A decade ago, “Balloon Boy” captivated America as people watched what they suspected was a boy trapped inside a large helium balloon flying alone over Colorado. It famously turned out that little Falcon Heene was inside the family's home the whole time. Now, he's a teenager with a job and a bass guitar. Falcon and his two brothers are homeschooled and help their dad flip houses and play together in a heavy metal band. "It wasn't a hoax, there is more to the story," Falcon told Inside Edition. #InsideEdition

That's a sound edit by ABC. In the actual footage the dad is swearing his ass off at the kids and family for not securing the tether. It's only later after the kid says a bunch of other dumb things that he gets the dad's attention with that quote way after the balloon is in the air. So actually in the right context the audio makes sense. Watch Internet Historians video you'll see more of the original footage.

@@xeibei4804 well for starters the average weight of a 6 year old is around 45 lbs or 20kg.And the volume of hydrogen or helium giving the benefit of the doubt wouldn’t be enough considering 1)The balloon reached a altitude of 16000ft which is way too high as for the ballon to even fly in the first place would require the volume of the gas on the inside to be less than the atmospheric pressure 2)If he was in the balloon he would offset the mass by such a high amount it would actually have immediately swerved to the side

A media circus essentially ruined their family. I feel really bad for the dad, honestly. The media was saying it was a hoax, the public is now convinced it was a hoax, and the police forced a confession out of his wife by threatening to deport her if she didn't comply without a lawyer present. @@deandrea6686 The fact they have stuck together is amazing though. I honestly feel like there is alot more to this story then what the media reported. I don't think the parents were hungry attention seekers "doing it for the show" I genuinely believe that they were scared and frustrated parents, thinking that their son was up in a balloon and the insane ratings the media was getting due to the story made the push for the hoax angle even harder for the sake of viewers and money.

I remember that interview. Falcon clearly outed his dad when he innocently said, “we did it for the show.” His dad was obsessed with wanting to be a reality tv star so much that he emotionally abused his kids. Right after Falcon said that about a “show”, he started vomiting because of all the stress his own dad put him under. I wish shows like this wouldn’t give that drama queen the exposure he desires.

About a month ago, I remembered this story and wondered what happened to the family. It always bothered me when I thought about it how the kid wasn't found in the attic like that...I mean how does a kid within that amount of time stay up there without going to the bathroom or getting food? Of course he’s defending his dad. Most kids would. But it was crystal clear at the time that this was a hoax. The kid was upset during the interview when people were asking why he hid for so long.
