factory in india to make the compact 25k car makes most sense- Announcement + building will take 2 years minimum. By that time (2025) the 25k car will be ready. Also India is not a bid premium auto market, but its a huge low cost vehicle market. Factory could serve all of south east asia, with similar needs, and maybe even japan.

In India, Tesla is a luxury car, the market for luxury cars in India is 30,000 cars. It would make no sense for Tesla to announce a new Gigafactory anytime soon. A $25k-$30k would increase the market somewhat, but not worth the effort to open a new plant where doing business can be very difficult. What India really needs is energy, a solar - battery factory would make more sense but it would still be a very difficult country to do business in. Not worth the investment.

Tesla will definitely need more factories even though Fremont is the only one near or at capacity. The legacy OEMs can't/won't see what's coming. But once Tesla fully transitions to the 4680 batteries and finishes streamlining their production lines, it'll be game over for almost all other OEMs. Only the OEMs who have approached the EVs from the software side will have a chance. I say this because after looking at what other OEMs have produced lately, only the ones doing it more from the software perspective are having any real impact. Building vehicles is the easy piece. Integrating the software to the same degree as Tesla is much more difficult. China and India are my top bets for the next factory location. Though I suspect that there will be multiple new locations being announced before the end of 2022. The new land in Berlin might be for an electrical storage facility with or w/o solar panels.
@billweberx

While I agree that software is the key to EV's, by no means is building vehicles the easy part. Musk will say that building them is the hardest part.
@vwasson6725
@vwasson6725 2 жыл бұрын
@@billweberx The legacy OEMs are however not giving the software aspect enough attention. Look at the differences between the OEMs who are on par or close to what Tesla has done with the software integration. Major differences between legacy OEMs and the other OEMs. Only the OEMs who build from the software up will eventually succeed. Elons saying is "prototypes are easy, productions are hard". Just slapping some batteries, electric motors, and a modified software package into the ICE designed vehicles does not put them on par with the EVs built with the software fully integrated into the vehicle. They're not call computers on wheels for nothing. Legacy OEMs are making cars that have computers....not cars that are computers on wheels. Yet anyway.

Brazil has the same tariff policy as India basically. But India would probably focus on Energy and Solar first, it’s a way bigger and faster growing market than auto. So maybe just 1 production line for Model 3’s. And yeah, Elon is vertically integrating so Indonesia and New Caledonia are mainly for mining. Given regulations and politics, the UK might make an offer. Another north-northeastern American plant maybe in the offing too. Do the map of where most likely customer volumes are on each market and in each segment and find the barycenter to optimize, that’s the way Elon would likely think about it... 😏

I like the idea of utilizing India for production of non-vehicle products. Power cells, solar cells and other items for which would equally benefit the Indian population more than a robo-car. India needs to increase their public well being not just make a few ppl rich -- which has been their M.O. for over 100 yrs. I would be all in favor of massive solar installations & solar manufacturing in india with the realization it will benefit & improve their population as a whole. A population using cow dung fires (a green house pollutant) would benefit more by bypassing the gasoline era directly to what they have most -- sunlight.

You know that Governments have to reduce CO@ emissions so changing you car fleet overtime gives them a credit in their targeted goal . As for Labour yes its dear here in Australia , but its no dearer than in California . If one follows supply and demand, you likely laid out the course already. 👍🏻 Yet, given the hostilities in the world, it would be logical for Berlin (Tesla energy) and Shanghai (Tesla personal transportation) to expand simultaneously. Texas (Tesla cargo transport) expansion only being hampered by progress in self driving vehicles and therefore less demand on replacing semi trucks. If I were to break things down a bit: Berlin focusing on energy, Shanghai focusing on personal transportation, Texas focusing on cargo transportation, Indonesia focusing on rocket transportation (given its vicinity to the equator needing less lift to pushing through earths gravity). It sounds like Elon is pushing outside the confines of Sovereign boundaries and making his vision truly global.

I think they'll be Australia, Brazil, South Africa. Trying to think of logical dispersement and buyers. Australia - ramping up what he's already got going on there and sell and export all around the Aussie shores. That would easily feed India as well until India drops the overall price per vehicle. Brazil - to backup the US factories running and being built AND again the basics of selling and exporting around the area. South Africa - could be a backup to the Germany factory as well as selling and exporting ... (You get the idea) Still also see one going in Sweden/Norway region and possibly one in the middle east somewhere. Lastly how much extra land would be needed to launch rockets from those areas? Not all that much. So each site could potentially also have launching pads. NASA did this very thing with their airports they already had. Now we can launch anything NASA from several places in the US. Elon is more globally ambitious so more launch sites around the world.

Australia is very unlikely. Australia does not currently manufacture any cars and total sales are only about a million cars a year. Export to India is unlikely as it would involve a 10,000 km sea voyage.

Not sure where next factory/ies go - Indonesia could be a good choice, and while India does not seem like a big market for selling, it could be low cost for making cars. I haven't heard much talk about Australia or South America (Brazil?) but they could also be candidates. One place surely NOT on the list - Russia - know what I mean?

Hummm.... Once the war is over and Russia is sent packing, that whole country will need to be rebuilt. Trillions will flow in from NATO countries. That might be the Best time to build a Future factory there. Not today as no one knows how long the war will last. But if he really wants to help the people of Ukraine, this would be the best way to do that. Want to Really piss the Russians off? Franchise Falcon 9 to Ukraine when peace returns.

Tesla needs to get into plastic recycling. One of its factories needs to be near that The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Many floating oil platforms should become available soon and tying 4 to 6 of them together to build a floating university/recycling/manufacturing plant should be priority No 1. Even if all he does is make open parking lot shades/solar collectors out of the stuff. Next Tesla will learn much from building a factory in India. A pneumatic/electric hybrid would be very interesting. Finally a Chinese factory that made Powerwall batteries; and, a solar carpet for house roofs would simplify and lower costs for Tesla roofs.

If the goal is to produce 20million vehicles per year ostensibly that would mean at least 10 Factories with a 2million per annum production. Texas, Berlin and Shanghai all have the ability to increase their relative production to in excess of 2million if not 5million vehicles because of the land available to to the relative sites. The key to this development though is all about batteries because as big as Tesla's goals are for Motor Vehicles their goals for the Energy Industry are way bigger.

Yep on Shianghi, 2.5 to 3 million run rate w/in year of part 2 opening. India? I'd consider offering opening a mini K-car sized one, solar and batteries for sure and they way lower taxes on Tesla imports. Plus... Put the right hand drive factory in New Zealand with a Starbase, build Raptors too. Right hand drive, export to India so they aren't importing from China. NZ is close to supplies, New Caledonia and Indonesia. And stable. To Indonesia offer a gigafactory for solar and motors. SpaceX will need them. Australia more batteries and solar. Berlin? The land they had was enough to build a second factory. WIth this new piece going all in with factories for all their products makes sense. Build solar and megapacks. More batteries. That and perhaps a demo for a compact efficient livable city? US? Build one in Flint. And solar. Expand Austin with a compact city. Move Model 3 from Fremont once Austin ramps on Model 3s. Build more Model Xs & Ss. Make them with 2 castings and structural packs.

Indonesia is a nobrainer. Tesla gonna build there a new factory. Im just curious how fast tesla can train their employees at other factories and send them to india and indonesia. I dont expect tesla to increase their usa production any further then currently known for at least 3 years.. maybe with another model theyll go for usa market to test how customers accept their new product before going international.

Take note that Philippines policy has changed regarding foreign investors of owning 100% of the investment. Philippine has a vast supply of seasoned highly technical labor, reliable English speaking workers and competitive pay rate. Philippine is located strategically within ASEAN nations. With the new infrastructures, new and upgraded world class airports and seaports, new highways and bridges, railways, 100% improved traffic reliefs, and developments of smart cities, new investors like TESLA would be greatly benefited from all the above mentioned business site features . Additionally, Philippines is the largest producer of nickel in Asia if not in the world, a major material in making EV batteries. Philippines has so many beautiful places for the TESLA employees to enjoy for their Rest and Recreation to recharge voiding the need to pay expensive travel expenses during pandemic. Furthermore, Philippines having enjoying 8% plus GDP economy, provides many more economic incentives alluring to other businesses having to do with TESLA.
