being a DJ as I am a professional musician already and know DJ'ing can add to my income. I only want to do parties, weddings and non-club gigs as some of that music drives me nuts as a musician. But, as a beginner I am looking to build the music library but what I am seeing with some of these pool services is just music only going back to a certain year (like the early 2000's). If I want to have good quality music going back to the 50's, where do I get that or start? I certainly cannot afford to go on iTunes and download like 1000+ songs of all the favorite dance hits as my budget does not allow...Or, is that the only way? Thanks for your help, --Vince

I have a question, if there's a song I can't find ANYWHERE, with the exception of 1 place and that is the Amazon UK site. And I am in the U.S. is there a way I can access the UK version of Amazon to pay for it and download it? OR would you mind if I gave you the .99 that it costs and buy it for me and email me the song, I am willing to pay for it but I honestly have no idea on how else to get this song. I have been searching for the song for YEARS but can't find it.

FLAC OR WAV. These formats take up more storage than an MP3. But in this day in age....storage is CHEAP. If you're computer is limited, go buy an external HD. I prefer this route regardless because one should never clog up their internal hard drive with music. Its an extremely limted way to go- not to mention, is going to slow down your processor and thats the last thing you want when you are performing a set or a show. But above all, why compromise sound quality just to have a smaller file (mp3) when as I said- if you're going to DJ-even as a beginner- you should already invest in an external HD anyway so that your software programs can be utilized smoothly. When you're maxed out with storage space...trying to DJ will have your songs playing choppy and/or delayed at times. ESPECIALLY IF YOUR RUNNING A PC WITH WINDOWS. Personally a Macbook has always been the way to go with me as a DJ. I will NEVER GO BACK. Lastly, make sure that the software and or controller can identify and read Flac and wav files . Most will at least be able to read mp3 and wav. But if all possible, go with FLAC, then second choice WAV. If you must go with MP3, let that be your last option.

So is it bad if a dj plays other djs music? For example if you play Alison wonderland or zedd. I know I’ve heard djs at clubs do it and it looks like they are pushing buttons but I can’t tell if their changing the original song. My overall question is as a new dj should you avoid doing this?
