Well in the original timeline shepherd is the leader of shadow compared to 2019 Graves and Lerch are the leaders. But Graves is CEO and Lerch next in line but we know there’s evidence for Graves being alive. Compared the Ac130 mission compared to the Ghost team mission. When you fire the ac130 you here the bullets hit the ground through tf141 and los vaqueros coms unlike in the ghost team where graves is “in the tank” but when you shoot at it. It doesn’t have the gunshot sounds on coms

I thought about this a few times by now. For me, it did not matter Graves in that timeline. Shadow was a important part of the original timeline, but not exactly him. Now, the reboot, they could insert a very important part from the Shadow Company to make a lore line more consistent, you know? To make the betrayal more realistic and more passionate (?) in that scene. And almost every player fell for it. (I was soo confused in that moment 😂) And that theory about Oxide being him. I like that.

They did bring back a lot of the old stuff from MW2 and brought it into the new one. Like the plane graveyard where shadow company and makarov's men are killing each other. That's literally shadow company and konni group rn. They been duking it out every time they come across each other. I guess they already know how they wanted to reboot the series since Cod WW2 and Advanced Warfare did a good job with their campaign cinematics and game style. They just needed some knowledge about how the military really worked and some new ideas. They just needed to come up with something new that will represent shadow company hq. And shre enough, they came up with graves.

The OG story will always be gold. But i like how in the new story, they added more details.

Tbh I kinda feel like it is still all the one timeline, so Graves is dead, Shepherd, with his connections at the Pentagon, pins it all on Graves taking things too far, and Shadow Company is "disbanded" Taskforce 141 stays under Shepherd which Price agrees if just so he can keep an eye on him, but The Taskforce is used less by Shepherd mainly just Soap and lower operatives, where Soap gains his commission as an officer, Price and Gaz go back to missions for SAS while Ghost tracks Shadow Company, the Bering Strait Incident happens Shepherd genuinely coincidentally has Soap sent back in time to be deployed for the mission making the FNG remakes about Soap more of a joke than being genuinely new, OG MW timeline occurs Price is MIA and Gaz KIA so Soap takes the helm of 141 after Ghost refuse because he doesn't trust Shepherd but given the nuclear incident his focus shifts away from Sheperd and shadow company just enough that Sheperd makes his plans with Makarov and OG MW2 happens. Keep in mind this is entirely reliant on the direction of the new MW3, but until it is completely killed, it is my working theory and leaves enough wiggle room for the changes in the OG MW timelines to fit in.
