REAL WORLD RESELLING | SHOP WITH ME | ANTIQUE VINTAGE HAUL TO FLIP
To everything there is a season, and we’re looking for fresh stock for the fall season antique shows! So it’s off to the Tri-State Antique Market in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, where a regular antique and vintage show takes place on the edge of Cincinnati. I’ve been hearing great things, and even though it’s a late arrival, there’s still time to shop with friends and then film!
Real world antique shows are becoming the bastion of certain kinds of merchandise as eBay forbids more and more categories of collecting. We find a sleeve of pinups (including someone famous!), see real police badges and buy another game that the online vintage market leader doesn’t allow anymore.
But what will we find at a new (to us) antique and vintage market? Wet weather may be dampening to the outdoor dealers’ spirits, but those bringing interestingly obscure pottery, badges of all kinds, elderly samplers and coverlets seem to be thriving! An out-of-place linen gives us World’s Fair bounty, and we find enough that we have to go back to pick up later…and then, we share the haul and talk about what we bought!
Here are some of the things we bought and saw selling at this big antique show and vintage meet:
Barn loft trolleys, washstand, Treasure Craft s&p, kraut cutter, platonite console bowl, Kodak Brownie, architectural remnants, formica table, Crisa glass vase, Fenton mulberry, Cambridge deco decanter, Eagles badge, factory pins, car badges, van and bus badges, ad paperweight, 1970s novelty clocks, PB tin, Cow Chow scale, geometric and fancy coverlets, samplers and needlework, Mission style shelves, Putnam die tins, novelty pens, Selden Bybee art pottery, Rookwood Pottery, MCM furniture, piano stool, appliqué, rocking horse, Cragstan Crapshooter, Dinky toys, Crosley and RCA radios, beer plaque, antique prints, antique miniatures, Roseville hanging planter, Hudson brochure, tole painted strong boxes, watercolor silhouette, Parisian ivory, desk set, die cut trade card, cola sign, fondue pot, Fenton ewer, Blendo glass sets, popcorn popper, clock compact, fairy lamps, computer tray, Carstairs White Seal tavern ad piece, Joseff of Hollywood pin, etc.

@@TheAntiqueNomad Posting this is April 2022, so not sure either of you will see it, but here in Pinellas County (FL) Honeywell has a large campus in Clearwater. I grew up with several friends who had parents who worked there. So on top of the tray just being a really cool piece to look at, it would definitely sell in one of George’s St. Pete spaces as a nostalgia item. Cheers!

George, thank you again for taking a look at our vase! We've had an antique booth at a mall north of Cinci for about six months. Needless to say, we're still figuring it out. Hi George, I love your constant message of playing fare with in your sellers community. With all the smoking and candles back in the day celluloid eyeglasses must have been a big risk due to how flammable celluloid is. Last thing, our brains need oil as I’m sure many of you know. Just picking the right ones is the key. No GMO’s or processed oils, like canola, corn or vegetable processed products. Thanks for another great lesson.😍
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad Жыл бұрын
Oh I never thought of the eye glasses, I bet that did cause some problems...safety wasn't paramount in a lot of decision making back then. I have been trying to avoid the processed oil better, it's in so much stuff but I won't do anything GMO so that solves a lot of that

Hey George! Yeah, eBay needs to add some feathers to their logo - they definitely appear to want to play mother hen, and actually seem to be trying to tell people what they want and don't want. That washstand was a nice one. I like the pull-out towel bar. I love the old architectural pieces. Like the Cow Chow scale! I have a question for you - are those piano stools, or organ stools? I've always heard the stools were for organs, and pianos had benches. I have an 1892 Mason and Hamlin reed organ, and it has the original stool with it. I love the ink well, with the desk set. I wouldn't have been just tempted - I would've got that. I have a fold-up cart like the one with the with the chef, except mine is black and has a 1950's style starburst on the top. Those fish candle holders were quite interesting. I'm not much for most of the California potteries, but I do like those. You got a great deal on the Jarts! That was a steal on the Northwood vase! Carnival Glass vases have skyrocketed in price lately. Love the Jayne Mansfield pinup! Who else was in the pinup packet? You got some fantastic items there! Thanks for the take-along!

Hi! I’ve always heard them called piano stools or piano benches, even though the pump organs usually had the stools. Might have been so christened later in time when pump organs fell from favor to make the stools seem relevant.I really thought twice about the inkwell set and should’ve done!
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS

@@TheAntiqueNomad Ok, just wondered about that. Mother had an 1892, Geo. P. Bent, mahogany, upright, orchestral grand piano, and it had a bench. It had all kinds of decals in it and was heavily carved. It was made for the 400th anniversary of Columbus landing in America. The thing took nine men to lift it - the back of it was solid brass...it was made to be heard over an orchestra. It had four pedals on it, instead of three, too. She ended up having to sell it, though - it was literally tearing the house apart. That inkwell set was a nice one, for sure. I've always really liked inkwells.

I always cringe a little when you share your knowledge about an item because I figure the vendor will be raising the price and it will reduce my chances of discovering a real bargain. However, are there actually times when you tell a vendor that an item is overpriced (say yes just to give me a little comfort)? Am also wondering if my expectations are wrong in expecting yard sales to be priced less than flea markets or outdoor events, outdoor events less than antique stores, and antique stores the highest. I also expect estate sales to have prices less than antique stores.

Hi there! I do realize more information can mean less profit, but there's so many different motivations to sell that I believe deals will always exist. Some people need to settle an estate now, so estate sales mean bargains. Some people don't care and give it away to thrift stores, so bargains will last there as well. Antique stores are more on average (because their dealers know more, pay more, etc.), but there are times when dealers retire/move, stores close, etc. where there are lots of deals. I do sometimes say on my videos that something is overpriced, or use a "nice" term like "fully priced" to get the idea across that it is at its maximum.
