For me when I see these on the shelf, they’re either 299 for the jack Daniels or 160 for the old Forrester. I am passing on both of those prices gone to my head though I would get the jack Daniels 10 year because it’s Jack Daniels and I’ve had better experiences overall with them versus Old Forrester as of late.

Thanks David. I would buy both at or close to MSRP but unlikely for both, especially JD10. I have seen JD10 for $300 and saw 1924 once for $170. Cheers!

Hey Keith! Oof!! $300 for JD10 is just crazy 😥. I'm hoping that the hype and FOMO will calm down on these bottles as it is a good pour but barely worth msrp, let alone in the hundreds. I know I'm part of the problem, but I'll probably pass up on batch 4 next year unless something changes. I know one person won't matter but if there are enough, maybe it will 😆. Hey Greg! That's OF Single Barrel 100 Proof (black label) is a great bottle and one I haven't been able to find in years! I found and finished a bottle like 2 years ago thinking it was easy to find... but was I wrong 😆. The OF1924 needs to come down in price and hopefully it does. Hey John! At those prices, you are wise to stay away if you know they are not within your palate profile. I will say the OF1924 is nothing like anything from the whiskey row series (1920 or 1897) and didn't give me any banana at all in the nose nor the palate. Hey Marvin! I think the narrative on the OF1924 has been a little too negative due to the price. I don't think it's priced correctly, but at the same time, it is a solid pour and one I'll probably go to more often than I think I should 😆. I do wish it was closer to the $70 to $80 range, but it is what it is. I truly appreciate you always viewing and commenting on my videos! Thank you so much and cheers~

Up in Portland, OR Old Forester is a lot easier to find. I was able to pick up a JD10 in Washington. Trying to to find a JD12 now…

Great comparison review David! I've been fortunate to have samples on both of them. JD10 is good,but hard to justify the price point for a low proofer and prefer the JDSBBP. OF1924 good,but not $120+ good, I prefer the 1920 or the SB. Between these two I woud go for JD. There's so much to choose from that I doubt I'll get them any time soon...well I say that now. 😆 Cheers bro! 🤙

Hey Jesus! I absolutely agree with you! Both are a good pour but just slightly overpriced. I went with the OF1924 due to the uniqueness and it is a little easier find alternatives to the JD10 than the OF1924. But can't go wrong either way 😆. Hey Thomas! Only good thing for the high price on the OF1924 is that there is no profit for "flippers" so it does sit on the shelves in some areas. It does sit on shelves in my area as well for a couple of days before selling out. But yes, it is too expensive and I believe a $70 or $80 would be better for what it is and give more people the ability to try this good pour 😆. This is a tough one, I have the batch 2 of the JD10 and love it, the 1924 is also fantastic. If both are at retail I would have to go with the JD10 🥃🥃 cheers David

Hey Michael! In a vacuum, I would probably have picked the JD10, but there are so many good alternatives to the JD10 (JD bonded, JD SiB BS, Knob Creek 12, etc.) that give similar (not same obviously, but familiar vibes?) profile but that OF1924 was a fun and unique pour with so much fruit. Either way, both are good pours and you can't make a wrong decision, but I just had to as saying both is good is not a fun video 🤣. Always appreciate your support with quick check in on my videos! Actually found a bottle of JD12 for $200 today that I passed on. Probably wouldn't have but my wife was me & are headed on vacation next week. I did pick a ASW Fiddler Georgia Heartwood store pick! Kevin

Both are very good pours...I like the OF 1924 a little better, but for the $ (value) hard to argue that the JD 10 is not the better buy. Can't loose either way...two solid bottles

The price is a sticking point for OF1924, but there are many alternatives to the JD10 while the OF1924 was unique enough for me with all the fruits that it was the choice that night. I'm sure I'll actually drink the JD10 more than the OF1924, mostly due to the price point and that it's a familiar taste. Well, it was a fun "battle" for me as like you said, can't lose either way 😆. The problem is finding either of these at a reasonable price, let alone MSRP. I'd consider either one at MSRP, but not anything more than that. I've had JD 12 and that was fantastic! I don't think I've had any Old Forester products yet though, so that would be a shot in the dark for me. My bourbon assortment has been steadily growing. I managed to get my hands on an older label Eagle Rare store pick and Stagg store pick at 136.7 proof in a trade off the bourbon forums. Both are from the same store Binny's beverage depot which is a chain in the Chicago area. I'm only about four and half hours from Chicago, so at some point I'd like to make a bourbon run down there. I also managed to source a few bottles of the older Brown-Forman black top Early Times Bonded. Unfortunately Early Times Bonded is not distributed in Minnesota or Wisconsin yet, but it is in Iowa and Illinois. So another reason for me to head down to Chicago. But it would be the newer blue metal screw top from Sazerac on the shelf. Benchmark is another one that is not in Minnesota or Wisconsin, but I haven't gotten around to checking which states do have it. But hey, we do get Old Grand-Dad Bonded ($23) and 114 ($21) so I have to be thankful for that!

Hey Meta! That is very true that finding these at reasonable prices is the problem. Hopefully the OF1924 will be available like the 1920 and 1910 soon (and prices come down as well 😆). Bigger cities seems to get better allocation, obviously due to the larger population, but also due to the population being more diverse in their alcohol drinking. Here in Southern California, due to the large population that drink non-bourbon alcohol (wine, tequila, vodka, soju, sake, etc.), the bourbon allocation is much better here than it seems most parts of the country. I'm sure Chicago is the same way. Hopefully when you do take the time to go down there, you'll get rewarded with some awesome bourbons! But saying that, I don't get Early Times BiB here as well 🤣 Always appreciate your support with quick check in on my videos! Have a wonderful day and cheers~

Nice review! I’ll take the Jack Daniels 10yr everyday:) I picked the 10yr up at BevMo for 85.00 and passed on the 1924 that was 140.00 I also found a 10yr at the local Fastrip for 95.00 which is better than all the liquor stores that want 499.00:(

Hey Nick! JD10 is a good pour and I would say it's probably a "better" pour than OF1924, but the uniqueness of the fruit forward experience is hard to find alternative so I choose that one 😆. You can't go wrong either way and let's hope both of these become more available soon so we can all make the decision ourselves without making up scenarios 🤣. I really like your channel man - well done again! The problem is that both bottles are extremely hard to find in the DC metro area - I have the JD10 from last year that I dig but I hear the 2024 release is better. Hopefully I can get these at some point!

Hey Paul! For me, the JD10 from last year and this year (batch 2 and 3, respectively) are about the same. Maybe I'll do a blind just to figure it out for fun, but they are really close so if you had last year's, it very similar to this year's. But yes, the problem with JD10 and OF1924 (along with many other limited or special releases) is that they are so hard to find. I love to hunt so I do get to find it at reasonable prices, but if I consider all the time, effort, and money, it is a ton of investment to do so 😆. Luckily, I still enjoy the hunt but we'll see how long that lasts. I super appreciate you watching and commenting on my video so soon after launch! Thank you so much and cheers~

We were lucky to grab the jack 10 batch 1 a couple years ago.. . And picked up batch 2 at a raffle last year. We still have 3/4 of batch 1 and havent opened batch 2. We also were lucky enough to get 1924. We sampled some out and blinded it multiple ways during our review, and still have 2/3 of the bottle left. We havent actually touched either now - jack 10 in like a year, and 1924 for a couple months. Neither are bottles we reach for, so i dont think either are worth the investment! Nice to have on the shelf, but in todays market, is any bottle that sits on the shelf for months at a time worth spending your money on? As always, thanks for the great video!

David, I found your summary of "would you buy again" interesting. I have said in the past that the JD single barrel barrel proof offerings are one of the best buys in the Brown Foreman lineup. If these two bottles ever come down to msrp I will buy them both just to say I have them on my bar. But until then... Dana

I think that what you are saying, which I suspected anyway, the special releases are not “that” special. It is the genius of simple marketing hype. I’m a JD man, and buy the barrel select all day long for $50.00, and it kicks butt.

I like the JD10 but still haven’t tried the OF. Would I buy it again probably not. I’d rather buy another bottle of Weller 107 or any shelf bottle of Redwood Empire.

I never see the JD 10 out there. But have passed OF 1924 several times. It has to be an extremely good bottle at that price point for me to buy. This just doesn’t fit that bill. Appreciate the review

Hey RJ! Yeah, one of the main reasons I picked the OF1924 was the allocation and that it is more "findable" than the JD10 and should be easier to find going forward. Obviously the price point is not great and hopefully they revise or change that for future releases. I hope you do find a JD10 very soon at a reasonable price 😆. I don't know about voice of reason but a voice that was a little drunk due to having two good pours 🤣. But both are a little too over hyped and definitely a little too expensive. I won't be replacing both bottles and will probably need to skip on batch 4 of the JD10 unless something changes (price goes down, proof goes up, etc.). Have you tried them? But it is a odd thing, since OF1924 is expensive at retail, it seems to sit on shelves longer than expected as "flippers" are not rushing in and buying it all up. JD10 all day if I had a choice, not even a question! I had 2 opportunities to buy 1924 at MSRP, but passed on it because of the price. I’d rather hunt down the OF Black Label 100 proof Store Pick for 1/3 of the price. Luckily I was able to score a JD10 at MSRP this year, still can’t find a 12 for under $300

I agree with the OF Single Barrel 100 Proof (black label) and that is the one to hunt down and not the OF1924, but I'll be honest, that OF black label is impossible to find, much harder than JD12 for me 😆. I picked the OF1924 as it is a unique profile as it doesn't remind of anything from whiskey row series or Old Forester in general. The JD10 is better, but it is also harder to find and it is easier to find alternatives or similar profiles as I mentioned in the video. But I'll be honest, both were fun to drink and I'm glad I got to try them 😁. I hope you find your JD12 at a reasonable price! Same here, still haven’t seen a black label yet! I did hunt down a backup bottle of JD10 yesterday tho! If you are in the Anaheim area, check out Hi Proof Whiskey & Wine & Spirits in Fullerton. The owners are super friendly and the selection and prices were phenomenal, great little honey hole in SoCal!

@@WhiskeyBank best prices I’ve ever seen on 95% of their selection. The owners are Korean and were super friendly too. Business seemed a little slow for them, so I posted on FB, IG and Yelp to help them out. It’s rare to find a place that has a great selection and great prices, and I want them to do well so they stick around. The only problem is that I gave up my new secret spot, but I feel like it’s good Karma to help support small businesses like them.

I've heard great things about JD 10 though I just opened a bottle of JD Single Barrel from years ago that was gifted to me that was somewhat disappointing and most amazing I have a recent Jim Beam single barrel Beam my least favorite product on the market and a friend and I liked this recent offering better than the old JD Single Barrel, in other news I got my hands on a Blanton's for 80 bucks,got a call from a friend said limit one hurry and I did,I got the last bottle at 10 :00 in the morning along with a Eagle Rare for under 50 that's a good day.🥃

Is the price too high? If it is there would be a bunch on the shelf and no mark up in secondary. Supply and demand. I’d rather pay the maker more than the secondary

That is a benefit of the high price point for OF1924 as many "flippers" are staying away and it does sit on the shelves here for at least a couple of days before it sells out and people who actually want to drink it have a chance to buy it. Of course, just based on the experience (nose, palate, finish), I still think $120 is high and hope it does come down a bit ($80 ish). If it’s selling out in 1-2 days, why would they decrease the price? Look at Blantons. Mediocre juice but sells out.

@@johnrodgers6049 The OF1924 is selling out now as it's the new shiny toy, but I believe once the shine wears off and there are people like me who do not plan to replace my bottle at that price, it will sit on shelves more and more.

JD10 msrp is far cheaper, ergo I choose JD. I wonder how 1924 compares to OF barrel proof.

JD10 msrp is cheaper, but for me, it seems I can find alternatives to the JD10 but the OF1924 is a unique experience with so much fruit that I would choose the OF1924. OF is so over priced and such a bad value. Wouldn't buy it on principal alone. OF is price gouging and it's almost as bad as the prices from some of the wild turkey offerings!

Hey Jesus! It is odd that Old Forester decided to price this so high when most of Brown-Forman's offerings are reasonable at retail price (OF whiskey row, JD barrel proofs, etc.). Hopefully this is just a one off bottle and not a trend Old Forester or Brown-Forman continues to do 😆. Greatly appreciate your support with a quick check in on this video! I’d go JD 10 OF 1924 is just overpriced for what it is. Personally I’m going Russell’s 10 year over this just on cost. I can get Three Russell’s for what this cost.

Hey Scott! The price is a firm downside to the OF1924. Only good side to the price is that it is so high, there is no secondary market so it does sit on the shelves for at least a couple of days (in my area) as no "flippers" are buying them now 😆. Maybe that was their goal? Hopefully the price does come down as it is a unique and good pour and a bourbon worth a try. Thanks a million for always checking in quickly on my videos! I’m still searching for the 1924 for the exact same reason you stated; I want to try it for myself. I’m not paying secondary inflated prices, but I’d pay up to $130 just to have the bottle on hand. I’ve certainly made worse decisions before.

I think it is definitely worth to have it one time and a nice bottle to have to, not only finish the whiskey row series, but it is a unique pour with lots of fruit, which many bourbons don't offer. I recently saw a 1924 for $130, had a $25 coupon and I still passed on it because of the lukewarm reviews. As for the jack 10 year. I have yet to see it under $250 which makes it a hard pass. Even at msrp I would most likely pass. This year is all about maximizing the value of the whiskeys that I buy. Thanks for the honest review!

Saw a KZfaq review yesterday that said the 1924 is "watery." I haven't heard *that* about JD10.

Hey Glen! Yeah, the secondary and how hard it is to find the JD10 is a real big downside to it. It is a good pour for sure but not worth the time investment to hunt it down 😆. This is almost unfair. The JD10 wins every category hands down. 1924 isn’t worth the price at all.

Luckily for Old Forester, people's palates are different and I found the OF1924 fruit forward nose & palate to be fun, unique, and smooth pour. I agree with you it's not worth $120 MSRP, but I would probably buy a replacement if it was $70 or so. I also like the JD10, but for me, it wasn't head & shoulders better than OF1924. But if you like the rich oak, dark sweeter flavors, JD10 has that while the OF1924 does not. 😆 Thank you so much for your view and comment! Super appreciate it and cheers~

@@WhiskeyBank if the 1924 was 80 it would be good. At 115 or more it’s extremely disappointing. Thankfully a friend bit the bullet and I didn’t waste my money.
