I am not a child, im 43, and I just started with discworld … and I don’t know why I did this, I read all the time big complicated very mature books (fake snotty tone) but I started off with The Wee Free Men. And I LOVED it! I really love reading children’s books every once in a while, good ones. And I guess I really needed something soothing and lovely in these horrific days (October 28, 2023. Hell.) . I listened to it, read by the wonderful Stephen Briggs. And now I’m here trying to figure out how to read the rest of these books. So thank you. I guess I’m moving to discworld for the next two years (so many books). Just what I needed.

You can't really go wrong when it comes to a starting point with the Discworld. It's all so good. The only mistake a person can make is to not start it at all. Hope you have a wonderful birthday 🎂

I always think about sir Terry as a distant uncle, whom I love dearly, but who is kinda weird, and so my family doesn't really visit him, but I spend my summers at his cottage going on adventures with him. Is it too strange? I mean... he's like Bilbo Baggins, in a way. I adore his books so much! Can reread them endlessly. Read all of them twice by this point. I'm so glad you love him as well.

The colour of magic remains my favourite. Admittedly, I'm only a few novels into Discworld, but the dynamic between Rincewind and Twoflower was perfection. It always hurts my heart a little when Discworld readers say Rincewind is the worst character. I love him!

Just what I needed to know. If this writer equates bullying with punching down, and satire with punching up, I just bought 3 more books, while pausing your review here to make sure I selected the right titles. I'd bought the first book in the series after you'd brought this kind and witty writer up a bit ago. That hat is a hoot.

Thank you For giving me a reason to read these, I found them today and a friend of mine gave them to me probably 8 to 10 years ago and they've been sitting on my shelf. I just didn't feel any pull to read them and you've given me a great reason to start. He gave me Color of magic Light Fantastic and Equal Rites. He really encouraged me to read them because he said that I was the kind of person that would really resonate with these books and this world.. Thank you for your wonderful review. I have subscribed to your channel!

Thank you so much for creating another wonderful video! Terry Pratchett and the Discworld hold such a special place in my heart, and I especially love the Witches because they are so relatable. Thank you for offering different starting points for jumping into the Discworld. This really helps, especially as I find it difficult to suggest where to start, so I will definitely be recommending your video to anyone who is unsure where to start with the Discworld. Plus love the hat!

'Small Gods' was my introduction to the Discworld and you rightly credit it as being one of the best, it's still one of my favourites (favourite books overall, not just within the Discworld.) 'The Amazing Maurice..' would be another good one for young readers to start with. That hat is giving perfect vibes for this video!

This video is so helpful! I am reading Pratchett's short story collection now "A Stroke of the Pen: The Lost Stories" and I am thoroughly enjoying them. They have piqued my interest enough that I want to explore the Disc World books; I am thinking I might start with the witches :)

I've been wanting to get into this series for years, but did find it quite overwhelming on knowing where to start. Everyone tells you something different. I'm also the type of person who would never typically read or watch anything out of order, it just hurts my brain and feels wrong. I started watching your channel back in December and you had made a video recommending Hogfather and that was my push to finally get started on the series. So a few months back, I did some research and made a list of the reading order. I ended up finding a youtuber named Unseen Library, who recommended this list, and had a good pitch for this specific order. So that's what I've chosen. I haven't started yet, but I plan to read the first 10 books this year, ending the year with Hogfather cause you had recommended it as a cozy Christmas read. I have read other works by Terry Pratchett and love him, so I know I'll love discworld. And almost all of these books are on scribd, so that makes it easy for me and my wallet. I can't wait to get started. Hoping this is a good order. Also, that is one of the most adorable hats I've ever seen.

I started reading the Discworld-series a little while ago. Going chronologically, and that works well for me, but it is hardly ever recommended. I knew going in that the first books were not the best, and that helped. Really enjoying it so far, and I'm only on "Wyrd Sisters". Granny Weatherwax is my favorite :)

Tiffany Aching is the protagonist of 5 books, introduced in Wee Free Men. i would call them YA rather than children's books but they are great for adults as well. i think Moist Von Lipwig is worth mentioning. He is in Raising steam, Making Money and Going Postal.

Having been one of those kids with an inordinately strong Warrior Cats phase, "The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents" was a great child-friendly starting point for me. Off to try "Guards! Guards!" now I can stomach a human protagonist in my old age tho, cheers!

I agree with your list, would just add one more starting point. That would be going postal or the moist trilogy. Specifically for people who are interested in the industrialization theme or in con man, this is another option to start, even though it spoiles some of the watch book developments. Love your content.

If you like fairy tails and witches: Wyrd Sisters is a great jumping off point. The book that introduced me to the series, Going Postal is I think an underrated starting point if you like a good redemption story. My personal reccomendation would be Guards! Guards! as I believe that Vimes is Pratchett's most well developed character.

I would pick Guards, Guards or Equil Rites. It's not as important where you start reading Pratchett as where you stop. The last thing he wrote that didn't read like increasingly bad fanfiction was Unseen Academicals. It's easy for me to say but he shouldn't have kept writing when the Alzheimer's really kicked in.
