I have both. I bought the mavic mini as a graduation present for myself and loved using it for learning how to fly a bigger drone than the Tello. I use the drone for family stuff and also use it to scout out areas before hiking to see if wild life is around. I then picked up the Mavic Air 2 for more videography for car videos and other adventures that I want to get better footage for and better camera pics.

I started with the Mini Fly More kit and absolutely love and I'm learning a lot with it. I also purchased the PowerVision PowerEgg X Wizard Kit, Mini seems too have a better camera and all around performs better in my opinion. The Flying Egg is fun and it has been a heck of learning curve about drones in general, the all weather feature appealed to me and that was the reason for that purchase.

Really appreciate your videos. I just ordered an Air 2, my first drone to use for photography. I had a hard time deciding between the two, but ultimately chose the Air 2 due to the better camera. Your video’s were extremely helpful. I have a landscape/nature photography background so camera quality was key. I did seriously consider the Mini though because of how easy everyone says it is to fly. Can’t wait to try it out. Hope I don’t crash it...

Just bought the Mini fly more bundle(first drone) and I love it. I've been researching drones for two years before I bought mine. My plan is to become familiar with flying a drone with the Mini and if later I decide I need a a better camera and ability to fly further distan es (Occusync) confidently then I will upgrade to the Mavic Air 2 or Pro

I'm getting closer and closer to pulling the trigger and buying one myself. Think I'm leaning towards the mini, because I'm just getting into it, and don't even know if I'll like droning, or use it that often. Most of all, will I even be good at it? lol $400 is a good price-point to figure that stuff out.

@@TheDailyWorkingDad Just do it bud. I got into photography in the 80's with a Minolta XG-1 35mm and went crazy with that. Have hundreds of negatives in a file folder. So much fun then and........now you can do it with a drone. Way more satisfying and way better quality. Watch as many vid tutorials as you can tolerate LOL. But drones are soooo much fun and you can even make money with them. Be safe my friend ✌

I have been researching drones for quite a while now, and thought I wanted my first one to be the Mavic Air 2 or a used Mavic Pro, but you made a good argument for trying the Mavic Mini first. So, I just went out and bought the Mavic Mini fly more combo. Hopefully it will be the right one for me to learn on, and if I use it as much as I want to, then I will upgrade later. Thanks for all the good info in your videos.

As always, excellent reviews and comments. I enjoyed how you asked the question FIRST in the video and then the follow-up question that people would ask you. You nailed it by cutting the chase and asking future pilots want you are going to use the drone for, and what's your budget, these are the two biggest questions.

I got my first drone 3 weeks ago. I choose the Mavic air 2. I was going for the mini but I changed my mind when I watched comparison vids on YT. My reasoning is, "why settle for less ?". It is indeed twice the price with the fly more combo and the Dji care refresh but we get more than twice the features with the Air 2. I've just rendered my first "clip" ever using it. I'm very happy with the result.

I started off with the Mini and then bought the MA2. I do a lot of MTB racing and so I'm out training a lot. I can take the Mini in a cycling jersey back pocket and not know it's there. I take the phone with me anyway, so it's only the controller in addition. I use the timed shots a lot. It's great to get those shots that you couldn't get normally (I usually ride/train alone) and it's easy to fly without the sticks to save messing around with that. It's also good to see where unknown trails go without having to peddle to the end of dead ends! The MA2 needs a backpack, mostly due to the controller, but I really appreciate the "follow me" functionality and although not perfect, works really well. In fact the randomness of "parallel" has lead to some great reveal shots of landscape that I have taken credit for, that was nothing to do with me 😉. I tend to take the MA2 in the backpack when I'm going out on an easy ride and want to make a film, I'll take the mini anyway for opportunist shots and video, maybe B roll for another project. I tend to shoot in 2.7k on both, to keep some consistency in both outputs for future use. I have GoPro Session on the bike (front and rear on K-Edge mounts) and these shoot very much on the blue end of the spectrum (only 1080p on the Session), so there's always work in post to try to marry these up to the drone footage for split screen etc. I'm very much still learning, but enjoying the journey with both drones and it's added another dimension to my outings, apart from sweating.....🤪

I got them both. LOVED the Mavic Mini, straight out of the box (Even bought 3 extra batteries...for a total of, 6) I love that it packs small and plays Big! So far, I have only used the Mavic Air 2, about 4 times and am not feeling the same way. I like the signal strength but not crazy about the video quality, settings, and the remote controller. And it also feels heavy in my hands. The batteries drain faster than a Wino's jug on payday. Maybe time will tell.

I personally love the controller on ma2. Seems solid and not as cheap as the mm controller. Video is waaay better on the ma2 and I get around 26-28 mins. Mini doesn't come anywhere near that.

By far, the best video I've seen that helps me make my decision. I have no experience with these, and I just want to take it along on cross-country motorcycle rides, and capture images of where I am, or have been. I think the Mini is perfect for that. Then if/when I get comfortable with it and want to expand my horizons I'll get the Air 2, or whatever is on the market at that time. Thanks for the helpful video!

I bought both, first the Mini, then the Air 2. The Mini was bought for its light weight, small size, price, and to learn how to fly a drone. It will be used primarily for backpacking and fly fishing. Bought the Air 2 after I got proficient with the Mini. I liked it for its more advanced capabilities, my operational familiarity with the Mini, and when weight and size aren't necessarily a concern. Will use it primarily for things like traveling by vehicle in the western backcountry and capturing landscape scenery or fly fishing action when I don't have to park far from a stream. The drone video will be mixed with my action camera video (PowerDirector 17) to create/upload videos to my KZfaq channel. Each has its purpose and I'm sure I'll find other uses as well. Satisfied with both so far.

I like to buy quality long term investments and I’m definitely paranoid about fly always with such a small package but $800-$1000 just isn’t in the budget right now. Rando63 Hey bud , you mentioned the air 2 is your first drone , have you had any previous drone experience before? (Of any nature ) or did you simply jump straight into buying the air 2? In your opinion is it worth considering for other people with absolutely ZERO flying/ drone experience?? I got the MA2 first. loved it. It was my first drone, and it's amazing. Stable, steady, reliable, great photos and videos across the board. I was unexpectedly given a Mavic Mini in June as a gift, because I'd mentioned I'd love to have both offhand. And I *do* love having both. The Mini is zippy, just plain fun to fly. Pics and video are good enough for sharing with friends, posting to social media, etc. But it is definitely less sedate and stately compared to the MA2! I love the ease and the feeling of wheeling around with the Mini, and for the higher wind days, longer range, the predictability, and better resolution pics MA2. I love to send the MA2 out in an area I don't know yet, and the Mini for places I know and just want to fly quickly. I know I am super lucky to have both.

I have the mavic mini, purely budget reasons. It's a great fun wee drone to fly, although only jpeg I've had some decent images from it. Still getting to grips with the video functions. It's extremely easy to fly and control. My one and only gripe, it really doesn't handle wind that well. I live on the coast, its always windy. 😂 That gripe aside, for someone new to drones or not a heavy user of drones, I'd say buy the Mavic Mini

Started with the Mini, it's a great drone; no registration required. Had a few stressful flights involving wind and loss of signal. With the MA2 those issues are not a problem. I can charge the batteries in the Mini with just a usb cord, reducing baggage; that's why I am keeping it. Being a picture taker and not a photographer, I shoot video @ 2.7k with both. My Mavic Mini is now somewhere in the river, I guess it hit the waterfall before going under. I would be more crushed if I had a more expensive drone that had the same fate. Although the cheap of the Mini makes the hurt less from losing it, it’s still money lost. But the crash has given me a valuable lesson and now I know what to do in the future. Super fun without the hassles of start up time and ease of use sending up decent pix/vid immediately- the controller is your phone. Fly close to people/pets without usual risks. Damn tough, good bang 4 the buck. DJI Product.

Very much appreciated this video. You bring up many trade offs and consideration that are in my mind while trying to decide. You didn't talk about obstacle avoidance. It seems many lower end novices struggle with crashing and losing their drones. I am retired and thinking it might be worth learning a new skill to create extra cash. Am I crazy for thinking it might be worth the extra bucks to develop a marketable skill here? Is it worth the extra cash to get the high end controller and why?

I've had my Mavic Mini for almost a year now and it's a fantastic drone and it's been thoroughly tested for distance and wind and very cold weather (Canada is kinduv known for that). I've watched and learned the skills by watching (and subscribing) to many drone channels and because of this my skills are great. So first drone? I would probably say the Mini. It's alot of drone for the money and it takes fantastic footage. Super easy to fly and it just works great AND you don't need to register it. For me tho? Definately getting an Air 2 soon. Better footage, safer (obstacle avoidance) and........well I just want one

Fellow Canadian here, I am thinking of getting the Mini to shoot Real estate/houses and also for the fact that I won't have to register it. I know it shoots 2.7k and 1080P, but based on your experience thus far: 1-Is the footage that comes out of it good enough (quality wise) for the purpose of real estate shoots? 2- As far as obstacle avoidance feature that this drone lacks, could you tell me about your experience so far. Has there been any instances where the lack of obstacle avoidance feature cause issues, and what happened to the drone (when it for example hit a tree branch etc)? Thanks very much for sharing your experience!!!

@@rezaking Well I would say ya it is great footage with 2.7. I've honed my skills pretty fine now with some practice and even today I shot some at work just today that just blew everyone's mind how clear and smooth it was. Don't doubt this little gem. It's so much fun to fly and with practice you will be amazed. Have fun (I love it) and best of luck to your future ventures my friend.

Never heard of a 107 pilot (youtube excluded) using a mini for work. It's a good drone but most companies want 4k these days. If you are just posting to youtube its good enough but imho you need a better drone for commercial use., plus for peace of mind I prefer a drone with ocusync 2 rather than wifi.

My first Drone was a Mavic 2 zoom and absolutley love it. My wife, yes my wife, got me a mini for xmas last year and its def getting more fly time as it is so easy and quick to launch and so portable. The only drawback for me is the weak and intermittent signal with the mini and this vudeo perfectly exp, ained "Why"! I hope the Air 2 is portable enough as I am thinking of giving my mini to my 93 year old father who's phantom 3 just fell out of the sky today and picking up an A2! Is it small enough to carry around like a mini? Need help!

Good format. I am an adventure motorcycle rider and hiker. I travel the world - often on my motorcycle. Came back before the virus from a 6 month ride from Miami to Thailand. I am also a professional photographer. So, I would love great photography shots -- but I plan on getting into vlogging my rides. I plan on going from Miami to South Africa next. Weight and size mean everything on a motorcycle -- so I bought the mini and will give up on some other stuff... My camera gear is great but I even minimize on that which probably makes me a better photographer anyway. So, I know I am losing out -- but the weight and size savings are epic for me. Now to learn to use the crazy thing:).

Just upgraded from Mini to Air 2, main reason was no ''follow me'' mode in Mavic Mini and also on my first trip to the seaside a few weeks ago Mini felt very fragile in stronger winds above the sea, I was really scared to lose it, also CE version of Mini loses the signal in build up areas after a couple of hundred meters, so I hope Air 2 will be better

So many have been bashing the mini that it doesn’t have 4K & no raw capability; there’s videos out there that look so pro & so cinematic as the maneuvers were steady, ND filters were used & good color grading, you just gotta make the best with what you have & i have been practicing almost everyday & everyone tells me my videos look pro; however there are issues with the signal when filming near buildings & i don’t wanna have to move to that area, the signal & active track are why i’d wanna upgrade to the MA2 but trust me the mini is a cinematic beast

I am thinking about moving to the mavic mini. I have a lot of skill from manual drones without auto launch, gps exc. these skills definitely made me good at flying drones and helicopters. I’m sure it’s easy enough, I have watched video after video about it, and after about around 100 videos, I believe the mavic mini may be the best option of all the drones that DJI provides. And I think many people should get it, because it is the best bang for your buck.

I've never flown any drone but the Mini (and a toy drone that I bought just to practice while I waited for the mini), but after having it since November, there is one big thing you didn't mention. The Mini is a quick thing to set up and get in the air, and is great for closer stuff. But it really is limited by the wind. It's incredibly easy to get blow aways. So there are times where a beefier drone could go up and get shots, but the Mini either shouldn't go....or you white knuckle the controller. I've had two bad crashes to date, and the Mini is so light that it doesn't really take a ton of damage, but it's something to factor in. I bought this because it was Uber portable and I was going to take it to Iceland (COVID scotched that) but now I'm nervous about it. Iceland is a windy place.

So, would you have rather go for the Air 2 instead if you had the chance to decide again considering that situation? I experienced the same with my spark, and I thought the only way to overcome this, is with a more solid and heavier drone. It is also frustrating when you realise that the best shots are regularly in environments where the wind is usually a recurrent factor.

Guys I own then all lol. I'm an addict not rich trust me lol anyway the Mavic air2 is the drone of the year. It's better then my Mavic 2 zoom and almost as good as the Mavic 2 Pro and at half the price.. WOWSERS.. the downlink from the Mavic air 2 is AMAZING and it can handle pretty high winds. Just as good as the bigger Mavic 2s. So in short... You can not go wrong with the Mavic air2 and it's much more affordable.. also can be used for jobs as well.. Amazing drone. Best in class and best in the year. Hands down. 💙💙💙 hope that helps a little.. I fly in the city of PHILADELPHIA.. a concrete jungle. Check it my videos of birth then drones. You will be amazed.. @@danielmadrid818 That's a good question. The portability, price, and ability to dodge the licensing issue were all huge factors. I had never flown a drone before, and wasn't sure I was even going to like it. I only bought the thing because every time I looked at travel vids there was drone stuff, and my phone and point-and-shoot suddenly seemed inadequate. I'm not a drone enthusiast. (though I now watch Aldryn's and DroneXFactor vids whenever they show up) I ended up getting the license anyway. But if you can't fly your flying camera when you sense a great shot because there's a breeze, what's the point? I've learned how to fly the Mini pretty well now. I don't regret buying it. But if I knew then what I know now, I'd buy the Air2 instead, yes.
