Hi folks. Thanks for attending Thrive!. I'm very happy you had such a great time. I'm glad you mentioned all the topics covered especially the sessions and helps for dads. As you mentioned, homeschooling is often seen as a mom's job but it is the responsibility of both parents. Dads are particularly and specifically accountable to God for the character building and education of their children. We have been attending the NCHE Homeschool Conference (Thrive!) for about 25 years and I have always found encouragement and recharging for me as a father and husband. Thanks for posting this fantastic summary / testimonial about the conference.

Greetings from Wisconsin. Your homeschool conference sounds like the experience we had for many years. We went to the conference before we were ready to homeschool. We attended every year and eventually were asked to be workshop speakers. We participated in the state homeschool graduation and our son was a speaker at his graduation. An extremely valuable experience for the whole family. Our entire family has many fond memories of all those years. For any parents out there that are interested, are wondering, have questions, whatever it might be about homeschooling, attend a conference. You won’t regret it! Thank you Dickson family ❤️ for sharing this video.

What a wonderful organization/conference! The focus in government (public) schools these days seems to be more about political activism than reading, writing and arithmetic. I am also SO grateful to hear there are better alternatives to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Thank you so much! This was such a fun video. A few curriculums I have really enjoyed are: RightStart Math, Institute for Excellence in Writing, Winston Grammar, Center for Literary Education, Beautiful Feet Books (history and geography), Apologia Science for elementary and Real Science for Kids, All About Reading and All About Spelling. There are so many great curriculums out there that it is a bit of a shame to get stuck in a "boxed curriculum". Look at the background of the developer and see what makes them uniquely qualified to teach that particular subject. After 20+ years of homeschooling 5 kids, still have the last two in high school, I do not regret homeschooling one bit and am very thankful that I was able to find such inspiring curriculum. Have fun planning the new school year!

😅 Winston-Salem is crazy. Just because you can see your destination doesn't mean its close. All those one way streets downtown. I think we circled our destination 4 times before we finally found the street with the entrance to the building.

I just watched your latest video and when it came to try to get home it brought back an old memory of mine. Fortunately you both have a lot more patience than either myself or my late husband. We were lost in a city, I was trying to read the map, my husband would not pull over like I asked him to. He kept telling out street names, I got frustrated and threw the map out the car window. We got home somehow, I really don't remember the rest. It's funny now but IT WAS NOT at the time. Love your channel. You have a beautiful family. Thank you.

There are many homeschool conventions still coming over the summer. Look in your area and broader, if you are willing to travel a bit. If you are in NC there is a big convention in Richmond, VA June 6-8. That same weekend has one in Meridian, ID. Another big one in Ontario, CA and one in Denver, CO June 13-15. Round Rock, TX and Phoenix, AZ July 11-13. Atlanta, GA July 26-27. Most of these are much more than just homeschooling. There are talks and activities for all.

Need to include mandatory basic finance. The monthly payment of buying a new car absorbs monthly funds from the average individual American. Monthly car payment alone would be 400-600$; plus all other monthly payments. One trip to the hospital and the average individual would be totally screwed. That’s doesn’t include additional bills such as student loans, mortgages; retirement plans, etc. = negative balance = consistent paycheck to paycheck - forever!

Not the Public Schools job to develop your child's character. Teacher's have enough to deal with. Behavior problems, learning disabilities curriculum and making sure kids are ready for the next grade. Why is it teacher's have to do the job of parents. My dad was a school teacher for 35 years. He always said parents need to take some responsibility in raising their kids and stop putting everything on the teachers. I absolutely Loved Public School. Next parents will want teachers to teach their kids Sex education not a teacher 's job.

I am 100% on board for homeschooling if the parents are capable of doing so however I think the conference is like this are great for everyone my only I don't want to say complained because it's not really a complaint but not all families that want to homeschool are religious or Christians and I feel like Christianity is being pushed on homeschool families. Now if your religious I think this is a good thing but if that's not something that you are instilling in your children I feel like it's the same kind of indoctrination that public schools do with kids against what their parents do & want. Now I'm a type of person that I just looked past that type of stuff and look what's going to be the best educational thing for the child but not everybody is like that and I think because of that it excludes a lot of kids from going to conferences like this my point is it's okay to have all that stuff but you need to have some non-religious stuff there as well to make everybody feel it's not just conservatives that want to homeschool their kids
@MikeTheFitFarmer
@MikeTheFitFarmer 2 ай бұрын
I know there are plenty of non-religious curriculums out there. I find it interesting that you call someone teaching religious principles and values indoctrination. If you teach your child that there is no religion you are indoctrinating them with your own way of thinking. One of the big positives to homeschooling your children is to teach them to be critical thinkers so they can make their own decisions. ~Lacie
