Alghero is best. The old town is a fantastic place to be when the sun sets. Maria Pia beach is ok but the main attraction is the atmosphere of the city itself.

I will have a week (7 nights) to stay on Sardinia. There is so much to see around the coast of the entire island. Is it reasonable to try and drive around the island for a week's stay and see the sights? If so, any suggested locations to base myself as I travel around the island? Thanks so much for such outstanding helpful information!

Thanks for your kind words! It's a tricky question. I would narrow it down and maybe book 2-3 hotels in different areas. Sardinia IS a pretty big island, so I would be afraid I was putting too much on the itinerary if I were to drive around the whole island in just 7 days. I would probably rather ensure I got the most "bang for my buck" in the chosen areas instead of trying to see it all. Does that make sense? ✌️

Thanks for your comment. Hmm, I'm not sure if I understand the question, to be honest. Do you mean like the sunbeds at the beaches, or..?

@@destinationwellknown I read somewhere that this summer, because of the huge amount of tourists travelling to Italy, beaches decided to put a maximum number of visitors per day and if you want to visit a beach, you should book it and pay (?) 72 hours before. Is this right?

@@kfirml6702 Oh, I see! I haven't heard about that and didn't experience it in Sardinia this summer. I was also in the Amalfi Coast + Sorrento last summer, and it wasn't a thing there either, even though it's an area of Italy that is incredibly busy in Summer.

I have recently returned from Sardinia and did have to pay to go on one beach..... you could do it on the day though which we didn't mind. It was 3 euros each but meant the beach wasn't crowded and was super clean. @@destinationwellknown

Him thanks for posting this video. My wife are coming Sept 20th for one week. I realize theres not much we can see or do in one week so we fly into Olbia and are renting a car. I chose two places to stay. Saint Teresa Gullara for 3 nights and Alghero for 4 nights. We love old charming villages but we also love the most beautiful beaches and coves. I was thinking of going to La Maddalena by boat. I dont remember why we chose Saint Teresa but I am starting to think of changing that to stay closer to where we can get a ferry to La Maddalena I Wanted to ask you about this itinerary. If we want to spend our days out exploring beaches and coves and other towns. and we want to stay in the north and only want to book two hotels, what would you recommend. My guess is Olbia and Alghero. thank you

Thanks for your comment! To be honest I think you've chosen a very good "Northern Sardinia Itinerary" by staying on Alghero and Santa Teresa Gallura. The drive from the latter to Palau, where you get the ferry to La Maddalena, is only around 30 minutes so it's quite easy. I wouldn't change staying in Santa Teresa Gallura to Olbia tbh.
