Trying to pick an Army MOS that sees combat? How about does NOT see combat? Well, this video should help you understand a little bit about how likely your MOS is to see or not see combat.

Reminds me of what my PSG told me when he was in Iraq back in 05. They had two soldiers (support MOS, they didn’t go out on missions with the rest of them so they didn’t see any combat) stay in a watch tower. They took contact and reported that they were under fire and what they should do, since they weren’t specifically trained to take aggression. The higher ups simply radioed back, “return fire”.

More to the story. I was @Fob Falcon 04-05. 2nd rotation from initial push. ROE shifted from kill everything to hearts and minds and you better be justified or we will fry you. Insurgents road up and down highway shooting at the towers. Finally, Base CO had mass formation stating, you feel in danger, handle your business. After that, we started f#$% them up.

The issue is that the marines pride them selves on being the shittiest branch to be in. That’s not even a joke or taking a shot at them, they essentially take pride in the fact that their Basic Training is the most intense (to a very unnecessary degree), they see the worst combat zones when they deploy ( I imagine this is depends on the person, since I’ve meant marines who have never seen combat and have been in a “combat zone”) and overall have the most toxic people. The kind of people who never got over high school and feel like they have something to prove to everyone around them. Although to be fair, once you get through the trash, you’ll find some extremely effective soldiers. Like legitimately the best there are at what they do, to the point that they basically carry the good name of the marines on their back. But don’t join the Marines if you can’t handle the typical “jock” stereotype person, because while they are all over the military, they seem to sadly gather in the Marine Corps Infantry. Edit: I just reread my comment and realized I said “effective soldiers” and cringed. Yes, I know lol

Ok, sure you’re right....but this isn’t WW2 and a massive scale war that would require more numbers than we have isn’t likely to happen anytime soon. There is less than 1% chance someone who isn’t in a combat MOS will be asked or told to pick up a weapon and told to fight... Hell, a lot of infantry units go on “combat” deployments but don’t see one firefight for that 9-12 months. It’s not uncommon for that to happen this day and age. So for all you non combat MOS folks, don’t even think about being in combat, it will do you no good. Just focus on your MOS and worry about being proficient in that. .

The Casualty rate was relatively low compared to say, 11B/19D, But high for 31B...it's all relative to how many troops are in a given MOS and what their actual Missions were. Kicking in doors , patrolling dismounted in Baghdad, getting shot at, having people you know get killed and wounded, I experienced all of it. From Invasion to 9 months later, just one long slog of unpleasantness....But that's what I was trained for.

Pick an MOS that translates well for the outside world for example signal opens alot more opportunities then infantry in the civilian world.

You didn’t talk about 19D (CAV scouts), but for all you thinking about enlisting as CAV scouts, yes that is a direct/indirect combat MOS. I know CAV scouts who were at one point kicking down doors in Iraq and doing similar missions as infantry guys. Cav scouts and infantry both hate to say it but scouts are very similar to infantry, they just focus primarily on reconnaissance, but combat is definitely something to think about when deciding if you want to be a scout.

An easier way to view the military is use the term "branches" in a more literal way, the army for instance. Instead of just a branch, think of it as a tree, a tree has dozens of roots that ultimately serve to bolster and feed the tree. Each root has it's own responsibility when it comes to holding up the tree and nourishing it. :)

It's normal but I'm sure some privates go over the top... Kinda annoys me. Also, Cav Scouts have a motto, "If you ain't Cav you ain't sh*t". So, it goes both ways. Just remind him to not let it get to him. Infantry always has a big head. It's drilled into them during training.

So in your re-enlistment contract, you would basically pick a top few duty stations you want, however none of them are guaranteed as it's a "needs of the Army" kind of decision. I would bank on probably not getting your top pick but like 50/50 for getting top 3. Basically just don't hold all your reasons for going active at a particular duty station.

I was 38A Civil Affairs in Iraq. One minute you’re handing out blankets and around the corner you’re breaking down doors. It all depends on the situation. Sometimes you’re the first unit of contact, which means you lead the fight even before, during and after 11Bs arrive.

I'm an 88M and I was in Distribution Platoon in an FSC and most of my platoon got CABs as the Taliban was shooting rockets at us every few days. So it all just depends on where you get placed in the fight. I will say it isn't as scary as you would think and I wouldn't trade those months for the world.

Sure to give me two completely different experiences. ADA looks very interesting and fun but I also wanna help those struggling with faith because I know how powerful and motivational faith can be. I'm meeting with my recruiter tomorrow to drop off some of my information and I think I'll have to ask more in depth questions. At this point in my life I dont think i can afford settling for any mos.

How to get in? Be in GREAT physical shape, able to retain information you learn, decent shot, finish basic training in a combat MOS that isn’t 19D (or a support MOS), complete ranger school and hope you get placed in the 75th. What they do? Your typical special forces bang bang missions you kids see in the movies and video games. What the movies don’t show is that rangers actually specialize in training other countries militaries. That’s what most rangers do, training other people.

@mr.k.i.s.s7496
@mr.k.i.s.s7496 4 жыл бұрын
Tracked Vehicle Repairers do everything Wheeled Vehicle Mechanics do. They may be specifically trained to repair tracked vehicles, but just like any Field MOS, they may be asked to work on wheeled vehicles if there is a shortage of such. Keep that in the back of your head..you will hear that again. Hours depends on whether you are forward deployed or in some kind of facility doing Depot Level Maintenance. There are Tracks Overseas. If a Unit goes to Kuwait without Vehicles, it's because there are Pre-Deployed vehicles there.....you will work long hours getting them ready. BTW, I'm not a Tracked Vehicle Repaired, but everything I have written, I have seen with my own eyeballs. Good luck and I hope this helps you.

In Iraq there were Culinary Specialists that were killed in combat due to an ambush. Same with supply personnel. There's a mountain in Phoenix named after the one woman that was killed. At the end of the day anyone could see combat. It's just the combat arms positions have a higher chance of doing so. But then again, I know some guys that did 8 years as 11b and they never saw combat. To each their own. My advice would be to pick something that translates to the outside world, especially if it involves computers; Army cyber would be a good transition for some folks

Got deployed for OIF 07-08 and our original mission and MTOE was scrubbed as the facility we were going to support was not even built yet. Ended up doing just about anything they could throw at us. First 2 squads in the platoon were MPs. 3rd Squad was a support element of supply, admin and cooks. So for a lot of our gun trucks the gunners or driver were a mix of that supporting squad. So I had a 50 gunner that was a 42A.

@TruckingWithMike
@TruckingWithMike Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t matter honestly. 88M (Truck Driver) & 92F (Fuelers) both work hand & hand. You’ll literally be with them 99% of your career. More than likely when you come under fire if you’re a 88M or 92F it’ll be on Convoys delivering supplies such as Food, Water, Ammo, and Fuel. You’ll do a lot of Convoy Security too. It won’t be much dismounted action like the 11B’s go through. Nevertheless, combat is combat. If you experience it, you’ll experience it.
