This song really hits home. When i was little, i remember my aunt would get drunk and wander off in the middle of the night and get lost in the desert. My parents would freak out and I never understood what was going on. She was gone for over 24 hours one time and i thought i might not ever see her again. Luckily someone called the paramedics. She had passed out in the middle of nowhere. She is now gone from this world, bless her gentle soul. I miss her more everyday. As i grew up, i started to understand more of what she must've been going through. I wish i could've talked to her and told her she wasn't alone. I just hope she has found peace now. I love you Crystal 💙

Am I the only one who feels like this song can hit so hard for the people that losed their family? But like, the people who have a family member that was kidnnaped, that just disappear without reason, and even with the past of the days, months and years, don't know where they are. They don't know if they were kidnnaped, if they ran away or even if they still alive. That never happens to me, but I like to investigate about that cases, so I feel emphaty, and hearing this song makes me want to cry, thinking in all those persons.

To me, this song has a very personal meaning. It sounds like the singer is talking about a girl that he loved, but she died, maybe committed suicide? That's why he wonders where she went, because he just can't understand why it happened. He is also depressed, and can't handle the fact that she is gone forever. "If you bled, I bleed the same." maybe he followed her into the afterlife... this makes me sad to think about. But this song comforts me, as I'm also struggling with negative thoughts, so this song hits me right in the feels.

This song does not get enough recognition at all. And I don’t care if it was made 3 years ago, it will still be one of the first songs I’d play when I’m in my feels. SYML, Where’s my love Après une introduction au piano très épurée, lente, et calme, un constat brutal, funèbre : « Cold bones, yeah that’s my love » Qui ancre deja l’ecoutant dans une perspective vide d’espoir : « Love » est morte, elle n’est plus que des os froids. Cette froideur contraste avec le ton doux, mélancolique et paradoxalement chaud de la voix du chanteur. A t il fait son deuil? Il n’est vraisemblablement pas dans le déni mais dans l’acceptation la plus détachée. La suite amène une couleur différente : « she hides away like a ghost ». On a l’idée d’un fantôme, d’un esprit qui persiste, mais il est en seule comparaison avec l’être aimé: « like a ghost ». C’est « she » qui se cache, et non son fantôme. Il y a une opposition déjà forte avec le constat sec du début : elle n’est plus que des os froids, mais elle se cache. Le narrateur n’apparente t il donc plus les os a l’etre aimé? L’avait t il fait pour se justifier auprès de quelqu’un? « Yeah, that’s my love » comme une réponse qui se veut fermée à un interlocuteur pour qui il ne veut pas développer? « Oui, et alors? » En tout cas, il est cette fois dans le déni puisque she est vraisemblablement morte, elle ne peut donc plus se cacher (genius) Vient alors le pré-refrain, avec cette question adressée à qui? : « Does she know that we bleed the same? » qu’on pourrait traduire, pas littéralement et en s’avançant un peu, par : sait elle que je souffre comme elle? Ou bien : Ignore-t-elle donc que nous souffrons autant? Une question qui, si on ne sait pas à qui elle est adressée (au narrateur lui même, a Dieu/au ciel?) est lourde de sens : Le couple n’allait pas bien, pour une raison inconnue, mais chacun gardait sa souffrance enfermée, ce qui comme on le sait, est contre-productif et souvent destructeur. A ce moment, le narrateur lâche pour la première fois son émotion : « don’t wanna cry, but i break that way ». Il ne veut pas pleurer, il veut surmonter, mais, à bout, il craque. Sa voix reste néanmoins douce et égale, comme une souffrance encore contenue : il a pleuré, il s’est senti brisé, mais il tient encore. Suit un passage musical, le même thème qu’au début, qui finit sur une note seule, comme un point d’interrogation. (La suite?/et maintenant?) Celui-ci débouche sur un autre passage musical, ou le piano (dans la version originale) est rejoint par un violoncelle. Le piano garde son thème, que le violoncelle marque à chaque temps par une note discrète en arrière-plan : une présence, faible mais bien réelle? On a l’idée d’une union, d’une danse des deux amants, la dernière? Est ce un souvenir que le narrateur mêle à son désespoir, une image tendre et sensuelle qu’il voudrait sauver, emporter comme le symbole de l’amour qui les unissait, qui les unit toujours? Le violoncelle accompagnera dès lors le piano, en prenant de l’importance au fur et à mesure, comme si le souvenir devenait réel, qu’il y avait une rencontre possible, encore une lueur d’espoir, finalement? (Or on sait que non, comme en témoigne la première phrase : il n’y a pas de suspense, on connait la réalité, de là naît le tragique de la situation) Le deuxième couplet (pas de refrain, la tension est montée, avec l’entrée du violoncelle, puis est retombée) apporte une nouvelle vision. Du temps (combien?) s’est écoulé, les pensées du narrateur ont évolué. La première phrase fait écho au tout début : « cold sheets, oh where’s my love? », mais une étape est franchie. Les draps sont froids, le manque est palpable, physique, et en devient insupportable. Où est elle? Tout le monde le sait, et peu importe, elle est les « os froids » qui reposent (au fond d’un lac?), c’est ce qu’il reste d’elle. Mais le narrateur reste obsédé par cette question. Où est cette personne qui partageait mon lit et le chauffait, où est elle à présent, que voit-elle, que sent-elle, pourquoi n’est elle pas là? Cette obsession se confirme avec la phrase suivante : « I am searching high, I’m searching low in the night », pleine d’émotions, avec un pic d’intensité sur « in the night », presque un appel à l’aide. Il la cherche en haut (idée de l’esprit, au ciel?) mais ne trouve pas de réponse dans ses prières, il la cherche sur Terre, en bas, dans la nuit ; il sait quelque part que cette quête est sans but, et pourtant il ne peut pas se résoudre à l’acceptation de sa mort. Il est clairement passé dans le déni le plus total, et ce ne sera pas terminé avant qu’il la retrouve, d’une façon ou d’une autre. Le pré-refrain revient alors, plus fort (le thème au piano reste au même niveau, une présence qui accompagne doucement le narrateur dans sa douleur, qui connait la réalité mais sait qu’elle n’y peut rien changer). Sait-elle que nous souffrons ensemble? est chanté avec plus de force que la première fois, comme une question qui revient dans son esprit, qui a visiblement de l’importance : nous souffrions tous les deux. La deuxième partie (Je ne veux pas pleurer, mais je craque) est plus calme sur la fin, une souffrance encore un peu contenue, peut être pour répondre à la question suivante, qui marque le début du refrain : « Did she run away, did she run away, I don’t know » Cette étape soulève une question : qui pose, justement la question : « A t elle fui, est elle partie? ». Un interlocuteur du narrateur, qui demanderait si elle est partie de son propre chef, après une dispute peut-être? Ou bien un questionnement douloureux du narrateur : M’a-t-elle quitté? A-t-elle mis fin à notre relation? (Ou bien un peu des deux, mais on imagine mal un interlocuteur s’enquérir de leur situation amoureuse à un moment si délicat, à moins que ce soit peut-être la police qui enquête, et cette question posée par un policier lui revient : Did she run away? A t elle quitté la maison? M’a-t-elle abandonné?) A ce questionnement, la réponse honnête du narrateur : je ne sais pas. Je ne sais pas si elle m’a quitté, si elle voulait en finir. On note évidemment une douleur dans la voix quand il avoue, impuissant, qu’il n’a pas de réponse. La phrase suivante, est, en quelque sorte, une réponse à lui même, et un appel : « If she ran away, if she ran away, come back home », presque un cri de désespoir : « reviens à la maison », mis en écho après une pause vocale et musicale, quasiment un chuchotement « Just come home ». Reviens juste. Rien d’autre n’a d’importance, reviens simplement. Le passage musical suivant met cette fois les cordes au premier plan, et les laissent développer une mélodie sur le thème inchangé du piano. La présence s’intensifie, en tout cas dans l’esprit du narrateur. Puis elles s’en vont totalement pendant le développement du troisième couplet, qui apporte encore un élément nouveau. « I got a fear, oh in my blood » : J’ai une peur, au fond de moi. La disparition des cordes symbolise-t-elle un retour à la réalité, la présence de la femme aimée qui s’estompe? La seconde phrase confirme les doutes : « She was carried up into the clouds, high above » : ça y est, le narrateur s’est résolu? En tout cas ce passage est chanté de façon poignante, déchirante : c’est la réalité, la dure réalité! Il faut y faire face et l’accepter. Le pré-refrain change les paroles et introduit enfin une proximité sensible : on passe au tutoiement : « if you bled, I bleed the same ». Il s’adresse directement à son amour : si tu as souffert, je souffre autant, je souffrirai comme toi. Proximité et amour tels qu’il y a identification à l’autre : nous ne formons qu’un, qu’une seule entité. « If you’re scared, I’m on my way » : tendresse infinie de l’amant qui ne souhaite que le bonheur de sa bien aimée, et ne supporte pas qu’elle aie peur, et ce même dans la mort. Il est « en chemin », il vient la consoler, c’est impossible mais il arrive quand même, peu importe : il sera là pour elle, c’est tout ce qui compte à ses yeux. A ce moment, on peut penser que le narrateur a bien conscience que son aimée est décédée, mais que leur passion est si forte qu’après tout, qu’est ce que la mort? peu importe, l’amour est toujours là, et avec lui, la tendresse et les promesses (Je suis en route si tu as peur). Elle doit forcément ressentir cela elle aussi, puisqu’ils ne forment qu’un. La musique gonfle, on la sent attirée vers le point d’acmé. Enfin, deuxième refrain. Un détail subtil, en plus du tutoiement, rend la complainte du narrateur encore plus tragique : « Did you run away, did you run away, I don’t need to know » : il s’adresse directement à elle encore, mais cette fois, à la question « a-t-elle fui, es-tu partie? », il n’a « pas besoin de savoir », il s’en fiche! Ca n’a aucune importance, seul reste : « If you ran away, if you ran away, come back home ». « Je n’ai pas besoin de savoir ce qui t’a fait partir, je n’ai que ce manque existentiel au fond de mon être, il me manque un partie de moi, tu me manques. Reviens à la maison, reviens-moi. » L’oeuvre s’achève sur un dernier soupir, une dernière volonté, un désir infiniment fort de retrouver sa bien-aimée : « Just come home », presque murmuré. La tendresse du piano seul clôt doucement le tableau, continuation résignée? Ou accompagnement final vers une rencontre dans l’au delà?
