6063 , is usually used for extrusions, like window frames, beams, etc. It is also used for roofs and such. It is easier to weld it too. It isn't the strongest one, but it is easy to work on site, and easy to anodize and create smooth finish.

Excellent!!!! This is exactly the info I’ve been looking for. It was concisely explained and the chart was perfect. Now I actually can start my research.

I go to the metal Supermarkets of Dayton Ohio, a few minutes from my house. They are by far the best and most accommodating supplier I have ever dealt with. I believe all other business worldwide could learn from metal Supermarkets business approach and delivery of product! This is not a paid advertisement, I speak on my own from a guy in his shop with his own welder trying to make a living welding. I’m happy every time I do business with them!

Much appreciated for you making this video. I saw an black aluminum shield on Amazon. Now I am interested which grade they used. The sellers it's getting back to me. But their sir/ma'am it's perhaps 6000 and up. Still I want to take pride owning it. Just like Japanese knifes.

you missed the most important freaking part. The relative price and availability. ONe can get extruded 6061 or 6063 in tons of sizes. try gettign square tube in 7000 series aluminumand expect to pay 12x the price. kind of important to know which alloys are " normal" vs aerospace type prices.

Alloys. Not grades. I think grades are how close specific alloy is to spec of this specific alloy. Low grade 6061 will be somehow loose and have variations in quality and composition between samples, high quality will be very pin point composition. In some other metals like Titanium, alloys are actually called "grades", which is weird, but it is what it is.

a good 2 part adhesive. Devcon 2 ton is good stuff. G-flex is what I currently use. If there is any way to scuff the surfaces that will be joined, that will really help the bond. Needs to be properly cleaned too, alcohol or acetone work well.

Eh, I want to know if they're weldable and if so, would it reduced it's strength?
@mattn.8941
@mattn.8941 2 жыл бұрын
I believe welding heat-treated aluminum will bring the welded areas back to their untreated state, so they would have to be heat-treated again. I'm not an expert though. Some aluminum alloys (like 5xxx) can be welded more easily than others (like 2xxx or 7xxx).

Why is the range of aluminums used for aircraft so many different types.im assumimg different parts. Are made with different classifications.does anybody know the reason for this and or does anybody know where to access a chart stipulating what grades are commonly used
@jonathanchark5291
@jonathanchark5291 4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what type of service the particular part will be put into. Stronger grades are used for structural parts like framework and such, weaker grades for internal paneling, decor, cookware,containers, etc. Corrosion resistant grades for the skin and fuel tanks, etc. Just depends on what requirements are needed and how much they're welling to pay for a particular level of performance.

6063 is the most common alloy for heat sinks since it can be extruded into the fin shapes easily. there is a company I think in vermonth that makes them in teh USA and of course you can get them dirt cheap from china.

He wants to gi aluminium ( no rust properties ) Special project for him. You will go 18 gauge sheet metal ( cold rolled ) can rust quicker but easy to weld and 99% jeeps done with this . 18 gauge is .050" thick.

If I was going to build an aluminum structure (both framing and walls) which needed to stand up to very high wind pressure. Which grade would be best?
@blackburn1111
@blackburn1111 3 жыл бұрын
Probably 6061...2024, 6061, and 7075 are recommended for structural applications. 6061 is the most commonly available aluminum and can be found in a vast number of types of extrusions. It's also cheaper. 6063 is also very easy to get, but its more soft and not as strong. 7075 is apparently the strongest but is hard to find, super expensive, and very much likely not in the shape you would want it to be in.
