In Australia and other countries using polymer banknotes are recycled into other plastic products after its lifespan of 6 to 7 years under normal handling conditions.

Part of my job is sorting through money and removing damaged bills (to be sent to somewhere else to be destroyed). Since my country changed to plastic bills, dealing with cash is infinitely better. Handling plastic is so much better than dealing with the "paper" style bills. Many old people prefer the paper, complaining that the plastic sticks to each other and rips easily. And as someone who physically touches thousands of dollars per shift, I can assure you plastic has my preference.

"Plastic" is just a quick term as the money is actually polymer in the same way "paper" money is mostly cotton. "Polymer banknotes last significantly longer than paper notes, causing a decrease in environmental impact and a reduced cost of production and replacement". The "plastic" notes have a much smaller footprint than the "paper" ones.

In Australia, we invented the secure bank note. It lasts a very long time, it is almost impossible to forge because it is made of plastic and has a clear plastic window in it among other amazing features to make it secure and you can't tear it.

Before you discount the Aussie banknote, try stepping past your ignorance and looking into what it is. Our banknotes in Australia are the most secure in the world with over 10 security features. A dollar is 371.25 grains of silver (1792 Coinage Act), and money is good and silver per Article 1 Sec 10 of the constitution, that is why the word money cannot be printed on a Federal Reserve Note. Sad that sophisms such as this video make major media sites that misinform with incorrect terms.

Given that the soil produced saves our native soils, conserves an absolutely unique habitat in the Pontchartrain Basis and her estuaries from excess fertilizers, herbicides, miticides, fungicides, and pesticides, and soil is not a renewable resource, taking thousands of years to develop, then yes, priceless, at least from the perspective of conservation of natural resources.
