Do you want to know where to eat real Palermo street food in Palermo? Let me show it to you in this food tour through the streets and markets of Palermo.
We decided to improvise ourselves for a day as tourists in Palermo trying to show you what this beautiful city can offer as traditional Street Food and more.
Our first stop was Franco u vastiddaru in via Vittorio Emanuele, a famous place where you can taste the traditional sandwich with panelle and croquettes or the spleen sandwich which here we call ca meusa sandwich. After having tasted them both, we head towards the first of Palermo's three historic markets, La Vucciria. Here you will find everything from the stigghiularo who sells grilled kid intestines, to kiosks selling fried fish or arancini. But in addition to Street Food you will find greengrocers, fishmongers, butchers, spice shops, souvenir shops, clothes shops, etc. Leaving the market, the beautiful Piazza di San Domenico welcomes us where you can admire the church of the same name. We then walk along Via Maqueda until we reach the famous Quattro Canti of Palermo which symbolize the four seasons. A little further on we come across Piazza Pretoria with its beautiful and majestic fountain. We then reach another famous market in Palermo or the Ballarò market, here too you can enjoy delicious fried fish, stigghiola, typical first courses and much more. For example, we stopped at a kiosk and bought a delicious arancina with butter. It was still very hot, which I must tell you, it was delicious. Before leaving we came across another kiosk where they sold the sfincionello which is a kind of very spongy deep pizza, topped with tomato, onion and breadcrumbs. To help digestion a little at this point, let's take a nice walk and thus reach the beautiful cathedral of Palermo which very well reflects the mixture of various peoples who have inhabited this beautiful city. But after having rested a bit, hunger made itself felt again, so we decided to stop and enjoy a delicious Sicilian cannolo obviously with ricotta. Let's say that the day could only be concluded with a dessert. Now finally satisfied, we continue our tour towards the last market in Palermo called the Capo market. Here too you find mostly the same things that we have seen in previous markets. Once out we head towards the beautiful Teatro Massimo where we make a short stop sitting on its steps and finally we head towards the Politeama with its beautiful square. Now tired, full but satisfied we are ready to leave the beautiful Palermo to return home. Hello Palermo and thank you for what you gave us on this beautiful day. See you soon
