The order is wrong. You should before do anything should see your Doctor to see about your Health for driving. If your on certain medications you cant drive period so why go waste your time for nothing? Next should be the criminal back ground check. If you dont pass this then your wasting your time on buying a truck first. You never know if someone has stolen your Identity and used it and there is a bunch of crimes with your name on it. While were on crimes, some crimes that are even Misdemeanors might not get you the job because there considered just as bad as Felonys. How about simple assaults, breaking a restraining order, D.W.I., shoplifting, insurance or welfare fraud? So these do effect you getting your license also. State of New Hampshire has a Habitual Offender law, after being certified as a Habitual Offender for Driving you get caught its 1 to 5 years it's a Felony, but it's not a Aggravated Felony, so these are the the first 2 I would do after you pass them then you can go down the list.
@JimGetten
@JimGetten 5 жыл бұрын
Use Experian to protect your identity and check if someone has stolen it. It's very cheap and keeps you posted on your credit score and any possible problems.
@jorgedacosta8957
@jorgedacosta8957 5 жыл бұрын
@@JimGetten True to never know about this. That's why you dont want to spend the money for this license and they denie you because you have a Felony on your Record, then you say hey that's not me. Credit Score, a criminal background check at your local D.M.V. some states call it Cory, etc. Someone if they did steal your Identity your screwed you have to hire a Lawyer and it's big bucks to fix this, then you try going for a loan for your business and they wont give it to you. That's why I said there was a different way of applying and seeing if your going to get it before you make to the D.M.V. check up for your Commercial license. You might be on meds from your Doctor that you cant get your license over them certain meds. Your own Doctor can work with you and see if there is a way to get your license. If your own Doctor said you wont pass the exam why even try to go see the State Doctor? So thanks for bringing up the point of Identity theft, you never know unless you check your own personal information.

The reason to get an LLC is so that at any point the company is sued that's where it ends; at the company. Without the LLC you are essentially a private contractor and opened up to losing EVERYTHING you personally own.

I agree!!!! God bless you for helping folks get started. I'm a CDL Class A driver for 20 years now. Currently work for Estes trucking, and I drive local only. Monday thru Friday. I only make 61,000 a year. Working 10 to 12 hours a day. I'm 62. Sounds like a great business to start, but I'm not sure if I want to do all that driving over the road at my age. My son has his CLASS A CDL. he's 40yrs old. He's looking into hotshot.

Lot of things he didn't cover here but I'll just run through them real quick you need chains binders straps you need tarps you need experience running load boards for at least back halls but the most important thing to have is customers so if you don't have them you really need a good sales team or some good Brokers that can bring on some contracts they already have but you need some sort of an edge that's pretty much it and you need to know how to play it smart and you need a good driver in your truck someone that knows how to maneuver and knows how to chain and strap and secure cargo someone that knows how to run logs correctly and one of the most important things is your insurance for your truck and trailer and cargo

I saw the landscape and wondered if you were driving in Texas and when I saw a highway sign for W82/N287 I realized you were in Texas. I drove to Kempner Texas at the beginning of February 2019 to pick up a 48ft flat bed trailer for hot shotting. We drove from Fallon, Nevada. I would say the biggest struggle is like you said a USDOT/MC # and also insurance. If you can get those done it really does pay for itself in the long run. Our area of struggle is finding an "office" due to the fact that interstate requires a office location open during normal business hours.

One more thing I have to add though, it's super important. If you are running anything over 26,000 lbs, REGISTER your truck for the maximum GCWR of your set-up! Combine both the truck GVWR and the trailer GVWR and that gives you your GCWR. Very important here. Most states will give you a tax violation ticket at the scales if you are over 26,000 lbs. It's a fat fine. Commercial Plates and a weight certificate. This will save you so much aggravation.

A MVR is required for any business, in the event that you get audited and you have to be able to prove the person is eligible to drive, even if it is yourself. To my knowledge there is no charge for getting that at your local drivers license office. Getting a TWIC is only necessary if you are planning to do a lot of port pick ups or deliveries. And it is an added expense, as is a hazmat endorsement. I always carry my passport, incase I needed to go into Canada, but that is because I already have one for travel to the Philippines. I've never been asked for either to go onto military bases. They just ask for ID, registration and proof of insurance.
