Got any other tips? Or any idea how the "just add water" heating mechanism works? If you want to trade, tuna and barbecue sauce basically tastes like pulled pork but slightly bad, and tortillas with peanut butter are a fucking godsend. And on top of that, if you take out all of the "chocolate" M&Ms in trail mix, put them in a bag, and put it out in the hot summer sun after crushing the M&Ms, you got yourself a really scuffed chocolate bar. Assuming you had trail mix with M&Ms, of course

Those Russian bricks are good stuff. No, not good as in delicious or pleasant to eat. They're absolutely HORRIBLE to eat and you'll hate them. But for actual emergencies and survival situations they're perfectly engineered. They and similar products from other countries are the densest and lightest self-stable form of calories and nutrients you can have. If you could only bring a limited amount of weight or volume with you somewhere for emergency supplies, those are the best for both. It's really unhealthy to eat them for weeks or months, but they'll keep you ALIVE longer than anything else their weight or size. You can survive without starving with about 220 grams per day if you have a source of water. You'll be hungry as hell but alive.

Agreed with the other person , they tried an emergency ration which is meant to keep you alive , not keep you in fighting condition , just enough so you can stop the process of dying from starvation - as written on the packet , pretty sure the USA has them as well and many other countries do ,too. Russian MREs are pretty good to be completely fair , their canned meat recipes are real meat and of quality IMHO. This video is a mixed bag of feelings for me , too much playing around with the food and too little eating. Well these bars are made as a last line of defence to prevent a frozen tovarish... What they ate clearly wasn't the real MRE, which is a shame because they *must* try a real Russian MRE, it would be fun to watch them figuring out to eat this pashtet with crackers!

That Russian ration bar at the end is a marine emergency ration. You can also get them in English, made in the USA. Search for "Datrex white ration DX2400F." The translation is more than a little mangled, but the gist is that it's an ultra-compact, ultra-stable brick of calories. They provide essentially no nutritional value, only calories. Hence the warning (?) of "accept food at strong feeling of famine." The intent is that you're supposed to save those for when you've run out of everything else, because without useful vitamins and minerals like C, B12, iron, you'll start feeling pretty terrible pretty quick. But you need calories to move, so better to suffer through half a dozen vitamin deficiencies than starve to death. Also, fairly obvious plug, but Steve1989MREInfo does taste tests and reviews of all sorts of rations, including a bunch of international ones. The French, Italian, and Czech ones were very well received, the Chinese rations were pretty damn terrible.

So Binging with Babish and SteveMRE...when? Has someone told them the other, non-US MREs weren't the complete thing when the United States one was? Also, the US Pepperoni pizza is widely regarded as the best of the bunch. The british cold weather rations are also pretty good but they are a whole days meal, not just one single meal.

you guys should try the french rations there the best so good they where a bit of currency in yugoslavia you could use a french ration to buy 3 american ration or 5 spanish ones also if you get french rations from the 50s they should have either half a liter of wine or liter of beer or a quarter of liter of eau de vie (booze) and a pack of cigarette (gauloise caporal)

I really do hope this becomes a series. Probably a summary, truncated series, because numerous channels have made months of content out of the range of MREs available, and keep going - but I'm really curious to figure out what Brian thinks has a TWISTY flavor and what doesn't. (For budget: Lithuanian, at least before 2020. Cheap and not bad at all, though Jason may shy away from certain bits.) I'd love to see some Japanese and 24-hour Russian packs too (go for the шпик - unheated if you dare!).
