Onstage at TED2014, Charlie Rose interviews Google CEO Larry Page about his far-off vision for the company. It includes aerial bikeways and internet balloons ... and then it gets even more interesting, as Page talks through the company's recent acquisition of Deep Mind, an AI that is learning some surprising things.

It's truly awesome to see someone in his position have the attitude that he does toward making the future happen. Unfortunately, it's still sad that there's no mechanism in place to socially connect either these people or similar resources with the millions of creative minds that would be the equivalent to Larry Page if given the opportunity.
@MatthewJPrice
@MatthewJPrice 10 жыл бұрын
Google can't afford to hire anyone and everyone that looks promising, so unless people were volunteering to work for free, he won't get all the smart people that want to work for him Todd McKissick. If however, people were provided for, say, with a GBI... well then hey may have tens or even hundreds of thousands of volunteers. Pick anyone with potential and let them show what they can do. I know I'd sign up if I didn't have any bills. I'd work for Google for free all day long.
@toddmckissick2931
@toddmckissick2931 10 жыл бұрын
That may be true, ***** but not everything can be done with just larger numbers of volunteers. Some solutions require very specific assistance. For example, maybe access to a certain lab is needed. Maybe it's connections to industry players. Maybe it could only take off if completed under the radar so it's not squashed by entrenched interests before it was commercial ready. Even my own solutions have garnered virtually zero 'non-close-friend' support because of the limited amount of technical information I could publicly provide to back up the claims made to elicit volunteerism. Take a look at www.indiegogo.com/mirrorsolar . That one raised a whopping $600 in 45 days of my heavy social promotion. (Granted, I'm not good at that!) I think the problem was/is that until it proves itself in the market, most people dismiss it as not viable. This would be the case for every great breakthrough in history as well, don't you think?

Larry makes a good point about companies. Too often we only view them as a way to make money for shareholders. But in fact they are so much more than that. Companies are an established way of human collaboration. If we can create more of them that work for good then the world can be a better place. I think some of Silicon Valley have this vision. Its good to know.

***** This man allows government agencies to collect our personal data despite a privacy agreement. He hangs his head because he knows it's gotten crazy and out of hand, why build a system to spy on everyone when everyone gets on facebook or google voluntarily? Most chess players, like me myself, now are very familiar with AI in chess programs. Not a long time ago machines used to be a challenge for us. We liked to watch our idols play the machines and win. Today, not even the best chess player in the world can beat a good chess program. Machines have become too good at the game. They are like gods to us now. We learn from them, we respect them, we love them. Its interesting to notice that, although they are not truly intelligent, chess programs have played the game in a highly creative style, showing us new ideas, point out problems with concepts that used to be dogmas in the chess world. You can learn a lot from machines in chess. They have revolutionized the play and opened our minds to fantastic ideas. Now imagine all this evolution happening in other aspects of life. I think artificial intelligence is our best chance to really change the world

If you are so worried about your data I will say stop using any service that uses internet. If you are on internet than you are sharing your data anyways. For the last question ' what state of mind or what quality of mine.. that serve you best.', Larry didn't gave an exact word as the answer, but in my opinion, according to this interview and some other Google history documentations, the most important mind for Larry is VISION, good vision for people's future (my idea, not sure). He always think of how to improve people's lives, how to help someones, how to get life better.... just because of the good vision, he tries to focus on the creation. He has already drawn a futue world with auto-things in his mind, now he is trying to realize them with google's millions of engineers. People hate Corporatism, not companies. If government were so limited that there would be no point paying it off (to assure future subsidies etc.), companies would have to please us, the public, their customers. Corporatism is unnatural and stifles development and the cause of the illness is big government. Government should be limited to judicially punishing crimes against persons and property, ensuring contracts are fulfilled etc., as in Libertarianism.

Enjoyed the conversation, very inspiring! Wanted to ask Larry if he'd had a particular event or series of events with a related theme that may have precipitated the loss of his voice? If so, perhaps working with someone specifically trained in psychosomatic induction / hypnosis might uncover the root cause and Larry would recover his voice. Come to think of it this is the kind of thing that Tony Robbins has had success with. Interestingly symbolic since communication and connecting the world is at the heart of Larry's mission. Wishing you all the best, Larry!

+Joshua Gihorski hopefully he lives a very long life.. technology is beautiful when we use it right.. it's incredible how a few people do so much damage in the world, world leaders aren't really leading anything but their self centered sickness.. people need each other. we have to look out for each other. this gentleman loves technology and I hope he's one of the people and not one of the blind..

Google has took over my life and I am frankly enjoying it. In their own way, I am sure that Google is changing the world towards a better future. I know that Google knows a lot of things about everybody but look at ALL the services they provide: Search, Android, Chrome, KZfaq, Drive, Now, Keep, Calendar, Contacts, Blogger, Google+... I use all of the above services and have no regret at all.

Undercover Low-Key actually your number of visionaries is inaccurate. There are only about half of the visionaries you think there are. Therefore, Gabriel is half way correct. Don’t believe me? Here’s the equation: 2/4=2.

Aloha!Brilliant! Although it would be more than wonderful if there were accual people to speak to when one is having problems with thier Android. Frustrating when sent to web-site and plenty of them,instructions are complicated and not in layman terms. Google+ has been more frustrating than anything because of this hole in direct communication. Kudos Larry! Great talk! Anyway way to fix this? Many others encounter same problem. Mahalo nui loa.

-Making information universally accessible (Support Multiple Languages) -It seems to me that Larry believes that in order to have really great customer-facing products, you need to have gather information from all over the world. Privacy, in his eyes, seems to be a mere illusion. -Privacy AND Security are inter-connected. You can't have one without the other.
